Detroit to go with Felton the FB Rookie as 3rd Running Back? (1 Viewer)

 The Lions sent both Brian Calhoun and Aveion Cason to the injured reserve list today. This leaves only Rookie Kevin Smith and Tatum Bell on the active roster. The Lions released the only other RB on their roster, Artose Pinner, today as well. :jawdrop:

"We look at Felton as our third running back," Marinelli said. "He is a very good inside runner."

I have never been a fan of Tatum Bell here in Detroit. If Kevin Smith were to go down... the Lions' running game will go from mediocre/poor to non-existent.

I would think they have to be looking at a free agent RB to fill this void. If I were to bet, it wouldn't be on Alexander or Rudi...

I think the Lions will sign either a WR or RB who can return kicks. I can't imagine them going into the year with only 2 RBs and only 4 WRs. Furrey is now the kick returner. I don't see that lasting.

I've been impressed with Felton with what little I've seen him. To me, he's their best inside runner and he's actually not that bad catching a ball out of the backfield.

I don't know how many rushing Td's the Lions will get this year......but I wouldn't be surprised if Felton gets some goaline carries. I haven't read where this would be the case, but just watching him he looks like a guy Marinelli may look at down there.

I'm not saying he's fantasy material, but a guy who will vulture prescious points away from Kevin Smith.

What are your thoughts about Rudi possibly coming to town? I'd be up for that......why not, it couldn't hurt if the price is right.

I don't think the Lions will sign any RB who doesn't play special teams unless they cut Bell while doing it.

 63 rushing TDs in college, I'm just sayin...

I heard Rod say the same thing. Any RB they get will have to be a good special teams guy as well.

Marcus Mason could be the guy....
He was the first one I thought of.
Thomas Clayton would also be a good pickup, and dare I say, he's more talented than Mason. Both seem like they'd fine one cut backs, as opposed to say Rudi, Benson or SA.
In my opinion, whoever they pick up, if anyone, will likely be the one with the best return and overall special teams ability. I didn't even think about Clayton. They currently have Furrey scheduled to return kicks and McDonald to return punts. I can't believe they are happy with that arrangement.
