Disney Vacation (17 Viewers)

my long term play with DVC is go hard now when the kids are young and we don't need a lot of space. then as they get older go every other year and bank the points for a larger room or more exotic trip like Aluani (which we have planned for our 20th anniversary in 3 years). Then as the kids age out and my wife retires from teaching, we can do a few smaller trips per year her and i to do things like the Christmas parties and stuff like that, or gift the points to our kids families when the need them.

 
AK summer hours have been released and they are keeping AK open until 1am almost every night in the summer

We have some good news for those of you visiting the parks this summer. Animal Kingdom will be offering even more summer, late night, extra magic hours. With a recent change to the Animal Kingdom operating hours schedule it appears as if every night for a majority of the summer will get at least 2 extra hours of operation as a part of Disney's Extra magic hours for resort guests.

From now though July 4th, the park will be open extra hours from 11:00pm-1:00am. After that date, hours shift slightly and the park will still remain open 2 extra hours, but from 10:00pm-12:00am. These additional extra magic hours appear to end August 20th.

and in some super exciting news, for us old Adventurer's Club fans...The Kungaloosh is back!!

Beginning Thursday June 29, you’ll be able to get your old Pleasure Island favorites, including the Kungaloosh, at Dockside Margaritas at Disney Springs as part of a special #ThrowbackThursday promotion.

Every Thursday from June 29 to September 28, the special Pleasure Island drinks will be priced at $9 (including tax). There will also be a Pleasure Island non-alcoholic drink, Emil’s Strawberry Colada from the Adventurer’s Club, priced at $5 on Thursdays.

In addition to the Kungaloosh, you’ll also be able to reminisce over the Bell Bottom, Techn-O, and Thriller from 8-Trax, Hoopla from Mannequins, Armadillo Punch from Neon Armadillo, Shark Bite from Rock ‘n Roll Beach Club, Punch Line from Comedy Warehouse, and Pleasure Punch and Funmeister (which were available throughout Pleasure Island). Some of the drinks will rotate on a weekly basis, but the Kungaloosh will be available every week.

The drinks should be available on days other than Thursdays but not at the special $9/$5 pricing.

NEW FOR 2018: Guests under 21 years of age can choose one non-alcoholic beverage with their Quick Service and Table Service meal (including specialty beverages where offered). Guests 21 and older can can choose either one non-alcoholic beverage (including specialty beverages where offered) or one single serving mixed cocktail, beer, or wine (where offered) within their meal entitlement.

your going to pay about $6 more per day on the standard plan now though. $75 a night up from $69. 

this begs an obvious critique though. As the parent of an 11 year old that eats like a bird and that disney considers an adult, we were already questioning the value of the dining plan for her (and we were die hard DP fans). But now, to put her on the DP, with the increase AND she's not eligible to drink makes it really not worth it. Unless I feel like getting double drinks.

well, I assume she can now get the tinkerbell light up fruit punch that my kids have to get every time we go

I do not drink so this kind of suxors for me. 

 
Word is the Disneyland corn dogs have landed at magic kingdom. Sleepy Hollow. Might drive over this weekend to test their validity.

We pay cash now for that reason amd the fact that almost every time I'd rather have an appetizer than the meal plan dessert.  Between our DVC discount, annual pass and Tables in Wonderland card we always get a decent % off every meal we can use them and we can get what everyone wants for the same or sometimes less than the meal plan.

yea, but I don't need a weeks-worth of those coming home with me. 

I'm with you, I'm not a drinker all the time. I do enjoy a beverage here and there and must make a stop in France for my Grey Goose slushy, but unless i'm sitting down to a nice steak or fine seafood, I don't need a drink. Especially when i'm walking back into a August hot theme park.

yea, I may be going that route...I already have 2 of the 3 you do...DVC and AP. But funny you mention the TIW card b/c the discount on alcohol has always been the biggest differentiator for those who use it. I wonder if that played into Disney's decision to add it to the DP?

Yep, that was me.  Non-expiring tickets would likely be expensive, I just bought the plastic cards that had the attached tickets already used but were still "active".  You could then use the park kiosks to book another set of 3 fastpasses on each.  You weren't going to get the premium rides (7DMT, BTMRR, Space Mtn, etc), but it's always nice to be able to skip the line at even some of the less desirable stuff.  Basically it was the dregs of the fastpasses remaining, but it was still worth the $16 for the cards.

Also, there FP system looks different.  You go check in at the ride and you get a paper pass for when to return.  Is that correct?

DLR is changing their FP system.  First day of it was today.

Disneyland Daily is an excellent blog for planning DLR park days

3 days should be plenty to cover everything, but there are a few high-demand new attractions that require some skill and planning to get FPs at decent times and avoid long standby lines.

Some interesting thoughts and some reaches (imo). I have my thoughts on Epcot and I'll try and sum them up when I have some time.  

Thats a park that really needs some love and has amazing potential.

Universe of Energy is good if you want a relaxing 10 minute or so boat ride...good place to catch a nap.  Zero frills though....younger kids like looking at the plants and stuff

I was about to get on Universe of Energy while waiting for the wife and kids and guy told me it was about a 45 minute ride.  Didn't want to be stuck that long.

Wife has tried to tell me that we have to go to EPCOT before this all starts, especially the end of Illuminations which is one my favorite things there. 

I might have said yes.....

I am probably one of the few people that loves Universe of Energy.  I think the story it tells is actually an important one for the aura of the EPCOT story.  And I like the people that are in it, especially a younger hot as hell Jamie Lee Curtis.

 
God all those Disney sites give my phone AIDS. They are the worst. 

Saw today they expect toy story land to be open 7/1/18. That won't be busy at all!

 
A few pages back someone said they had a way to tell which park would stay open late/open early. We will be there nov. 11-18 and we're trying to plan meals and maximize time in the parks.

anything related to that time frame really is greatly appreciated. Happy to do the work. Just need a link/ pointer.

very cool...w/o getting into too much detail (unless you want to), can i ask how she does? Its something I've considered getting into but there is not a lot of solid info out there and it seems there are a lot of different working situations. 

• does she work for herself or a larger company?—are they funneling her leads or is she on her own?
• is the commission worth the headache?—I can imagine being responsible for the whole trip (canceled flights, discount hunting, overall WDW expectations and complaints) 
• Is it something that can be done PT/in addition to your regular job? 
any other general info you feel comfortable sharing. 

One of the bigger Disney Podcasts/Travel Agencies "Dreams Unlimited Travel/Disunplugged" put out an open call to for new agents and I tossed my application in and got decently far into the process.  It sounded enticing, but I was unsure if the commission was something that could match/have the potential to match my current income.

Set the DVR for tomorrow night. Tuesday, June 27th at 8 pm on Animal Planet "Disney's Animal Kingdom, Alive with Magic" docu-commerical. 

 
Some timing changes coming to the Very Merry Christmas party this year.

Party will start at 7pm as normal. However, guests w/o a ticket normally can stay and ride attractions up until 7pm, but now they will be kicked out an hour earlier at 6 to make a little less crowding for the party guests at the start of their event. Non-party guests can still shop and dine up until 7pm, but they cannot ride attractions. 

This will only be for the VMCP, the Halloween party hours will not be affected this year.   

 
Who put the P-C in Pirates of the Caribbean?

Seems the redhead everyone wants to buy, is now turning her 'starboard side' and will go from auctioned lass to pirate bad-###. 

Expect new changes to the famous/classic scene when PotC reopens from refurb sometime in 2018. 

You’ll even discover that a familiar character is playing a new role joining the pirates ranks and helping the local townspeople “unload” their valuables at the Mercado auction.
