Disney Vacation (7 Viewers)

So it looks like Space Mountain and Toy Story Midway Mania both got StoryMaker Updates

For those who may not know, StoryMaker is a part of the NextGen project, which is based off the info stored on your Magic Bands. It's intended to personalize some parts of the ride by knowing your name, hometown, birthdays, etc. Right now, they are using it like above where it will show your name on screens on the line or in the attraction. But the hope is to have certain talking characters know this info to more personalize the interactions.

right now, other StoryMaker locations include the goodbye scene from Small World, hitchhiking ghosts from HM, and some interactive posters on the line for Everest and Rockin Roller Coaster.

Some people find it cool, while others find it creepy and an invasion of privacy....thoughts?

Some news for the urban planers....

Permits were filed to do some major construction and reconfiguration on the MK entrance area. Seems they are adding ways to get get to the MK resort areas w/o having to wait in the traffic from the MK toll plaza. It includes flyovers and other re-configuring to make it easier to get to those resorts.

for anyone (me) anxiously waiting on info for the new night time show at AK (was Rivers of Light, now temporary changed to a Jungle book show), here is some unofficial info

According to the HUB (cast member internal web site): Jungle Book show is getting DINING PACKAGES:

Flame Tree BBQ Counter Service:
Prices: Adult: $23.42, Child: $12.77 $$ ($15 to $34.99 per adult)

The Jungle Book: Alive With Magic Dining Package provides Guests with a choice of dining experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and reserved seating to the new nighttime show The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic. After enjoying a mouthwatering meal, experience the beauty of the nighttime show that celebrates the relationship between animals and nature through live performers, grand theatrical imagery, a soaring musical score and innovative special effects.

Package includes choice of one (1) entrée with three sides, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage, reserved seating for The Jungle Book: Alive With Magic show.

Guests will book a dining time, but this is a QSR (Quick Service) experience - there is no table service provided.

Guests should arrive at their reserved time and they will select their meal and pay at the location.

Reservations available starting at 2:30pm until 1 hour 15 minutes prior to the show time. Guests will receive their show credential at the location
.

Here's the info from Tusker House, it looks like only Dinner will have the Jungle Book show attached to it, same for 1st, 2nd and 3rd show

Prices: Adult: $44.73, Child: $26.63 $$$ ($35 to $59.99 per adult)

Payment Methods Accepted: Travelers Checks, Key to the World, Cash, Visa, Disney Dollars, American Express, Disney Rewards Card, Master Card, Diners Club Card, Gift Card, Disney's Visa Credit Card, Discover, JCB, Disney Gift Card, KTTW Package Entitlements, Dreams Reward Card

The Jungle Book Dining Package provides Guests with a choice of dining experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and reserved seating to the new nighttime show Rivers of Light. After enjoying a mouthwatering meal, experience the beauty of the nighttime show that celebrates the relationship between animals and nature through live performers, grand theatrical imagery, a soaring musical score and innovative special effects.

Package includes one (1) buffet meal, reserved seating for Rivers of Light show.
Guests must dine 2.5 hours prior to show start as they will receive their show credential at the dining location.
As you can see it looks like the Disney IT got lazy and basically copy/pasted the info from RoL, it still mentions it in the Tusker House info
I hear the May 20 will be the date that this becomes official and open to book.

Dining packages will be huge for this b/c the theaters only fit 5K people total per show and there is no word on FPs (although it appears magic band scanners appear to be installed in one of the theater).

Total noob question but why do you have to plan your food stops? Seems like a ton of places to eat.
I would consider your kids eating habits too.  Mine (twin 4-yo when we went) are picky as hell (basically nuggets, fries, hot dogs and PB&J).  We just stopped when they were hungry and ordered 2 kids meals.  They rarely finished them all, and I never ordered for myself and ate their leftovers...then just picked up something for myself along the way at some point.

Neither cool nor an invasion for me. Just kinda....dumb

I actually looked into changing my epcot day to AK. Looked at dinner availability that night and not one place was available. Same for fast passes that day. So ill I'll stick to epcot. But show would have been nice

I'm not sure if this has ever been asked in this thread before, but does anyone have a line on where you can buy the "jungle juice" they serve at Ohana and Tusker House for breakfast? That stuff rocks. I've read that it's passion/orange/guava and that it's made by Minute Maid, but I've never seen it in stores.

We had a really good meal at The Captain's Grille during our last trip.  I think I had braised spare ribs and creamed corn that was great.

I love to eat and while I find the Disney restaurants to be really good I think it's fair to say that almost all of them are overpriced if you just take the food in to account.  You are paying a premium for the atmosphere and location and the characters.  While I've come out of meals a little dissapointed in the food I've rarely thought I didn't get my money's worth out of the meal.

Haven't seen it, either.  In Hawaii it's known as "POG juice".  Maybe searching on that term will help.

Disney food enthusiasts say the recipe is equal parts passion fruit juice, orange juice, and guava juice.  The challenge with making it at home is the difficulty of tracking down passion fruit juice and guava juice that is 100% passion fruit or guava, and not a blend of 20-30% passion/guava with apple and orange juice mixed in.

My wife recently attempted to re-create "the grey stuff" frosting served at Be Our Guest.  It was a mix of vanilla pudding mix, chocolate pudding mix, Oreos, Cool Whip, and milk.  So obviously this is geared towards health-conscious eating.

Don't know if it was an exact replica, but it was pretty good as a frosting on top of a chocolate cupcake.

Parrots aint just for the Tiki Room.....Jimmy Buffet is building a Margaritaville Resort and Community right outside Disney.
Fascinating article.  Surprised that Disney approached Buffett about doing a Margaritaville in Downtown Disney in the 1990s, but that was also the era of Pleasure Island so while off-brand for Disney it was on-brand for Downtown.

I've walked right by the Margaritaville at Universal many, many times.  Never stopped in.  I'm sure a younger, less married, less parent version of myself would enjoy hanging out there a great deal.

My wife did this too. She makes cupcakes frequently for work and other parties.....think this is her biggest hit.

I'm won't be going to Uni for a few more years with the kids being too young IMO, but I don't deny that I crave a Cheeseburger in Paradise as soon as I start thinking of going to Orlando. Its been 16+ years since I went there, but I still claim it was prob the best burger (up till then) that I ever had.

Do you like yours with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes, a big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer?

We stayed there last year for a couple nights while we waited for our Bay Lake room to open up.

It's ok, pretty big place.   They have boats that take you over to downtown disney.

For the amount of time you spend in the rooms or the resort, it really isn't a bad option.
Saratoga is our home resort.    We like it a lot.   One of the biggest benefits is the ability to walk to Downtown Disney aka Disney Springs.

Just learned that Dinosaur at AK is going down for a lengthy refurb at the end of July through the end of September 2016.

Timing is odd, b/c another thrill attraction (Big Thunder) will be down at the same time roughly (beginning Aug 8th).

It also falls during my next trip  :wall:

I know Dino needs a lot of work and glad its getting some love. I hear Everest is next, so that when Avatar opens, the park will be in the best shape it can. However, I find the summer an odd time to take down 2 pretty popular E-tickets. I wonder if the new mindset (and pricing structure) of trying to get people NOT to come in the summer/busier months has anything to do with this?

IDK...but at least this year, now both my kids will be disappointed lol....my daughter loves BTMRR and my son loves Dino. Sucks to be them.

FP+ booking times have changed today.

Before today, you were able to make your FP+'s at 12 am 60 days from check in, however now it has changed to 7am.

So go to sleep early and set the alarm.

effers. I had to stay up to 12, everyone should have to

@AcerFC I'm with you...I'm a night owl and generally stay up till 1-2 am. The old system was a benefit to me b/c I'm up while everyone else is passed out. Conversely, I don't do mornings. I'd be pissed if I overslept.

I guess there will always be something down.

They need to smooth the Dino ride out.  That's the jerkiest ride I've ever been on.  Took my son when he was 4....he may or may not have #### his pants.   He was terrified as soon as it started, then we got stuck in the dark when the ride went down for about 3 minutes.

Not sure if anything will be down around Christmas????  The new Frozen ride at Epcot should be up.

yea, I totally get that attractions need reforms. Asa matter of fact, I hate the whiners yelling "My Vacation is Ruuuuuuined!!" b/c Small World is down.

I'm just surprised they would pull 2 E-tickets down in mid summer. BTMRR has been on the calendar all year, and moved 1x, but Dinosaur is brand new to the list and I have a feeling that something must have happened for it to pop up for refurb so quickly.

Funny...I have a Dinosaur story, this was back when it was Countdown to Extinction. There with my girlfriend and her family. We were on the ride and it was very jerky back then too. At the very end, when the dino pops out above you, I get spooked and duck just as the ride car was bouncing upward and the handle bar in front hit me right in the mouth.

Well no one knew that my front 2 teeth are fake...except now when the impact popped the cap right out of my mouth and somewhere on the floor of the car.

Thankfully this was right at the end and as we are getting off, i'm scrambling around on the floor looking for it. No one knew why I was looking, but I found it and then smiled only to show my gaping black hole. Surprise....except that remember, no one knew that it was fake, so they thought I actually knocked my real tooth out.

Short story long, I confessed and we went to first aide so I could get some denture cream to try and glue it back in. Tough thing was that it was a day where I have a nice romantic night planned with the GF, so dinner was a bit hard to chew and less romantic needing to eat on the side and any deep kissing was a no go. lol

Side story: AS we were high tailing it to first aide, my GF saw Flick and Atta from Bugs Life and was joking that we should go get a picture...not as fun to me. While I was in with the disney nurse, who walks into the building but Flick and Atta. Apparently that was their backstage entrance. So my GF (now wife) ended up getting her picture anyway, just with a little less exciting background....first aide sofas and desks.

forgot to comment on this....no, you should be fine. The only thing on the rebuff list for December is the Wilderness Lodge construction.

As fro Frozen, yes, should be up by then, but its been real quiet as far as opening. Sarin should open next month, and something will be in the lake at animal kingdom—just not sure if it will be jungle cruise or rivers of light.

YES!!!!  Beaches & Cream at Yacht & Beach club is now serving........

....wait for it........

Adult Milkshakes!!

Five Adult Hard Floats and Milkshakes make up the main menu, featuring a S’mores Shake, the Classic Root Beer Float, a Grasshopper Float,Tropical Sunrise Float, and a Stout Float.

I have an ADR for them this year, and between the Kitchen Sink and these, my head may explode and ice cream will be coming out my ears.

I dont drink but these sound good. Ill stick to ice cream

Something tells me, most of your day is spent on Disney related sites

FastPass+ and dining packages for Disney’s Animal Kingdom night experiences will become available beginning tomorrow, May 21.
Looks like they are FINALLY getting on the ball with the stuff for AK night entertainment.

update...seems dinner packages for the nighttime show are for Tusker house (Breakfast Lunch or Dinner) and the new location Tiffins (this will be a 2 credit meal)

Back when I did my ADR's, I hedged my bet and booked Tusker House in hopes that they would make this a package for the show. I'm calling now to see if I can convert it to the package.

This was the first April and a few years that we weren't down there.  I'm getting the itch to go pretty bad.

really wished my wife liked it better there. I would def use the Epcot day for AK

Especially if the new frozen ride is not open by then

ETA: That site has frozen opening on june 21st. After our trip. Hmmm. But that would mean ditching Cape May and Im not sure I want to do that

shame...its a great park.  Its our #2 right now, given the extended hours and the slimmed down studios. Its biggest issue is that people don't slow down there and appreciate the details. It has had the 1/2 day park stigma for so long that people only look at the attractions. Its not an easy park...layout is a bit confusing and spread out (conservation station...hello), but we generally do 2 days there.

My wife said whatever I want. But if I did this, I would have to ditch all the FP made at Epcot and hope they have stuff at AK left along with the dinner and show option. Also need to look back up and see when the 7:00am starts

ETA: you said it started already. So I would have to wake up early to hope and then if I cant get it, not sure if its worth it

@AcerFC

If i were you, i wouldn't go nuts. The jungle book show is really only a temporary show they threw together when Rivers of Light was having its issues. Theater was built, buzz was building and everyone knew that AK was going to have night time hours. I honestly don't expect much from this JB show, to be anywhere near the level of Fantastic or illuminations. I had a feeling Rivers of Light was coming, so we planned 2 full days there.

I would not ditch all your plans for this...esp cape may. !!!

Anybody eaten at Cinderella's royal table lately? Last year or two? Family wants to make that one of our big meals in November and I'm dreading it. Awful food four years ago.

normally, I don't give a #### about these types of updates...but apparently they just changed the Beast costume, and IDK but I think it looks like....Ben Stiller???
