Disney Vacation (11 Viewers)

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting discounts on Disneyland Parkhopper tickets--say 3 day ones??

They seem to be the same price across the board at every site I go to.
Undercover Tourist has dsicounts and great service. We are Disney Vacation Club members and go to WDW often (a 3-day trip every year) so we get 10 day park hoppers with no expiration. That way we get a nice discount and since it is paid upfront it feels like the second & third trips are free.

I'll be there in about 6 weeks.

Restuarants booked:

Tutto Italia Ristorante (we've been here before, but not in our last 2 trips) - Love this place. Great Italian food.

Whispering Canyon Café - Never been. Booked it completely based on recommendations in this thread.

San Angel Inn - Been at this one before, we're big fans of Mexican food so this one was a must.

The Crystal Palace - My kids enjoy the character meals so we're doing a breakfast here. Never been.

The Garden Grill - Went here once before and my kids loved it. Character meal and kids enjoy "making their own dessert."

Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall - Never been to this one, but last visit we ate in Cinderella's castle, which was very cool. My daughter is excited for this one.

There were several other restuarants we wanted to try but they were booked already (we've tried Canada steakhouse our last 3 trips, always booked).

We're staying in the Polynesian, which is a 1st for me, but my wife stayed there all the time as a kid. Looking forward to quick monorail transport to MK & Epcot.
Much, MUCH better than Cinderella's castle.

Does anyone know if the prices listed on the web site have the 30-40% discount on them already, or is the price the normal price and then you take the discount. Trying to figure out if we can stay at a Deluxe this time but dont know if the $340 is standard or discounted

"Ah, Perry the Platypus. As usual your timing is completely uncanny. And by uncanny I mean COMPLETELY CANNY!"

Rack rates vary based on the resort and time of the year. Here are the rack rates for 2010.
Thanks GB. Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to do Moderate or Value. Would save us close to $700. I will have to check with the wife to see if it is worth it.

The Deluxe resorts are awesome but I think the Moderates are pretty darn nice too. I've never stayed at a Value but have looked around and they seem cool. The knock on them is the small room size and it can get noisy because a lot of large groups (i.e. school bands) stay there. If you are going to be in the parks all day and you aren't a light sleeper then you can save a lot of money and still be on property by going with a value.

We are booked with Free Dining for September 13-21st at Coronado Springs. We stayed at All Star Sports last year and this is our first time at a moderate. We have 3 meals at 'Ohana booked, it was our favorite last year! We have dinner the first and last nights and breakfast one day in the middle. We are doing lunch at Le Cellier also. We had dinner there last year and liked it. Anyone stayed at Coronado Springs before (after the renovations)?

We stayed value last year for 8 nights and we thought it was fine. We really didn't spend much time in our rooms bc it was a first visit for everyone in our group but myself. I will say that never once did I hear anything at night, the pool was fine and by staying value, 9 days at Disney was less than $1500 for my husband and I on Free Dining. It could have been the time of year though (fall) as it was dead in the parks. We are doing moderate this year for 8 night/9 days again but I plan on spending more time at the resort in the middle of the day.

I've stayed at the Coranado twice. It is a big and spread out but the grounds and lake are beautiful. The rooms aren't huge but bigger than the values. The pool is very nice.I love 'Ohana but with all of the restaurants at WDW I don't think I would do it three times in one stay but that is just my opinion.

Wife is looking at booking for our 10 year anniversary in September. With the free dining plan offer right now, she is looking at the different levels available. I think she is deciding which moderate to stay at and leaning towards one of the Port Orleans venues. Anyone stay at either one?

A friend has stayed at Coronado Springs before. He said his room was a 10 minute walk from the main building and at the end of a long day at the parks, he really didn't want that long walk to the room.

This is what happened when I stayed at the Caribbean Beach. The place was beautiful but we were so far away from everything. AND, because it was so big, it was a struggle to get on a bus that was not packed. We actually took the bus to EPCOT one day and took the monorail because 3 MK busses went by and were too packed for us to get on. We were the last stop so that factored in, but it was a bit ridiculous. I have stayed at value resort before and they are fine for us. No great dining but we dont leave the parks during the day anyway.

So we're heading to Disney next weekend and staying for 4 days at the Animal Kingdom resort. 37 pages is scary. Is there a quick summary of things we NEED to do while there?

It is spread out. Your best bet is to get a map of the resort here, figure out which building you want and then email the resort and let them know your request.

How old are your kids? Do they like thrill rides? Are they frightened of the dark/loud noises?

My daughter is a little over 2. My son is still chillin in my wife's uterus. I'm guessing I'll be doing lots of stalking Minnie, Mickey, and Cinderella around Magic Kingdom, eh?

We may end up cancelling one of the dinners there but we have never done breakfast there and I wanted to try that. I had already booked dinner the first night and I let my husband pick our last night (his birthday) and he said he wanted it again. We will see if he still wants it at the end of the trip but I think he could probably eat there every other day the entire trip and be fine. Any other suggestions for somewhere to go? We are allergic to shellfish and already have Le Cellier (lunch), Whispering Canyon, Park Fare, Tony's Town Square, Boma, Yak & Yetti, Wolf Gang Puck and will eat somewhere on the Boardwalk. We looked at the maps to decide. We requested a room in the Casitas 3 which is the closest to the main building and closest to bus stop 2 (which is actually the 1st stop picked up and dropped off). We will be far away from the main pool but we have no children so we won't be at that pool anyways except maybe once just to see it. We will be at the quiet pool for our buildings. Also, Coronado is the only moderate resort that has queen size beds if you want that over the full size beds in the values and other mods. Also, we drive to Disney so we have our car if we don't really want to walk anywhere.

I think so because we want to take advantage of the dining plan (if it is still offered when we go in December). We have stayed off property before and it was great, but it is convenient to have the buses and the dining plan available to us. Plus the inlaws are coming so I think they want to get the whole experience with my kids.

It really depends on what you like and where you will be. I like the California Grill (Contemporary) quite a bit. Great food and fantastic view of the MK, especially if you can time it during the fireworks (they dim the lights and pipe in the music). It is one of my favorite places to eat in WDW.

By the way, great story about Jedi Training. After my youngest son battled Vader, he was so excited that rather than turn and walk back to the group (which is what he was supposed to do), he ran towards his right straight into the two Storm Troopers who immediately drew their guns on him. The Jedi master dude yelled for him to use the force. My son immediately threw out his hand to use the force and the Storm Troopers went flying. The audience was rolling. I'm not sure whether that is something they do every show, but it was freaking hilarious. Thankfully I got the whole thing on video.
No pics? That sounds great
Force Push
that is sweet. we are heading down in a couple of weeks. last time there I was in the indiana jones show and got to do a death scene duirng the warmup but the pictures we have are horrible.

I just got an email from Disney for the week we would like to go. 30% off values and moderate and 40% of Deluxe and Villas

Save up to 40% on aWalt Disney World hotel stay!Just choose the deal that’s right for you: Save 30 %*at select Disney Value Resorts and select Disney Moderate Resorts. Save 40 %*at select Disney Deluxe Resorts and select Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts. For stays most nights 10/3/10–11/23/10 and 11/28/10–12/24/10.For example, for stays most nights 11/28/10–12/16/10, you can stay in a standard room at a select Disney Value Resort for as little as $58 per night, plus tax!
Now I have to figure out if it is cheaper to take this deal or the free dining plan as I dont think you can do both

Heading for a quick trip there next Wendsday and leaving that Friday. Just going to hit 2 parks. then in Novemeber we are going for 5 days.

We stay off property most of the time...way better value. We have stayed on property and it is great no doubt...but way over priced. We are staying at a Hilton Vacation club suite off International for both trips this year. 2 bedroom..full kitchen, living room, flat screen, whirlpool. And publix accross the street. All for $129 a night. Very clean and 4 star type of resort.

Anyway our son is now tall enough to hit a bunch of rides....he is going to have a ball! Starting at 5 years old it really becomes so much fun!

I must say, I've never understood this line of thinking. If the trip will be a blast for the kid, why refrain from doing it simply because the kid may not remember it down the road?

We took our son for his first disney trip at 2.5 years old.....he loved it...still remembers it....even if he will forget his first trip...it was a joy to watch him laugh and smile all day for 3 straight days.

Exactly. Even if he doesn't have the memories, you do.

My now 5 year old remembers his first 2 trips (2 and 2.5 when we took him the first times) quite well. And its not just for the kid...I remember it...and loved the look on his face.It was as much for me and my wife as it was for him.

Just booked December 15-19. Very excited. I wound up going with the Pop Century since it was a pretty big savings. Wife and I decided to wait til my son (will be 13 months when we go) is older to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

The contemporary was already all booked.

we got 5 day park hopper with the meal plan

ETA: I changed the dates from Dec 8-12 to 15-19

Just got back, stayed at the Kidani Village. Great place, its unreal seeing the animals walking around from your balcony.
There were so many animals right outside our balcony when we were there it was unreal. We sometimes found it hard to head out. AKL is my favorite resort if price wasnt a consideration. I just find it very hard to justify spending so much extra compared to coronado springs.

Parents are footing the bill for a Disney cruise in September for me, my two sisters, and everyone's family (twelve people). We're responsible for airfare and hotel on either side of the cruise. That said, can someone recommend a hotel that offers suites? Budget of $200/night or less that will allow us to book a single night. Doesn't need to be on-property, and my kid is a toddler, so we don't need a petting zoo or space theme or anything. thx.

Just down there last week. I still can't believe how many people don't take advantage of FastPass. We're cruising by these people and they look at us like they are clueless (and hot as hell from standing in line for an hour for a 3 minute ride LOL).

On a fun note, I think I beat my Magic Kingdom Buzz Lightyear score from last time...up to over 693,000 now. I'm sure that's not even close to the best, but I felt pretty good since my first two runs were nowhere near that. I think I had a faulty laser button on one run.

Heading there later this year & caught this recently. Knew about 4 of th 5 and am wondering if anyone has done and can recommend #3:

3… Hollywood Studios: Know how to get the VIP treatment.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a study in movie magic - for example: how forced perspective can make a one-story billboard look like a skyscraper; the way a 30-foot high roll of film in the children’s play area-can make a boy look the size of an ant; or how a stunt driver can make a decimated car look like it’s driving itself. Best of all, you can feel like a VIP here. But there’s a trick to it.

Here’s the scoop: come for the day, play, go back to your hotel and relax like the VIP you are. But before you come to Orlando, make reservations for the Fantasmic dinner package. Why? With the special dinner reservations at chic Brown Derby, Italian Mama Melrose, or buffet Hollywood & Vine, you’ll get a reserved seat in the VIP section at the super cool Fantasmic evening show at no additional cost. Unlike the massive overhead firework displays at Magic Kingdom and Epcot, the evening spectacular here is seated, and the queue for seats for the laser, water, and pyrotechnics show can be massive. But with your advance Fantasmic dinner package reservation, you’ll waltz right up to the special reserved section of seats with its own separate entrance. Hello VIP!

This was recommended to us by a travel agent, but we decided against it since we were not even sure if we would be seeing the show. If you know you want to, it seems like a great idea. Thanks for the link by the way. We are leaving next Saturday!

Since our beaches are closed due to the oil spill, the wife has decided we are going to Disney (family of 3, daughter will be 7 at time of trip). She's looking at a 4 day, 5 night stay in the Contemporary Tower Resort late July/early August. I know it will be hotter than hades but its the only time we have to go.

Has anyone stayed in the Contemporary Tower's lately?

Are the meal plans worth the extra money?

Is the park hopper worth the extra money?

If we don't get the park hopper, will we still be able to get into certain parks early?

Thanks in advance!

5 seemed flawed to me.On our last trip in March, we were there at the rope drop and saw the welcome at the train.

We went straight to Pirates and rode it, then my daughter, wife and father got on the train near Thunder Mountain while me, my son, and my step-mom road Thunder Mountain.

The train went right through Toontown without stopping. When they got to the front they asked to make sure it would stop and were told it usually does not stop on the first 2 trips around because of toontowns late opening. This could have changed or not been the normal routine...but at least on that trip, the train did not stop at toontown.

They still got back there in time to not wait in a long line for the princesses for my daughter.

Meanwhile the rest of us hit the haunted mansion and my son wanted to climb in the swiss family tree house and we got a quick picture with Aladdin with no line.

That whole side of the park by Pirates, Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain was completely dead that morning as most probably were over hitting Space Mountain and Buzz.

I love the Park Hoppers just because we schedule character meals and don't always want to be tied down to one park all day.Especially useful staying on the monorail I would think being able to zip easily to MK or Epcot back and forth if you wanted.

Last trip I did not get to score well as my daughter was controlling the spin of the cart...I don't think we were ever very stationary for that one.First time I have needed a dramamine to ride Buzz.

That sounds like an awesome idea. We saw Fantasmic and the cattle call was a major drag.

Hello VIP!
We've done this on two different occasions. Works great. But I don't think it saved us much time in line or gave us that much better seats. But if you plan on eating there, why not take advantage of it??
