Devin Hester (1 Viewer)

I dont know - I only saw one bears preseason game but I was very NOT impressed with his skills as a WR. I think we have seen a very vanilla playbook in preseason from the Bears and Hester will be all over the field and out of the backfield catching screens and reverses and handoffs. I wouldnt expect a 1000 yard season from him - at least not this year.

I would say 450-600 yards, 4 td's on offense. They will need to use a lot of trickery, screens, etc. to utilize his open field skills. I would say more yardage and td's if Orton wasn't the QB. Orton just can't get the ball down field to exploit Hester's speed. An Orton lead Bears offense is a killer to watch every week....hopefully Hester will add SOME excitement to it.

The problem with that is - and I own Hester - the field isnt very open, even on a WR screen.

This reminds me too much of Dante Hall and his transition. On a kick return you have 40 yards of field to make things happen and guys have momentum coming - on a WR screen you have about 15 yards to work with and defenders dont have so much momentum coming from one direction.

They paid him WR money, so I have to think they'll keep working with him to integrate him into the passing game.

I don't know what to do with Hester. One of my leagues counts PR/KR TDs for our starting position players, and there are bonus points for longer TDs. One of Hester's 80-yard PR TDs is worth twice as much as a 6-yard TD reception.

As a rule of thumb, how much value do you guys place on consistency? In this scoring format, Hester has the potential to be a solid WR2/3, but he's going to score his points in bunches. Other guys will score less, but they'll be much more consistent. When you're playing on a head-to-head basis, how important is it to have a guy that will score points for you every week?

I would have a hard time starting Hester. He's the poster child for feast or famine and there's no other receiving threat to draw the defense away from him. The defense will always know where he is and account for him, which is not good. Playing him is desperation as he may get you 1 for 16 with no TD's or 5 for 128 with a TD or two. Return TD's are a great bonus, but I honestly don't expect him to continue his record setting pace. All told he's tantalizing, but I wouldn't ever feel comfortable starting him. I'm too conservative and I'd rather play a consistent 5 for 45 guy who has a 25% chance of TD every week.

I see them using him all over the field, short screens, reverses, out of the backfield, he is the bigest playmaker and i think they try to get teh ball in his hands all the can. Does this mean success? Probalby not, but i think he puts up overall mid tier wr type numbers..
