***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (1 Viewer)

Miggy, despite the home runs, hasnt looked totally Miggy. I really hope this bad back isnt a lingering issue. If so, maybe a stint on the DL is in order.

Bullpen looked much better today. Big series win against the Indians after last year's disaster.
The Backend of the bullpen has not really been the issue.  It is the rest of the bullpen that looks like they are pitching batting practice or giving up free walks.  We can live with the Wilson's and K-Rod, but every other arm should be on the cutting block.

The starting rotation is so much better this year.  We are getting quality starts from everyone.  Zimmerman may be the shakiest of the starters and my biggest concern.  But if that is the biggest issue, that is a good thing.

Really liking what I have seen so far with only a few holes in the pen to address.

Miggy is not one to go on the DL unless totally necessary.  Hopefully he will be OK and let Victor get in a few games at 1B and Miggy DH.

Being a DH for a few games could let him try and stay loose in the clubhouse instead of standing in the field for 9 innings.

Just comparing stats thru the first four games of six 'scrub' players versus the six stars of the team.

Iggy/Collins/Avila/Romine/JaCoby/McCann

AB=158, Runs = 25, H = 44, 2B = 11, HR = 10, RBI = 25, Ave = .278

Upton/Ian/Nick/Miggy/VMart/JD (Inj)

AB = 201, Runs = 28, H = 44, 2B = 8, HR =8, RBI = 27, Ave = .219

The bottom of the order has been stellar while the top, especially Miggy and VMart, could be doing a lot better.

Pretty much typical for the Tigers to have a closer who makes every save a huge adventure but somehow is still effective.   Todd Jones is like the model closer.
As long as the 2 Wilsons are the ones in before him it actually works out mostly. Problem is you can't work all 3 guys every day. Jiminez may eventually be someone else they can use in the 7th-8th.

And not that the little skipper has actually thought it out this much, but with what he has to work with his relief rotation actually fits in with the more modern thinking on closers, and whether they really need to be the best guy in the pen.

It is tough when the first 4 and best hitters in the lineup are averaging in the low 200s.
And yet somehow in first place.  Absolutely horrendous relief pitching from most of the bullpen and limited production out of our best hitters.  This team has been fortunate in many ways to be winning.  Some great performances by the starting rotation, good production from the bottom of the order, and good relief pitching by the Wilson's.  Mixed bag, but mostly positive because the studs will eventually hit and relief pitching can be fixed.

I'm starting to worry about Vmart. He's looked terrible so far while striking out far more than usual. And since he can't run at all pretty much going to homer or single if he does make contact.

The Ray for Greene trade is not looking so good now.

Not too worried about VMART.  Is hard contact rate is 50% which is very good and he's some bad luck.  Only thing off in his profile is that he is swinging and missing on balls outside the strike zone more often, but otherwise everything else is fine.  He is making an effort to go the other way more, not sure if that is playing into it.

On Ray, I have been saying since the Fister trade that he was the better player.  Last year every time someone #####ed about Fister I pointed to what Ray was doing in Arizona.  He's not an ace because he's too wild, but he's a middle of the rotation arm with high Ks.  Fister meanwhile is a free agent.  So the scouts had it right on Ray, but I think they dealt him in part because of the negativity associated with him with fans and media.  I'm not giving up on Greene though, there is still a lot of potential there.

Ray has added 3-4 MPH on his fastball since his time in Detroit and has a wicked curve and had 10K in 7 innings last outing. If he could get his walks down he has possible front end potential as he is only 26.

His fastball average with Tigers was 91.3, his average fastball this year is 93.1.  He throws his slider more now and his change-up less, which is normal since he has had three years to grow that pitch.  He's very good as I predicted.  Just search Robbie in the thread!

I have him in my roto league so been keeping an eye on his starts. Took him in the 19th rd.

I have him in dynasty.  As long as you are balancing his high WHIP he's a good guy to have because of the Ks.  Looking forward to him working deeper into games this year, he has a lot of short outings.

My first year doing Roto after years of H2H.  There is a learning curve.  Right now I am in 6th out of 14teams.  That is with Joey Bats and V-Mart doing nothing. I am last in SBs.

I like the way he looks throwing the ball, but between the walks and getting bombed when he does throw strikes, I am giving up hope that he will ever be an effective pitcher.  My opinion of him was probably not helped since I was in attendance when he gave up 5 HR's in the first two innings against the Angels two years ago.  Seems like he still gets hit hard during every appearance.

Not feeling a victory tonight, but I hope Zimmerman can pitch effectively.  He seems to be the biggest wild card in the rotation, and if he can get it going that bodes well for things to come.

Terrible first inning so far.   First three base-runners should really be on the defense.  An easy pop-up with miscommunication goes for two bases.  A bunt which goes for a single and a slow hopper which goes for a single, in both cases Nick playing too deep to make a play.

Can we please give Hochevar a contract yesterday? Maybe give Brian Wilson try out too. Is Tim Lincecum out there? What about Brad, didn't he have a pretty good arm?

I mean, I KNOW the wings claim the sellouts. That's the joke Aunt Mertle.

Tampon Bay is something Wilked or da gildz would say. You're better than that, step up a level Blue.
Wings have twice as many titles in your lifetime than the city of Tampon Bay/disneyworld.   I remember all of them, feels good.

From a Tampon Bay fan, this is beyond hilarious.  Two titles ever, probably never see another one in your lifetime.
uhhhh the wings had a hell of a run after waiting 40 years but the Tigers only have 1 in your lifetime, the lions have none and never will and you claim to not care about basketball.

And the Bolts are light years ahead of the Wings now and we have your GM. :ptts:

Good one da gildz

your city is also where movie studios shoot Iraqi overhead scenes and where the aftermath of the comic book villain is shown.

:lmao:

You're such a pud it hurts me on the inside.  I was at the Pistons finals in 1989 and 2004, you never had the chance despite having Shaq.  Oops!

And ONE is better than ZERO, Rays will never win a thing.
