Despite 6 consec 300+ yard games with a 500+ thrown in, he is still not on pace to break the record...He has been buoyed by a bunch of bombs recently, and I don't think you can expect that to continue...I'd be very surprised if he eclipsed 5000...But the fact that it is even in the conversation is pretty impressive!
Well see, once the offense figured out how to use Bush and McAllister (took a few weeks), Brees and the passing game went into orbit. When you have an anomaly like a 98-yard scamper from a guy who averages 2.8ypc and never breaks a big one, you can take it out and consider it against the norm. When you're breaking multiple 70+ yard TD passes per game, that's not an anomaly, but a trend.Whereas we'd think that these long bombs are just coincidence and "buoying" his numbers, as you say, his 6 consecutive 300+ yard efforts beg the question of whether this is the norm for this passing attack, and I think it is.I expect his Oct/Nov numbers to continue, not his entire average (which is including september).Because of that, I think there's a real chance he can break the record. There are too many talented players on this Saints team, and having two burners on offense that simply can't be matched up with is a problem. Play-actions keep buying Brees the time to go deep, and they will continue to work as long as he has a dual-backfield of two of the most explosive RBs in the league.
