So they are interested in Axford? He'll look good in the Old English D protecting a five fun deficit.

I don't see any way the M's deal Walker either. Unless they think Moya is gonna be something other than K machine who doesn't walk.

You still want them to go for it this year? It is time to sell, the bullpen is crap, they have one ace, one above average pitcher and a bunch of junk. I also think the offense turning it on right after Miggy got hurt was fools gold and we have 4 more weeks until he gets back. Get what you can for the guys that are free agents and then reload and sign some guys this off season and contend again next year. This year is basically over for them.

Whatever is best for the franchise is what I want, at this point getting something for Cespedes or Avila seems reasonable. I'd only trade Price if they got an unquestionably terrific return, like what the Cubs got last year for Lester/Shark.

Also good teams like the Royals, Angels, and Yankees don't have an ace. They have some good pitchers, but no ace. Bullpens are hit or miss from year to year, the Orioles have a guy name Chaz Row who has pitched for seven different franchises in the past 8 years. He has a 2.67 ERA and 30ks in 27 innings.

As constituted this team could win this year, but it's pretty hard to win five straight division titles and like many other teams they have areas of need. So do the Blue Jays, Orioles, Red Sox, Rangers, Mariners, etc, etc, etc.

Exactly, that's why we can't just go willy nilly trading him for parts. Plus if he leaves we get a first round pick so he has compensation value already. Because of Cespedes' original contract verbiage, Tigers get nothing if he walks.

I hope they keep him but since they are not even talking the odds are slim on retaining Price. The Verlander deal has to make them a little gun shy to say the least.

I can agree with this, but I think now is the time to sell. Keep Price if you can't get something that will equal the 1st.

If Miggy were healthy then I don't think they're considering this, but with him on the shelf now and likely nowhere near 100% again this year throwing in the towel is probably the right move. It all comes back to the lack of young assets. When weighed against the chances of both making the playoffs and then doing something once there the needle sways more towards the young assets. I had, and still have some, doubts Mr. I gives it his approval, so if the plan is not given a green light I think it's because of him.

Again, at this point in time, dealing Cespedes for chips would probably be prudent. Tigers get nothing for him in the off-season if he walks, and there are going to be a lot of teams willing to enter bidding. The line between success and failure can be narrow. The 5-4 win the other night, with Kinsler's late, second HR, is the type of win the Tigers need. I had hopes they'd pulled off another one with a big inning yesterday as they took an 8-6 lead. Turning the tide and winning those kinds of games gives some hope ...even if they trade away a player or two. But Feliz' collapse had to be disheartening for the team. If the Tigers (and the league) were uncertain as to whether Detroit would become sellers, a loss like that might have solidified it.

True, he is not the perfect player. That said with the way the pitching staff might be next year (and maybe the rest of this year if they deal Price) they can use all the hitting & defense they can get.
