Did I handle this right as commish? (1 Viewer)

Mike Bell appeared on our site initially as a W player. Two claims were put out on him, myself and another player I've played with for a few years. He had the #2 priority and I had the #12 in a 14 team league. I put my claim out first, but again he had the higher priority.

When the day came, somehow he was placed on my team. It seems the site reacted as if Bell was a FA with a two day waiting period instead of a waiver player, although it did adjust my waiver priority to #14. I'm going on the guy's word that he put a claim out on him and didn't retract it before the deadline because I've played with him for a few years.

What I offered to do, since I know the team with the #1 claim hasn't been online since the draft and couldn't have put a claim in for Bell, is give him the #1 priority, drop Bell, and replace myself where I should have been if I hadn't picked Bell up. I'm letting him make the call. Fair?

totally fair and proper.... he deserves the player and you dont deserve to be penalized for NOT getting the player..... the important issue to solve is why was Bell treated as a free agent instead of a waiver wire player? If the website screwed it up you need to know that and let it be a heads up for the future... If, however , its something in how you have your league set up... you need to fix that asap..... if you hadnt been the other interested party you may just have a situation on your hands.... its always easier to take someones word for it when the other interested party is yourself but another can of worms when its 2 other people....good luck comish !!!

The first thing I question here is-Was he ever on another team? If so, and he was dropped recently, then yes he is a waiver player. If not, he's a free agent, available to the first claimer. Your post is somewhat confusing about this.

Good call. As commish, you need to have the highest standard of honesty possible.

I'm the commish in our league and we had a strange situation a couple years ago where I set my lineup but my #2 QB (we start 2) was different than what I remembered entering. I must have accidentally entered the wrong guy, but the #2 guy had a good game so it looked even more strange. Someone in my league asked about it and I thought it was strange too so I took the guy out who had the big day and replaced him with the guy playing Monday night who I had originally intended to put in.

In summary, eliminate any doubts related to your team if something seems suspicious.

He wasn't ever on another team. When the hysteria started over Bell they decided to add him to the site the day after he was named the starter (since up until that point they only had T. Bell, R. Dayne, and C. Cobbs). I thought they should have released him as a FA, but they decided to put him on waivers. I thought it was odd to put him on there as such because, like if Tatum had been injured during a game, I could have gone in on Monday and claimed Bell as a FA if he was on the wire, but since they had to add him after the fact they decided to give him some special precident.I just want to do the most fair and equitable thing here, so I tried my best to make it fair for all parties.

If that's the case, then you've really got something amiss in the Waiver/FA settings on your site-OR-the other guy is lying.. For you to get him with the #12 waiver pick, then get bumped to #14 tells me that you are the only one to have put a claim in for him. In fairness to all, maybe you should privately e-mail this guy and question his use of the waiver system, just to see if he did in reality put a claim in. Sounds like he didn't to me.
