Disney Vacation (2 Viewers)

Is there a phone number for Ohana that you can call and say "I'm looking for reservations the week of XXX between 5 and 8 pm for X people, do you have anything?"

It's tedious to check online day by day.

I dont think so.

This is what I have so far... obviously need to cancel some, but wanted to get things on the schedule and decide later. Looking at scaling down to 1 sit down per day, with maybe an off day if we do the HDDR. We are on the regular dining plan.Sunday Teppan Edo (7p)Monday Teppan Edo (4p) The Plaza (6p)Tuesday Kona Cafe (7p)Wednesday 1900 Park Fare (9a breakfast) Rainforest Cafe DTD (5p) Ohana (9:30p)Thursday Crystal Palace (9:40a breakfast) Crystal Palace (5p) Biergarten (6p)Friday Akershus (5p)Akershus and Crystal Palace (either breakfast or dinner, heard breakfast is better) are the only 'for sure' things on the schedule, everything else can be changed. Gonna keep trying to get an Ohana reservation for an earlier time during the week.Maybe do HDDR Wednesday night and skip dinner on Monday or something like that? Or could do HDDR Sunday night to kick off the week, both days are available.
Any reason why you're doing Teppan Edo on back-to-back days? There are tons of good restaurants at EPCOT to try.

Were not, I just want to go there and hadn't decided on our schedule. So just got a couple reservations with intentions to cancel one. Same with the other conflicting reservations.

I know nothing about time shares, but I just didn't see how it was worth it for us with the upfront coast (15,000 for resales) and then minimum of 800 a year for points. I know some people love it, just not for us.
I was all set to buy, but decided to try renting points first and check out the experience. SOOOOOOO happy I did that. Booking points on short notice is a major pain. We seldom pinpoint our exact dates until about 2 months before. Unless you can commit 7 months in advance, I find it a big waste.

Has anybody done the Disney YES program?

We just booked through it and the cost was $181.53 for a 5day park hopper. My son will also get to take a class at the Magic Kingdom about physics. Pretty sure that's a savings of over 100 bucks a ticket.

Hadn't heard of it but that's a great price. Sooo...who wants to take my 3 yo to Disneyworld?

Just booked first week in September. Here is what the wife planned, but she wanted the FFA to vet her selections. Note that we're going with two little ladies, four and one, so that influenced her decisions quite a bit.

Monday: San Angel Inn at EpcotTuesday: Cinderella's Royal Table at the Magic KingdomWednesday: Ohana at the PolynesianThursday: Akershus Royal Banquet Hall at EpcotFriday: Boatwright Dining Hall at Port Orleans Riverside
Thoughts?TIA.

The Ashkerus is for a little girl right?

If not, ditch it for Le Celier which is also in Epcot. If its for a little girl then bite the bullet I guess. I am not a fan of this place. But they have all the princesses so I get it.

They have another great Cinderella dinner at 1900 Park Fair I think. It's the place in the Grand Floridian.

We did the lunch there and it sucked. My daughter was in her glory though. I think we are skipping it this year though....there are so many other options to see princesses.

They will dig eating in the castle. My 3 yr old still talks about it almost daily.

Actually, my wife swapped out Arkershus for Chef Mickey's breakfast. I guess there isn't a good reason to do two princess dinners. And yep, this trip is all about the little ladies.

I know this has been brought up before but I have to ask again. Has anyone actualy went on a Disney Cruise? I cant square how it can be worth it. I just searched for a cruise out of Florida for sometime this winter, typical 7 day. I'd like to have a balcony with a little room to move around in where we are going to have our daughter with us. So i check out Princess and Royal Car and we are looking at $3K for the three of us. A touch more then I'd like, but now that we have to pay for 3 it makes sense. So then I start to think that between some gift cards and some disney reward points I already have $3K kicking around. So I do a simular search for Disney Cruise lines........ best I could come up with was $8,500! Why in the world woul anyone pay almost tripple. Whats so special about a disney boat? Can someone unpack this for me?

I just got off The Dream on Sunday. That is alot. I know they always have deals closer to the trip to fill the ship. Disney is more expensive. I have done both. I had a much better time with the Disney cruise with kids. Maybe one kid will not be bad. However, the things Disney had going for it.1. They let you bring as much alcohol as you want on the boat with you. 2. You don't pay for the kid zone. They strap a brace on the kid and they are not allowed to leave the area (3/4's of an entire floor. The characters come to the floor for the kids, they cook, paint, dance, etc. Parents are not allowed in unless it is open house. 3. The shows are better.4. Disney has their own private island with a beach right off the ship. A seperate portion just for adults. No locals trying to sell you anything. (I could stay there for 1 week alone) 5. The kid's crew members come and get the kids in the middle of dinner after they eat so the parents can enjoy the rest of the main part of dinner in peace. I have not done the princess, but I heard it was the closest to the Disney cruise.

Nope. That's not for me.

I'm a Travel Agent thus perhaps I can give you some somewhat inside perspective. Disney is a different animal as compared to other cruise lines. Generally you will find a Disney Cruise priced about double what you might pay on a contemporary mass-market line such as Princess, Royal Caribbean or Norwegian, though depending on demand and capacity it is not that unusual to see trips and quads be higher such as you're seeing.Disney is very unique in that they are capacity controlled based on age of any children traveling with you. They only sell as much space as they can accommodate in their children's program for each age group. This can lead to higher fares, especially as an age bracket gets near capacity (not unlike an airline that sells seats and raises prices as they near capacity). Depending on the age of the child, there is even the possibility they might not have any staterooms available for a family traveling with say a 10 year old, but do for one traveling with a 5 year old.Why can Disney charge so much more than others? 1 their brand, which has exceptional loyalty from their customers2 capacity, they only have 4 ships and they generally fill up much quicker than their peers3 a great children's program4 Disney entertainment 5 larger staterooms that are more accommodating to families6 unique dining experience where guests and wait-staff rotate together through each restaurant nightly7 great adults only facilities that give adults peace of mind while they know their children are under great care8 they need to charge more since they do not have a casino onboard which is a major source of revenue for the mass-market cruise lines9 the only line that shoots fireworks off the ship each cruiseAre they worth the price? To many yes, but certainly not for everyone.I'd be happy to help you with any other questions you might have. You can also PM me with your number if you'd like me to give you call.Mike

Just thought I would post a heads up that prices on passes to Disneyland went up last Sunday and are expected to go up for Walt Disney World very soon.

If you are planning on taking a trip to Disney World and haven't bought your tickets you might want to do so soon.

Is it best to book with Disney directly?
Disney often has packages with nice discounts or free dining so they are worth checking so I would start there. After that you can get a quote from a travel agent that specializes in Disney, smallworld vacations is one. AAA also has packages for Disney.

Just saw this response now. I guess everything you say makes sense. I don't mind the premium, but more then 2x is a bit much. At least IMHO.

The bad:

I just paid my Disney card after a large retail therapy session by my wife.

The good:

I'm > $1K in Disney Bucks finally.

I have done the Disney cruise. It was nice but $$$$$

Had a balcony room which added to the cost. There is an adult side of their island which is pretty sweet.

Went the other nIght. Was shocked at how lame Fantasmic was.
Really? That is one of the highlights every time we go. We usually plan our HS day around a night it happens when we don't do the hoppers. Never heard anyone say a bad thing about it.

My 22 year old son went to DL with his girlfriend last week and said it was $125 for a one day pass for DL and California Adventure? Are you kidding me? I may never go there again.

It's definitely expensive for a one-day trip. But a five day pass is 290...so it gets cheaper per day as the trip gets longer.

Changing direction a bit. We are getting ready to buy into a DVC membership. We have 2 young kids and we are both Diz fans (i'm a former cast member).

excited but not sure at the same time. pretty decent investment (not from a money making investment).

If you're ever looking to sell off some points, it seems like you have some low-effort options here. You can certainly drop me a PM anytime you're looking to move them.

will do! looks like the property we are gonna buy has some good banked points that we would not want to loose if we decided to take a year off. Renting out those points is a great win-win for both parties as well. I'd give my FBG brethren first crack at them.

DVC member of 2 small kids since 2006. What concerns, questions you have? This year is the year to buy compared to the other years. They are running a 20 year anniversary discount on points. Don't wait if you are sure you want to do this either. The prices per point keep going up every year.

thanks ATC. not so much questions about the club as a whole, just making sure it is right for us long term. We have a resale in our sights—and we are aware of the few restrictions buying resale—that has more points then we need for a price that is equal to a basic package directly through DVC. its too good to pass up IMO

Cool to talk Disneyland California up in here? I'm working on an Anaheim trip and would love to talk it out here, but I don't want to muck up the thread if the intent is to focus on Walt Disney World in sunny Orlando.

I vote yes because we are in the early planning stages of a 2+ week trip to California that will include 2-3 days at Disneyland.

hot damn! thats some serious retail therapy. what did you buy? A car?
Seriously. That's 100k in retail therapy.
We got $250 to open the account and we bought a house back in March that needed a lot of stuff. That was 95% of it. That being said we had "a talk" a few weeks ago to discuss some of the spending habits of the previous 30 days. Generaly speaking she is good with this stuff and our bill is looking well below normal this month. At least we are going to get something in return for helping out the economy.
