Django Unchained -- new Tarantino film (1 Viewer)

Lot of hype for this movie. It sounds terrible IMO.
All Tarantino movies -- except maybe for Reservoir Dogs -- sound terrible if you just explain what they're about out loud. The first time he actually makes a bad movie, I'll PM you.
Death Proof was one of the worst films ever released.
Hyperbole much? I think you need to see more movies.
Seriously? Me?

Just sayin' when someone says "____________ is one of the worst ever," it's usually not even close to one of the worst ever.

Not sure I get the Foxx hate. I like him in pretty much everything I've seen him in. And the guy does have an Oscar on the shelf.
I liked him for a long time, but he's become completely narcissistic the past few years. I'm a narcissist, so it's gotta be bad coming from me. Most of his interviews become a showcase for him to constantly attempt to impress you. I still like him in some stuff. Loved him in "The Kingdom" (Underrated movie). He's as talented as there is, however now he knows it, and he has to make sure you're aware of it.
If you want to boycott narcissism, you might as well stop watching movies altogether.
Ok, obnoxious. He's become obnoxious. Truth be told, the man is actually as bad as he thinks he is.

I will pay to watch anything Tarantino directs. Have not loved every film but his movies are always worth the price of admission.
QT still owes me money for suffering through Death Proof.
I would rank that as one of my least favorite but I also respect what he was trying to accomplish and in some ways he did. I thought Kurt Russell was pretty good in his role but the women just don't hold it together for me and the long long long conversation they have in the middle is painful to say the least. But still that film is better than a good chunk of the crap that gets released in theaters. Inglorious Bastards more than made up for Death Proof.

How many repressed minority revenge fantasies can one man make? We've got your feminist revenge fantasy. We've got your Jewish revenge fantasy. And now we have your black revenge fantasy. Tarantino is going to have to move to Native Americans or gypsies next.
Dwarves. You know, "little people."Just imagine what Tarintino could do with a bunch of pissed off kung-fu trained midgets taking on Manhattan.

Really don't get the hate for Death Proof
Death Proof synopsis by Chaka: Boring, boring, boring, hot Rosario Dawson dance, kinda interesting, getting good, cool car crash, BAM the longest most momentum draining, inane, dull, vapid, stilted, awkward, inauthentic, shallow, unnecessary, jam-a-pencil-in-your-ears conversation in the history of film, boring, boring, awesome Zoe Bell stunt, potentially cool car chase that never develops or changes one iota from the inception to the ending removing any and all tension it initially created, step on Kurt Russel's head. The End.

I agree with Chaka. I was so looking forward to this and for a second it almost had me. But that stupid circle of punches crap at the end made it impossible to like. Crap. When something sucks that you had high expectations for, it sucks even harder.

:goodposting: That pretty much nails it. I like Tarantino a lot but I'd view "Death Proof" as a curiosity more than a good film or story. I liked Russell in his role, though. Really looking forward to "Django Unchained." Trailer looks great and the cast is amazing.

While I was watching, I thought, wow, he's got three Academy Award winners. But then I realized that DiCaprio's been nominated multiple times, but never won.

Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Dern are also former Oscar nominees in the cast.As is Don Johnson. Never nominated but he's Sonny Crockett and Sonny Crockett rules (Johnson version only, no Colin Farrell crap).

That description doesn't really befit the moniker "Worst Movie Ever Made."Watch Terror Firmer and get back to me.

How does Will Smith turn this down? Too vanilla for these characters I guess?
He found the script offensive. "Kill white folks and they pay you for it. What's not to like?"I read it and didn't like a few of QT's shout outs. The one for Dentist was okay but the one for me?! :hot:

So it's basically "Inglorious Basterds" but about slavery instead of Nazis?
What I meant to say was: This thing looks terrible. Seriously. Worse than IB which is saying a lot.
Inglorious Basterds x Kill Bill x ?!
No idea what you're trying to say but both movies are terrible.

Ive never really seen an interview of his, but I can almost see this without needing to. Its like once he got all the acclaim and recognition for his performance in Ray, his head got huge and for the most part he likes to make sure everyone knows how talented he is. The Kingdom was pretty good (and overlooked/underrated)...He also was pretty terrible and annoying in The Soloist.

Chris Tucker!? :lmao:
:goodposting: Methinks Jamie Foxx was not on QT's original short list.
Dunno about that, but Chris Tucker outside of having a small role in Jackie Brown seems like a very odd choice to star in QT's next movie. Speaking of Jackie Brown, Chris Tucker hasnt even been in a movie not called Rush Hour since Jackie Brown 15 freakin years ago, which makes the thought of him being the star in a drama of 1 of the most followed directors going pretty perplexing.Stringer Bell wouldve made a ton of sense and wouldve loved to see him in this role, but Im not shook up with Jamie Foxx doing the work here.

I'm not sure Jamie Foxx was the right guy for this role.
Agree. He didn't seem to work in the trailer. Felt out of place somehow.
I saw Idris Elba auditioned - the whole time I was watching the trailer I couldn't help picturing him in that role instead of Foxx and how much cooler the trailer would have seemed.
Interesting.I just watched the trailer now, and 15 minutes ago I said I think Elba would be great in this role yet now I think Foxx is probably a better fit. Hard to say, but this role looks like it has more humor weaved into the drama than I expected for a QT film, which fits right into the hands of Foxx as Django. I think Elba is somewhat versatile, but he's much stronger in pure drama roles than ones that involve humor/comedy/sarcastic charisma...As much as I love String, I think Foxx mightve been the right pick here, and I certainly trust Tarantino.

This looks freaking ######ed. The surrealism of his movies just feels too bizarre to me. Characters, personalities and concepts completely out of place doesn't play well in film, IMO. The beauty of Pulp Fiction was that it was odd and twisted, but you could buy it in LA in the 90's. But a renegade slave bounty hunter using dialects and attitudes of modern American culture? Inglorious Bastards was a step too far as well. Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown also had their hints of reality among the bizarre situations, but this new one just plays way too far away from reality to work, IMO.

I dont disagree (depending on the film from Tarantino), but I think sometimes you have to suspend belief/reality/history when watching his work.

I am a big tarantino fan, but I was a little skeptical watching this trailer. that is until the ultraviolence kicked in near the end

Actually it makes perfect sense. Tarantino loves to resurrect stars and place them in unexpected roles. Look at Travolta.

Sure, but Chris Tucker is pretty much just a stand up comedian who has been in a half dozen successfull movies. He's not a good actor and would be in way over his head in a role like this.

You guys are nuts. Inglourious Basterds probably should have won Best Picture in 2009.

Did you see Elba's turn on "The Office"? He was awesome.
