To listen to the media, or most casual fans, it would seem almost unanimous that Colts QB Peyton Manning is without question, "the best QB in football." While I have no doubt in my mind that Manning is a top 5 all-time, would Tom Brady be considered the clear best QB of this generation had he won the superbowl game against the giants? better yet, would he be considered the greatest of all-time had he won that game?
While Brady currently sits at 3 superbowl victories to Manning's 1, a 4th SB would have put him in the Montana, Bradshaw class. When you take into account that he would have had the perfect season if they won the game, and also that he threw for more TDs than any QB ever in a single season that year, Brady would have been in the discussion as the best player of all-time. Is Brady still a HOFer? without question. Is he still right there with all of the greats of the game? sure..But i can't help but feel like Tom Brady lost more than any other patriot that day in terms of legacy. That was his shot to make the case that he is/was the defining QB of this generation only to watch David Tyree steal the game from him, or have asante samuel have the ball slip through his fingers.
