Dion Lewis - Broken Leg (1 Viewer)

Dr. Octopus

Footballguy
Dion Lewis suffered a fractured fibula in Thursday night's preseason game against the Lions.
Lewis was carted off the field in the second half. He had secured the No. 2 running back job with Montario Hardesty (knee scope) on the shelf, but will now likely miss at least first couple months of the season. It's a tough break for Lewis, who rushed for 55 yards on ten carries through two preseason games. Brandon Jackson is the new favorite to be Trent Richardson's top backup.
It's too bad he was looking good this preseason - and so has the Browns' offense in general.

He may have had some value outside of a Richardson handcuff in a Sproles-lite type role.

Too bad, I really like what this kid was doing. Definitely carving out a role for himself. Looked really sharp this pre season.

Happily, I don't think my leaugemates are scrambling to scoop me on Hardesty.

How's his health these days? Viable? (Will check and report, but until then, if someone knows...)

Hardesty to miss 2-3 reg. season games, per roto.

Guess it'll be a mishmash of Jackson, Og, and a late-arriving Hardesty. Oof.

I think the handcuff play here is no handcuff in leagues of any size.

Hardesty is probably going to be IR'd.

Lewis may too. Depends on severity. Varied timelines of recovery for that type of injury - could be a month, could be 3. Fingers crossed for the short end. If so, still plenty of opportunity to etch a role and be a viable handcuff. Just not a draft day consideration anymore, waiver wire watch only.

Richardson has been dealing with some nagging injury, Lewis has a broken leg and Hardesty is out for another month at least. What do you fellows think about Miguel Maysonet getting some playing time behind TRich? The rookie out of Stony Brook had a laughable stat line last night: 4 rushes for 5 yds, but had some favorable hype going into the draft. Picked up and dropped by the Eagles, picked up on waivers by Cleveland...is there anything there or is it a mirage?

They still have "silent O" on the roster, so I suppose that is an option for Norvell too.

I would bet on a waiver claim off another team before Maysonet, but he has 2 weeks to prove otherwise.

Edwin Baker & Fozzy Whitakker & Chris Ogbonnaya just are not as good as Lewis if all are healthy. Lewis is still not yet 24 years old and has hardly any miles. Lewis will have to challenge either a free agent acquisition or a rookie draft pick to win the starting job. Contrary to common opinion, he is not too small to succeed as an NFL rb.

His big challenge is that none of the front office or coaches who traded for him are still with the Browns. I think I recall reading that Wilbur Montgomery was hired to coach their running backs. Montgomery had a good 5 years coaching the Ravens running game until the team had a 30th ranked performance in 2013.

Maybe a clean slate will help both and Lewis can be used just as the diminutive Ray Rice was before his drop-off.

Barring something crazy, I can't see Lewis getting enough work to be fantasy relevant. Maybe two games he will score well cause he breaks a 30 yard TD.

Lottery ticket that has been on my IR in both dynasty leagues since the preseason when he was looking very promising. Costs nothing to hold and then cut bait later if he's not in their plans.
