detailing what's unfair about recent champs (1 Viewer)

The NFL is NOT about being fair. This is NORMAL. Get USED to it. There's no point to whine about it. Some recent examples:

1. When the Broncos won two titles in 1997 and 1998, everyone was whining that the Broncos OL used dirty chap shot tactics with cut blocking:

http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:v8bff...us&ct=clnk&cd=6

2. The Broncos were fined for using a slippery substance on their jerseys. And at the bottom you got Neil Smith discussing how everyone cheats like this.

http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:ZOz85...us&ct=clnk&cd=1

3. The Ravens Tony Siragusa knocks Raiders QB Rich Gannon out of the game in the second quarter of the 2000 AFC title game. Many felt it was a cheap shot - the Ravens felt they could never beat the Raiders without taking Gannon out. The NFL brought down a $10,000 fine on Siragusa for a late-hit, but other than that, no-one cares. Moral of the story: a $10,000 fine is worth winning the super bowl, so take out the opposing QB if you gotta.

4. The tuck rule game. Enough said?

5. The 2001 Patriots take cheap shots to the next level to steal their first title. The NFL doesn't care, and the Rams just whined the entire game instead of doing what they should have done and start retaliating. Too bad, they lost.

6. And now we come to Super Bowl XL. Cowher takes full advantage of a host of horrible ref calls that go his way. Was it nearly as bad as some of the other stuff that has gone on above? No. But in the end, to be the champ, you usually have to bend or break the rules and take cheap shots. That's the way the NFL always has been. Get used to it. There's no whining about it here.

For those Steeler fans here who now feel slighted, don't. This is normal.

I'm not complaining about this stuff, just pointing it out. This is a dirty league and I'm saying to stop whining. I'm on your side here.

Let him rant--thinking people actually care about this garbage is therapeutic. I mean, seriously, the guy's whole reason for living disappeared when Cowher won a Super Bowl. Notice how it wasn't the Steelers who took advantage of the purported bad calls, but Cowher? If he dosn't get a chance to blow off his steam, who knows what will happen? (although the mods may want to think about moving him to the padded walls of the FFA)

Man, you're not on my side. You're calling *my* league a dirty league. Have you ever coached a sports team? Ever been a ref? Watch college basketball? College football? You seriously think there weren't bad calls back in '70s? '60s? '30s? It's a freaking sport regulated by human freaking beings. It always has been, and hopefully it always will be.

I'm not going to address anything else you say, but saying the NFL is "dirty" or "unfair" is just ridiculous.

BGP = comedy goldAnd for the record, Steeler fans don't feel slighted. We feel elated. (Unless you're in your 60s, you may not be familiar with this state of mind as the Browns haven't won anything in quite some time - pre-Super Bowl championships do count  - so don't have a conniption on that issue).

The :ptts: activity is just making it sweeter. You're kidding yourself if you think complaining about calls in the game is reducing my enjoyment one little bit. It's actually increasing my satisfaction (if that's actually possible), particularly when its a Browns fan that's doing it (apparently at the loss of whatever mental faculties he had).

Why do Steeler fans continue to fall for this stuff? :lmao:
Fall for it? Hmmm, I suppose BGP could be fishing. But based on past history I think he's serious. And that, to me, is absolutely fantastic.

It doesn't matter if he is serious or not, some fools keep falling for the crap he spews.

Well if he's serious, how is that falling for it?

Honestly, BGP having a nervous breakdown on an internet message board makes for compelling theater.

I do agree with that! ;)

Every team gets bad calls for them and against them. How a team handles the adversity of a bad call or what they do with the opportunity of one that went there way will usually determine the character and success of that team.

As always, spot on

Biggest problem with those Broncos teams is that, after the fact, they were found to have cheated the salary cap.

I question if BGP is actually a Browns fan, to tell you the truth. With the complete negativity that he always spews on "his" team, as well as another crap thread like this, I'm almost convinced.

The only thing that is unfair about recent Championship teams is the negative twist that all those who are bitter try and portray about their amazing accomplishment.

The Tuck Rule might be a stupid rule, but the correct call was made in that NE/Oak game, so I don't see how them winning because of it was unfair.

The Ravens would have beaten the Raiders even if Gannon had stayed in the game in '00. The Raiders were going NOWHERE with the ball when Gannon was in the game.

The Patriots did get away with a lot of illegal contact in Super Bowl XXXVI. There is no denying that.

Based on his recent postings, I think we can now safely reveal what his initials have stood for all these years:Beautiful Game, Pittsburgh

All this time, he has been using his commentary to motivate his beloved Steelers.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Dude, in all seriousness.....

#1 - In what way did Cowher bend or break the rules? Are you insinuating that he paid off the refs? Otherwise I am not sure how he bent or broke the rules.

#2 - He TOOK FULL ADVANTAGE of horrible calls? What does that even mean ?!?! Is he supposed to look at a call and say... "You know, that was a judgment call, maybe a little ticky-tack. Guys, just let Seattle score on the next play, I don't feel good about that call." Or, "Guys, I think we may have gotten the benefit of a questionable call - just take 3 knees and punt this one back to them."

Your :fishing: has reached the point of ultimate hilarity. You cannot possibly believe this crap you're peddling, but thank you SO much for providing such entertainment. I look forward to your posts so much, and that is the honest to God truth.

The Tuck rule controversy is a given but how come you don't have a link to support your fictional "don't know a thing about football but shoot your mouth off anyway" account of the 2001 Super Bowl?Really, if the 2001 SB was anything like you are absurdly fabricating it out to be then shouldn't there be someone with an ounce of credibility (in other words sum1 other than u) who felt the same way and wrote about it?

IMO the Steelers did benefit from some terrible officiating but Cowher didn't bend or break any rules

Biggest problem with those Broncos teams is that, after the fact, they were found to have cheated the salary cap.
Agreed. It doesn't really bother me so much that the Broncos did it; what bothers me more is that the NFL barely slapped them on the wrist for it. And I'm guessing that has to do with the fact that it was superstar John Elway's contract that violated the cap, if I recall correctly.
