Disney Vacation (4 Viewers)

If the water in the Disneyland Jungle boat ride is anywhere near as disgusting as the water at the one in Disney World, then I don't think eating breakfast on the ride would be too great. It stinks.

Yeah, I'm not sure they thought this through.Jungle Cruise is getting extra attention these days for two main reasons:

1) Disney green-lighted a Jungle Cruise movie with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson attached to star. On the surface this seems more Haunted Mansion movie than Pirates Of The Caribbean movies, but I thought Pirates was also going to suck so my track record in this category is spotty.

2) John Lassetter was a Jungle Cruise skipper as a teenager and is still emotionally attached to the ride. Even these days as a guru and suit, when at Disneyland he will bump the skipper and take the wheel for a tour.

3) the new adventurer's restaurant opening across from JC in WDW.

Leave in 13 days for the World - can't wait. I've been busting my ### all year to lose weight and this was one of my "rewards". Free dining and Food and Wine await me!
enjoy (and congrats)

if you can, avoid F&W on sat & sunday. From what i hear, the locals come out and its gets messy.

also, get yourself a few disney gift cards for the F&W stands. its easier then using cash or racking up a bunch of small charges on your CC.

23 scrimps

7 pot stickers

5 wings

3 helpings of noodles :bag:

2 pieces of chicken

1 courtesy bite of the awful steak

Split the bread pudding

0 salad

Ps the chicken was the comeback protein of the year. Sweet and sour style. VERY juicy. They used thigh meat this time.

Excellent news on the chicken. Good on th switching to thigh meat - little cheaper, but much better equipped to handle the fire of it gets a little hot.

I endorse the salad DNP-CD. No great story ever started with having a salad.

Some more F&W info for AAABatteries or anyone else heading there:

Disney Food blog has some great overall info about it.

And here is a great round up of all the F&W special events. These are mostly extra cost/hard ticket events, but they go beyond just sampling the different foods and are great side events to do for adults who may be there w/o kids.

Thanks GB - this will be our 3rd F&W so we are old pros now! We did the gift card thing last time and it was fantastic. Made it so easy. We'll have free dining so plan to use as many snack credits as possible. I assume they still have items that can used as snacks.

Also - just FYI, we are still doing the photo shoot. I will definitely let you know how it goes and send you the referral - still have no idea what happened to it. Thanks again - I owe you a beer or three some day.

oh sh!t...total brain fart on the username...my bad GB!!

have a blast, and looking forward to hearing what you think of the photoshoot!!

It's official. This is the last year of the Osborne Lights at DHS. The contract expires after this holiday season, and the location is getting gutted for Star Wars Land.

Starting to plan trip to WDW for Oct 2016. Going to include 1 day P2P pass to Universal. I have a lot of research to do with the new FP system.

DAMMIT! We still have yet to go - maybe I need to surprise the wife and kids with a Bruce Dickinson-esque last minute trip before the EOY???

you have some time, but when you start reasserting, take a look at this page

hit the 4 links for each park after the first few paragraphs, its amazing how much data these dudes have on this stuff...kinda scary actually.

ETA: just found this page on their site with current FP+ availability ...its nuts! here is MK's example

Bummer. Loved that show.
This is the part where we don't tell our wives that DHS is offering a dessert party with preferred Osborne Lights viewing this year, with tickets going on sale sometime next week.

:coffee: can always go for some extra Christmas sugar though.

Booking my fastpasses for Nov next week. Any recommendations?
check my post just a few up from here....Touring plans has a whole few sections on it.

How many days to plan on spending in each park? For us, strategy depends on if we are doing single vs multiple days in each park. Obv, 1 day, make sure you hit the headliners. Multi: you can spread it around.

Toy Story Mania

Rock and roll roller coaster (but single rider is quick)

Tower of terror (freaky freaky ride if you dont know anything about it going in as I did)

Just got back from 6 days at disney and will give a full report later

Looking to book a trip for next summer. We are DVC members and are planning to go to the resort on Hilton Head.

Couple questions:

1) Has anyone ever been there? If so, any thoughts about it?

2) We will have 320 points available without borrowing from 2017. A 2 Br. for a week is 337 points. Part of me doesn't want to pull points from the next year, and am wondering what 17 points would cost me to rent, either from Disney or a 3rd party. And on that, has anyone ever rented points before; how did that go?

TIA

I've never stayed at HH, but if you need extra points, DVC will allow you to buy up to 25 additional points per year. I text my wife to ask how much they were, but put it this way, we were going to do a cash night at Port Orleans our 1st night b/c we were coming in late and didn't want to waste the DVC points at Bay Lake Tower. The price for the extra points was cheaper or equal to a 1 night stay at a moderate, so we opted to just buy them and stay at BLT.

IMO its better then renting from an outside person b/c this way the reservation just stays under 1 name. We gave a few puts to my in-laws this summer (they are DVC too) and it was a minor hassle b/c we had to be on the phone with them to make the ressie and such.

Edit: My Wife said it was around $15 per point. I know web sites like Davids DVC is at least $14/pp but with them you are renting from a stranger. Even at $1 pp more, having everything with DVC directly under your name is better IMO.

Thanks for the info!

We are thinking about a bigger trip for summer 2017, so I'd like to keep as many points for that as possible, but I'm not sure if the $250 that it would cost me for the points.

One thing that surprised me was that there is no 'benefit' to renting for a week. The cost for a weekly rental is equal to the sum of the daily points for the week. So I was thinking that maybe we go for a bit less than a week (Sun-Thur) and it saves me 120 points (Fri-Sat) 66 points/nite. Even if I add one of those days, I save 66 points and am under my 320.

The good news is I can't do anything about it until November, so I have time to think. ;)

Yep, I get it. I don't think you will find points much cheaper elsewhere...maybe $10 or so on eBay but then you are really leaving that transaction up to a stranger. i'd rather just pay cash for a night or 2, but thats the way I operate.

I'd assume rates at HH would be less then a Deluxe at WDW, so it would be wiser to save the points till next year. Overall though, I hate the way DVC only lets you bank for 1 year.

Thanks, I had not seen the FP+ pages before. I use Touring plans also easywdw, disboards and undercovertourist.

We are going during one of the slowest times of the year so crowds and waits should be low if we hit the parks on the recommended days. Last time we tried to do too much in 5 days and almost died doing it. This time we are going 8 days plus 2 travel days with a day off in the middle. We are also not doing some of the kiddie stuff we normally did now that the boys are older. So far 2 days at MK and EP and 1 each at DHS, AK and Universal. One thing we are discussing is how to get from Disney to Universal, any tips appreciated.

Yea, Universal will pretty much do anything to get WDW guests over to their park.

Check out this deal...2 parks, 1 day including transfer from/to any Disney resort.

NO MORE COWBELL: THE FAREWELL TOUR

10/8 pretend to work for a half-day, fly to ORD, check in at Cabana Bay Universal

10/9 Rope drop at Universal IoA, lunch at Mythos; drive to MK for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

10/10 Rope drop at Universal Studios, full day at Universal parks; dinner at Cowfish Grill Universal CityWalk

10/11 Checkout Cabana Bay, over to WDW for rope drop at AK; lunch at Sana'a, check in at Beach Club, then over to DHS; dinner at Brown Derby, LMH at DHS

10/12 Epcot; Future World rides in morning, then to World Showcase for Food & Wine Festival; tentative dinner reservation at Via Napoli if F&W doesn't fill us up

10/13 Checkout Beach Club, Epcot for F&W encore; check in at Polynesian, early dinner at Ohana, then over to MK for MNSSHP

10/14 Sleep in, hang at Poly, MK in afternoon for parade; boat to Wilderness Lodge for dinner at Whispering Canyon, boat back to MK for fireworks and LMH

10/15 Be Our Guest breakfast before MK opens, Adventureland/Frontierland rides; back to hotel to rest/hang, then back to MK for MNSSHP

10/16 Checkout, few hours at whichever park we feel hasn't gotten enough attention, then to ORD for night flight home

There is a nice window in the kid's school calendar here. With a Professional Day and Parent-Teacher Conferences, she will miss only three days of school for this trip and still have a couple days back at the house to reset for before we resume our regular lives.

Kid wouldn't agree to family-themed costumes, but will dress up for MNSSHP. She has a Malificent costume ready, a Kim Possible costume ready, and a Hermoine Granger that may not make the cut since it isn't Disney.

Wife and I will go to MNSSHP as Lady & The Tramp once, Anna and Kristoff from Frozen once, and once without costumes.

Wedding anniversary is during the trip. I should acknowledge that.

Missing the NLDS/ALDS for this, and the opening night of KU basketball practice, so this had better be awesome.

Our annual passes to WDW and Universal expire in early December and we won't renew them, so this is it for Orlando for a while, at least until Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land open.

We will still travel, just not to Orlando.

Might hit Anaheim again in a couple years without the kid, but there's a few other places we'd like to visit first before going back to a Disney Park.

Can't thank everybody here enough for all the help and all the laughs.

Will be there starting 10/9

There are a couple of park hours changes during that window that suggest crowd levels will be higher than anticipated. About a week ago, DHS's closing time on 10/11 got pushed back two hours, and MK's closing time got pushed back an hour. When a change like that happens, it's usually because WDW resort occupancy rates exceeded forecast, and the Mouse is responding by keeping the parks open longer to handle the longer lines.

I'm curious what Late Magic Hours at DHS will be like. So few attractions are up and running at the park, and even fewer at night. Will Extra Magic Hours just clog the lines even deeper at RnR and ToT?

Unrelated... credible rumor that the classic Disney characters' Star Wars costumes have been retired. So Jedi Mickey, Darth Vader Goofy, Leia Minnie, etc. won't make appearances at DHS any more.

Dates for Season Of The Force 2016 haven't been locked in yet, so if you've booked travel to Orlando or Anaheim in February 2016 assuming extra awesome Star Wars shot will go down, don't make that assumption yet.

Jedi Training Academy at DHS is shutting down on October 4.

I guess they thought DHS was so crammed teeming with activity they needed to thin stuff put a little.

Actually... they are rebranding the event. It will reopen in December (exact date unconfirmed) as "Jedi Training: Trials Of The Temple" and will use characters from Star Wars: Rebels on Disney XD.

Seasons of the Force dates for DHS accidentally got announced to Annual Passholders.

January 8 to March 20.

Launch Bay will be open, meet-and-greet Darth Vader and Chewbacca.

Special snacks and merchandise

Special weekend fireworks at DHS

Jedi Training: Trials Of The Temple will be up and running, rebranded with Star Wars: Rebels characters

Star Wars film clips inside ABC Theater
