Yea we've done most of the ones we want at the parks (except AK) and so we are turning to resorts now. Of course doing Ohana like 7 times keeps us from trying others.
Going to California Grille for the first time on July 4th.

Kind of a last minute, we are going the week before Thanksgiving, then spending a week on Bradenton Beach over in Tampa. Ended up booking Port Orleans Riverside. Not staying too long - 2 days MK and 1 day at Universal.

Seconded...we like BB mainly for the theming and the splash zones my little guy can dothey have 2, 1 for little tykes and another for a bit older/bigger kids. keeping them separate cuts down on potential rough play. Also, the wave pool at BB is a lot smoother bottom then TL which cuts down on knee scrapes and stuff---the waves can get a bit crazy. We also like the chair lift idea as its a pretty cool ride in itself, but its another line, just be aware. BB is also the newer of the 2.
TL has some cool things too, overall their wave pool is better (you can actually take surfing lessons there before the park officially opens). They also have a simple shark reef where you can snorkel over them.
Tip: Rent an umbrella. Each park has sectioned off areas with an 'umbrella' you can rent for $55. It is 2 lounge chairs, and umbrella 2 regular sand chairs and a small table. Depending on the time of year you go, finding a regular lounge chair in a good spot can be dicey, if not imposable. With this you are basically reserving your spot and they rarely sell out--last time we had a whole area pretty much to ourselves overlooking the wave pool. It is a great place to use as a meetup point.
If you want to go balls (and you are a FBG) you can also rent a 'cabana' or 'deck' (depending on which park) which is around $350+ but you get a private area with a picnic table, a fridge stocked with water and fruit, private locker, beach towels and a cabana boy to run and get you mass quantities of boat drinks and food. Its great place to eat away from the masses of unwashed!!!
IMO I think the umbrella is a better deal, but that's b/c we usually reserve a cabana tent at our resort pool, so we put the $$ there.
Either way, both are very enjoyable and its a great break from pounding the park pavement for a day or so.

you'll need a resort ID b/c its only for on-site guests. But basically you can do 1 of 2 things. Skip the standby line and go straight to ordering. Or order right there on the site and the food will be ready once you get there.

With little kids, the character dining is so efficient. Instead of waiting in line at the QSR to eat then waiting in line and getting squirrelly waiting to get to the front of the character line, the kids are off their feet and eating while waiting to meet characters. My daughter has an amazing collection of character autographs, so much easier to prepare and collect those at the character dining than the park greeting spots.while we are sharing our dinning

this is my go-to tip for anyone who asks for my advice. You have to eat, and you have to see characters.....do both at the same time. But they generally skew toward breakfasts and lunch. Since I never know where I will be mid day, we usually do breakfasts, but the selection is a lot safer for my pickey kids.With little kids, the character dining is so efficient. I always feel like we get our money's worth eating breakfast at Crystal Palace and Tusker House for a lot of the reasons you listed: time saved not waiting for characters later, picky eaters can load up on the stuff they like, not checking the clock as much during the day because the character meal has already happened (FP+ has me worried I'll be clockwatching too much during the day; we will see), and a character breakfast buffet does wonders for me bouncing back after a late night or short sleep from travel.The additional food cost (or DDP credits usage) versus QSRs adds up, but we load up on character autographs and pressed pennies instead of spending a lot on souvenirs to offset the cost a little.this is my go-to tip for anyone who asks for my advice. 1) Go back to Cape May Cafe for seafood buffet (went already and loved it), then head over to Epcot and wait in line for Fantasmic
2) Eat and Hollywood & Vine (never been) w/ Fantasmic package, so no waiting for seats. Reservaton already made.
Anyone been to Hollywood & Vine for their dinner package? How good was the food compared to Cape May? Is it comparable to Chef Mickey's?
And yes, O'hana is on the itinerary for Wednesday

Thanks for the heads up on Park Vue, Ferris. Pretty much exactly what you described. Great locale, clean, relatively inexpensive. We were at the parks from 8am to midnight consecutive nights and had a great time. We never waited in line much longer than 30 minutes, and that was because the time for the swinging ferris wheel was horribly mis-posted. We were fortunate to have hit Disneyland the day before Grad Night and California Adventure the day of Grad Night. We left Adventure to head back to Disneyland briefly, but we quickly rectified that when we ran into approximately 2 billion 18 year olds . I'm going to have nightmares about that hour.

I have not been to cape may for dinner, but we liked H&V. Food was good and deserts were really good (at least last summer). If you have not seen Fantasmic yet, then stay at H&V. With them adding FP+ to it, I'm hearing that Fantasmic is an even bigger mess to find seats--and the diner package seats are the best (center) over the FP+ seats (side view), then standby filling in the rest.Currently at Disney and trying to decide between 2 options for Friday night.

Hollywood & Vine is a tad more upscale than Chef Mickey's. Not by a lot - it's still a buffet - but Hollywood & Vine will have mussels and shrimp, slightly higher-quality proteins, lobster mac, and a make-your-own pasta bar. You won't get the novelty of Mickey-shaped ravioli and such like at Chef Mickey's, but there will be plenty for the kids to pick from, and since it's WDW, several choices for desserts.Currently at Disney and trying to decide between 2 options for Friday night.

Haven't done dinner at Cape May. Will keep it in mind in case we ever go to WDW with extended family members with seafood allergies and need a little time apart.
Confirming what was said earlier about Fantasmic... the dinner package reserves better seats and provides less hassle than other methods to see the show.

Using Google Maps, my daughter approximated the walking distances to the DL/DHS front gates from our room at Park Vue versus our room at the Disneyland Hotel from a previous trip. Park Vue won easily. Solid peoplewatching event on the street corner before crossing to the park entry, as well as that IHOP in the parking lot.
Apparently the dark rides on Grad Night are pretty much a brothel. There are cameras EVERYWHERE at Disney so nothing is as private or dark as it seems. The horror stories from current/former cast members who worked Grad Night are awesome.

Good news for fans of WDW and Star Wars...
January 2015 is it for American Idol Experience and Indiana Jones Stunt Show. DHS will shut down both of them to make room for more Star Wars stuff. WDW's major refresh/construction period usually kicks off right after marathon weekend, so I imagine that's when the axes fall on AI and Indy.
AIE had its time, but with the show in decline and on another network, it's time to refresh. Prime real estate in the park, too.
Indiana Jones was pretty much a part-time attraction by now, anyway. It frequently got shut down to accommodate special events.
This also leaves the door open to phase out the car stunt show and the backlot tour to reproduce Cars Land in DHS, somewhat adjacent to the existing Pixar material.

Aesthetically, it's great. There just wasn't much that kept us in there. It's probably at least partially a product of just having a daughter, who couldn't be less interested in Cars. But once we rode Radiator Springs Racers, we walked around, hit the air hockey bumper cars thing (which is a great concept, but it could use a little work), and then moved along to the next area.
As we left, my wife remarked that looking at the cliffs in distance made it feel like walking around Truman Show.

Cars is John Lasseter's favorite Pixar movie. Lasseter is in charge of the parks.I could take or leave Cars as a movie, and still haven't seen Cars 2. However, I thought Cars Land was an impressive immersive experience. Both the walk down Route 66 from the front gate and passing through the archway from Pacific Wharf felt like you were walking into the movie.
The tires ride is a dud. It probably was awesome before the lawyers made them turn down the air jets. The Junkyard ride exceeded my expectations by quite a bit - you can whip around reel good in those trailers.

Grad nite 2007: I was walking out of the space mountain breakroom, and saw one of my guy friends at the then "Honey I shrunk the audience" look like he was about to vomit, and one of my girl friends who was laughing hysterically. Apparently in the dark of the theater, some girl decided this would be a good time to go down on her boyfriend. Little did she know, about halfway into the show, one of the effects is this little tube that comes wiggling out of the seat to simulate mice running by your legs. This hit her throat, she bit down, and he was bleeding pretty profusely. A grad nite to remember!
Working gradnights is the worst. I myself went to gradnight and thought I was a badass. But now as an employee I see everything in a new light. Besides everyone illegally high, drunk, or on pills. High schoolers are horny ####s. So, I was working at one of the dance "club" areas I kid you not.a couple were ####### on the dance floor. Penis out and all. He was escorted out by security not too long after.
Night's of Joy are even worse. It's like Grad Nights on steroids because if you think regular teenagers are bad, the unspervised "christian" ones are even worse. They don't even run the people mover during it because of the dark tunnel being a prime hanky panky spot, and security is beefed up because so much theft happens during those events. My roommate worked at the Tomorrowland Speedway and came home the first night and before even saying anything else just yells "THREE! THREE HANDJOBS WE HAD TO STOP TONIGHT!"
I once saw a guy getting a blow job in the Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland. There's a pair of couches at the top of the stairs and the second floor is usually empty after the shows finish for the day. Well I walked up there just to check on the place and noticed a girl had her head on a guy's lap and it was covered by a blanket. There was movement... Now I knew what was going on but I acted like I didn't and said "Oh no, is she feeling alright? Do you need me to call first aid?" The look on his face was priceless as he muttered something about her just being tired! They left shortly after.
Nights Of Joy- is Hell on earth. The park is open to Christian youth groups and has Christian rock bands preform. During these nights extra staff is put on and extra security because there is sex and drugs and theft happening around every corner. My managers were preparing us for it. They said if you see a bush rustle kids ARE having sex behind it. the bathrooms have to be checked every 5 mins, and Any ride that goes dark for more that 3 seconds will have randy teenagers whipping their junk out. Those nights...those terrifying nights.
My housemate during my college program was given "water duty" during grad night. Basically, hiding in the catwalks above one of the rides with a super soaker and spraying anyone getting frisky on the ride below.
I worked Night of Joy years ago when I was a cp. Didn't see anything (since I was stuck inside a restaurant all night) but my buddy was working a janitorial shift and in that one night he witnessed a rock going through a store window (so the kids can steal candy), a fight, kids having sex in the bushes, and trash, trash everywhere.
on a Grad Nite on Pirates of the Caribbean a girl in the back row was seen on the security cams giving her boyfriend a blow job. As soon as he blew his load, she leaned over to spit it out, when the overhead PA boomed, "Not in the water." she was so startled she swallowed.
during the now cancelled grad nights I saw one of the kids jump into the moat around the castle...

The Tonight Show is on location at Universal Orlando this week. The Harry Potter expansion grand opening is scheduled for July 8, and it is getting air time on the show. Fallon and Higgins filmed an amusing bit at the new Ollivander's that aired Monday. Tuesday night's show featured Fallon riding the Rip Ride Rockit from the front row with Kevin Hart, neither of whom seem to be big fans of roller coasters. The Rockit is "only" 176 feet down on the first descent, but since the initial climb is straight vertical, that drop will #### your #### up if thrill rides aren't your thing.
Planned for tonight's episode is Fallon vs Pitbull in beer pong. The Simpsons are reported to be involved, so I'm looking forward to Pitbull drinking Duff.

You're staying at Wilderness Lodge and not eating at Artist Point? It's better (and slightly cheaper) than California Grill IMO. We went to both of them in March.

Good question. We ate at Artist Point on TOAL I. Haven't been to CG yet, and the views of the sunset and the MK fireworks from the top of the Contemporary are supposed to be really nice.

BD's description of H&V was dead on - slightly higher quality than Chef Mickey's - but it was still better enough that I enjoyed what I had. If you like seafood (specifically crab legs), you should try Cape May sometime. Excellent crab, seafood chowder was fantastic, and they had a flourless chocolate cake w/ raspberry filling that was like eating fudge. This was my second favorite place we ate on this trip behind O'hana.
We did hit all parks (including both water parks) and Universal one day for Harry Potter. Couple of quick notes about things that are different since our last trip 3 years ago:
- FP+ works great....for the 3 reservations you can make before your trip. Trying to add additional FPs once you use those 3 is painful enough that you don't want to do it. We stood in long lines at both MK and EP trying to get additional FPs and couldn't get anything we wanted. Miss the "old" days of the FP ticketing system.
- If you want to ride the new Mine Train, schedule a FP. Lines were running between 80-120 minutes constantly. The ride itself falls between Barnstormer and
Big Thunder. Our kids (12 and 9) found it underwhelming, but it's a good fit in FantasyLand.
- Consensus favorite rides were Rock-n-Roller Coaster (HS), Tower of Terror (HS), Test Track (EP), Expedition Everest (AK), and Hulk (Universal). Kids really loved the new interactive vehicle design at Test Track.

So I guess I'm officially a Disney 
now. Ive been a bunch of times "for the kid" the past three years. Well last night my wife says you really need to tell me what we are doing for your birthday. If we are going to have people over and do the typical cookout I need to send out invitations and set aside some money for food and beer. I ask her what she had in mind for a food/beer/entertainment/present budget. I told her to put a hold on it for an hour.
An hour later I got our Great aunt who lives about a hour away from Orlando to babysit, two resident hopper passes for a day, a room at the All Star Music and a 8:45 reservation at Le Cellier. I could of had Ohana at 9:45 but if we do that I could never get my wife to commit to going to the MK for the 1AM close afterwards.
Never done Disney "as an adult" before.

And you still won't. I go with just the wife. Usually for Disney races. We were kids the entire time. I recommend going during the food and wine festival at Epcot. Something I could not enjoy fully with the children.So I guess I'm officially a Disney

Yeah it's going to be good to be able to go to Epcot and not have to worry about being a little over served. Plus to parlay that into a night at the MK on rides my daughter refuses to go on.... An hour later I got our Great aunt who lives about a hour away from Orlando to babysit, two resident hopper passes for a day, a room at the All Star Music and a 8:45 reservation at Le Cellier. I could of had Ohana at 9:45 but if we do that I could never get my wife to commit to going to the MK for the 1AM close afterwards.
Never done Disney "as an adult" before.

Question for those of you who are up on how the new and improved fastpass + works (New as compared to in January).
My understanding is once you use all three fastpass selections you are able to pick another one. Use the fourth one and then you can pick a fifth. My question is in relation to Epcot fastpass. You can choose one of Test track (and a few other select rides) and then two of the lesser rides. If I were to use all three by noon woud I then be able to add a fourth fast pass for test track? Or is the additional selections only limited to the lesser rides?
Reason why I ask is I had planed to do from 9AM till 8PM at Epcot, have dinner and then spend 9:30 till 1AM at MK. Fastpass times end at 10PM so to use my fast pass selections at MK was a waste. Well i was just able to get a dinner reservation at 6. That means if I wanted I could fastpass rides at 8. 9 and 10 at the MK. In my personal opinion Test track is the only ride worthy of a fastpass at Epcot (or soarin). If I could fastpass it multiple times after I use my first three I'll leave my selections at Epcot. If I can't I'll switch to MK.

I think I found it..... seems like I can do test track over and over again but I can't do it from my phone.
However, you can get more FastPass+ reservations after you use the first 3.

Additional ones can be for any ride, subject to availability. TT and Soarin are the two everyone wants, so unless you're going at a very slow time, the odds of getting those over and over aren't good.
Just be ready to wait in line for the FP+ kiosk. We did it twice, and each time took 20-30 minutes. Once we got there, the FPs left were so late for the rides we wanted we didn't bother.
Best advice I can give is to schedule a FP for a ride you don't care about (lowest tier) for very early in the day and make TT or Soarin FP after that time. Get to TT or Soarin at rope drop for shortest line, then use your highest tier FP later that morning. That way you can get both TT and Soarin or 2x on either one.

Typhoon lagoon IMO and its not even close. If you have older teenagers they may like BB equally but if your kids are under 14 then Typhoon Lagoon for sure. Crushin Gusher is my favorite. The lazy river at TL is deeper and typically warmer then the one at BB and the wave pool crushes its BB counterpart. Not to mention its more relaxing swimming in a tropical paradise then at a pretend ice box. I have been to BB a few times in the past, including this past Easter, but we probably won't go again.

If you like big, bad slides - Blizzard Beach is way better. If you're more the relaxing/lazy river/wave pool type - Typhoon Lagoon. Each has elements of the other, but BB is more of a thrill park while TL is more of a chill park.

Cinderella's Royal Table will be closing for refurbishments in January and February 2015. Projected closed dates are January 5- March 6.
Expect Akershus to be packed during those dates.
