***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (2 Viewers)

Greene just goes about his business and throws strikes. Rarely does the count goes to three balls. Pitching an absolute Gem with only 81 pitches to get through 8.
Curious what he changed from last year, this has been an incredible performance. Here's to him finishing the job...
Nope..... :wall:
Dang ...let's see how this plays out. With Greene pitching so well (and at 81 pitches), do they need to go for an insurance run?

Soria has looked OK so far, so I don't hate the move. Greene has been lights out for two games and with his low pitch count and still having good stuff, it is a hard call. I could look better swinging the bat than what Greene has looked though. He was an absolute zero at the plate.

Soria doesn't have great stuff, but has good stuff. The best thing is he comes in and throws strikes. Nice job Soria on the save.

Why did the pitching starved Yankees trade Greene??

Right now Ausmus should drop Nick to 8th or 9th in the order.

After peaking at his numbers, I was wary they knew something the Tigers didn't. I didn't buy into it and drafted Greene everywhere anyway, but it was in the back of my mind.

Standard caveats, it's early, but after seeing him pitch twice...Brian Cashman is an idiot.

Remember how I felt about Inge? I dislike Castellanos more.
I don't think that is justified. He had a decent rookie season, and it is too early to judge this season.
I don't need justification. I have a big enough sample size to know he lacks plate discipline, expanding the zone consistently. He is horrible with RISP and is a marginal fielder, at best.

The original idea was to split up the lefties evenly vs RHP, which would put him 8th after Avila batting 7th. At least Avila can draw a walk.

It's early but Greene might make up for the awful trade of Fister.
Greene would more than make up for that. Fister will be an expensive FA after this year. Greene is locked up for 5 years.
Returns are still coming in, but this once again shows how trades can take years to play out.
Nah, the Fister trade was terrible, this one possibly being gold doesn't change that trade being bad. Other things that happened probably don't (i.e. Price trade), but if all it took to get Greene were mid level prospects then that could have been done no matter what other deals had been done prior.

Robbie Ray turned into Greene, so the whole line of events had to play out. Inventing other scenarios doesn't change what actually happened.

He made two diving plays a couple days ago which saved three runs. He has a good arm and good hands. Despite his bad start, he should still finish .240 plus, 14-18 HR, 65-70 RBI's. I like him in the 7th spot, as he hits better than Avila. Avila always gives a good at bat, making pitchers work hard. I really like Iggy in the 9th spot as he is like having two leadoff men.

Nick just need some more patience at the plate. The only other option is Romine on a platoon system.

Detroit has no business winning tonight. Perhaps Detroit will have a big night with the bats and maybe get a timely home run. But I would put my money on the Pirates tonight. Hopefully Simon can give us 6 good innings and keep it close.

I always like their all RH lineup against lefties and Simon can at least hit better than Greene.

I will never understand why some pitchers are that pathetic looking at the plate. They have played baseball at every level and had to be somewhat effective batting in their earlier years. I can understand batting .090 or something, but why look like you never swung a bat your entire life? And learn to lay down a bunt.

Yes, the bunting should be Baseball 101 with everyone.

Soria with another nice save. Simon pitched 8 great innings. He has only gone into the 8th 5 times in his whole career.

ETA: It is nice when a starter pitches a great game, the bullpen does not come in a blow it. Soria >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nathan.

What a difference a couple of tight hitting, low scoring games makes:

Games Played: 9 Total Hits: 99 Hits Projected Over 162 Games: 1,782 MLB Record: 1930 Phillies with 1,783

Could not ask for a better start than what the Tigers have had. The Tigers have not only hit well, they hit extremely well with guys in scoring position. The base-running has been aggressive with only a few mistakes. The fielding has been very good. The starting pitching has been great. And the relief pitching has been effective. There is not one aspect of this team that is not looking better than last years team, with the biggest improvement being the bullpen. Of course this is only 9 games, and like last year things can go downhill in a hurry.

I used to love NL baseball..now I don`t enjoy it as much. Too many rally killing innings when the pitcher is coming up. The 8th hitter in NL lineups other than walks is doomed. Will never get a good pitch to hit.

I agree. And it still took them almost 3 hours to finish the game.

It is absurd for MLB to have 2 different sets of rules. It would be like the NFC having 4 downs and the AFC only 3 downs. Then the Pro-Bowl will decide what sets of rules are used in the SuperBowl.

The day off should allow Lobbie Lobstein to skip this start. The 21st he might be needed since JV is being slow to recover.
The hot start is made even better because the team won't feel pressured to rush JV. No days off until May 4th, so a rain out or two at some point would be nice.

We're also on pace to win 144 games.
