OK, so I keep hearing about how Hester is such a dynamic retun man that Chicago needs get him touches on offense. Makes sense, right? Except I keep thinking about the history of dynamic return men and how previous teams have also gone down this fruitless road (Dante Hall, Deion Sanders, etc.)...so I ask what historical evidence does Chicago have that this has any chance of succeeding? Or are we to believe that Hester is "different" from all the others that have gone before. I'm sure there must be some examples of defensive players or return men that have successfully transitioned to be productive part-time offensive players in the NFL, but unfortunately I can't think of any. So, shark pool, help me out here name one...

dante hall wasnt disgraceful at WR for the chiefs if i remember. You don't think the bears offense could do with any help they can get?

Even though it's never been successful, people will keep trying it. And, you can't stop Deion's 780 career receiving yards.

White Shoes was a decent #2-#3 WR many of the years he was used as such.

Also, Pro Bowl special teams players have only been around for 20 years or so, so this question is completely subjective prior to then. White Shoes is a good answer. Walter Payton led the NFL in kickoff return average in 1975.

Hester isn't just a great return man -- in just 5 games into his 2nd season I will go on record saying he is the best Return man the NFL has really ever seen and it isn't close !

Better than Mel , Desmond , and Daunte ! Better than Green , or anyone else I ever saw.

Bears would be foolish to use him that much on O -- maybe if they really needed a spark but you really want him fresh for returns.

Best punt returner, maybe. Not better than Gale Sayers as a kickoff returner.

Westbrook was a good return man. at WR Peter Warrick , Joey Galloway , Tim Brown , Rocket and Bullet bob hayes.

If Hall had any size to him he would've been a pretty good WR.I agree though, Hester is so good that teams are giving them the ball at the 40 rather than let him try an return one. If they give him the ball in space on reverses, WR screens or flat passes he could put those elusive skills to work.

Tim Brown was a pro bowl kick returner before he became a pro bowl receiver.

Deion Sanders started at WR for the cowboys when Michael Irvin was suspended as well.
