Assuming no major ligament damage, a dislocated elbow should be reasonably ready to go in 4-6 weeks. The Broncos are suggesting that's the case. They have a Week 6 bye, though, so it's conceivable that, if Woodyard and Mays are playing well and Williams heals slowly, that we may not see him until Week 7.Anyone know how bad DJ Williams injury is and how long he is expected to be out? Dislocated elbow sounds pretty bad
jimc3 said:whoa...everything I saw (rotoworld, KFFL, Denver papers) said 3-4 weeks, in which case he'd be shooting to try to be ready for week 2...did Broncos staff mention the 4-6 weeks in a press conf or interview that you heard that didn't get picked up by the regular outlets?
missing DJ for 1 game won't hurt me, not having him until week 7 is a problem...if so would have to make alternate arrangements
I sure it's right. I value Jene's insight and I just released Williams because I would never e carry dead weight for 4-6 weeks.
The news I read on Yahoo said he is not practicing and doesn't appear close to a return.
I think there's a pretty slim chance he'll be out through Week 7. Just raising the possibility. Think Week 4/5 is reasonable. Week 3 possible. Hard to know for certain until we hear how effective he is in practice with/without a brace on.'jimc3 said:whoa...everything I saw (rotoworld, KFFL, Denver papers) said 3-4 weeks, in which case he'd be shooting to try to be ready for week 2...did Broncos staff mention the 4-6 weeks in a press conf or interview that you heard that didn't get picked up by the regular outlets? missing DJ for 1 game won't hurt me, not having him until week 7 is a problem...if so would have to make alternate arrangements
Woodyard would go to the bench, but I imagine he could play in some nickle and dime subpackages. Mays is the Mike LB and Woodyard is strictly a Will. Historically, Woodyard has performed well in Williams' stead and he's an asset on special teams, but he is really only fit for the weakside. IIRC, the coaching staff made it clear that DJ is playing Will too after there was some offseason speculation he would move back to Mike.Who goes to the bench Woodyard or Mays? I would think they would be hard pressed to not play Woodyard when he is playing well.
The team might be better off with Woodward and Williams on the field but they did draft Irving.Woodyard would go to the bench, but I imagine he could play in some nickle and dime subpackages. Woodyard is a tackling machine, some guys just make plays and he is one of them. He is not a big LB but he is tenacious and athletic, I think it is a big mistake if he goes back to the bench. However, he most likely will go back to just being a sub guy on certain packages. The team might be better off with Woodward and Williams on the field but they did draft Irving.Woodyard would go to the bench, but I imagine he could play in some nickle and dime subpackages. It looks to me like Woodyard is the guy who has to stay on the field when DJ gets back. You're right, he's good, start him.OK ... but this is a DJ Williams thread
If Williams or Woodyard could play mike effectively I would agree, but Woodyard is too small and (imo) Williams is not a very good mike. Mays is a work in progress, lacks the lateral quicks, etc...but he has the MLB mentality and it seems like he's improving. The Broncos don't have the ideal MLB right now, but I think Mays is probably the better 2-down mike for now. DJ is far better suited as a chase tackler who doesn't have to take on a lead blocker or fight through the trash to make a play. That said, I do think, assuming full health, Woodyard and Williams will be the LBs in nickle situations with Miller continuing to move around for the foreseeable future. It looks to me like Woodyard is the guy who has to stay on the field when DJ gets back. Williams (elbow) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans, the Associated Press reports.
Recommendation: A wait-and see approach is probably prudent this weekend, but once he's up to speed, Williams' ability to rack up tackles makes him worth a look as an IDP pickup.
Was he active but not starting? Woodyard has pretty good stats.
bumpI'm interested in the answer to this, as well. Was he active but not starting? Woodyard has pretty good stats.
