DMac to KC a possibility (1 Viewer)

That backfield would be amazing, as soon as they find a way to get around that pesky "one ball at a time" rule.
They'd have two backs who can catch the ball, a tight end who can get the ball open in space, an improving Bowe, and six blockers. You can't cover Gonzalez with a linebacker, but he can block a safety, so you have seven blockers when you need them and he can clear out the box for either back if he needs to. With two tight ends and two backs, you can't cheat to either side, and you could hit short passes anywhere on the field so you can make up for the offensive line deficiencies by making short, quick passes in any direction. It's a good ball control offense, which is what Herm wants. I think it's one of the better picks the Chiefs could make.
I happen to agree. I truly hope he goes to KC now just to see what would happen.

Sooner or later, one of them would have to go. Too much money, too much ego, not enough touches, pick your reason. But I'll play along.

1. Is this offense going to have only Bowe out wide or are you counting the 2nd WR as one of the 6 blockers? That 2nd TE better be a real good blocker, because LJ ain't blocking anyone. And if they are planning on only running one WR out there, they aren't scaring anyone. I put my 2nd CB on Gonzo and take him completely out of the game.

2. How many years does Gonzo have left?

3. LJ always struck me as a guy that is a 20 carry guy. And we know Herm likes to run him. having him on the field, and not giving him the rock is kind of a waste.

4. I would love it if KC did this.

JMO.

1. Sometimes, only Bowe. Have fun with your corner on Gonzo when KC runs it right at him. And the list of corners who can "take Gonzo completely out of the game" includes one guy, Champ Bailey. The second receiver for the Chiefs isn't scaring anyone anyways, so you may as well get your best talent in the game. When you can start either running back three yards in the right direction with momentum, you can spread the defenders out. When both running backs can catch the ball well, you can spread them out even further. And when you have six blockers in there, you can attack the interior of the line even if you have poor quality blockers. 2. About as many as Larry Johnson, probably. This is a short term scenario intended to keep them both healthier by taking some of the load off of them.

3. Johnson can't get 300+ carries again and stay healthy. It's just not realistic. Get them both on the field, keep LJ healthy, and get him 12-17 touches a game while getting DMac 10-15.

4. KC isn't winning a Superbowl any time soon, but this might be their best chance to have an above average offense.

KC will not draft McFadden for the same reason Arizona didn’t draft Adrian Peterson. They have too much money invested at the position already.

Larry Johnson signed a six-year, $45.05 million contract in 2007. The deal included a $12.5 million signing bonus and contains $19 million in total guarantees. His 2008 Cap charge is $6.156 million.

Plus, DMC at 5 will be more expensive than Peterson.

Compare that to Chestor Taylor:

Chester Taylor signed a four-year, $14.1 million contract in 2006. The deal includes $5.6 million in guarantees. 2008 and 2009 salary is $3 million.

Minnesota had got rid of all their marquee players a year earlier. Adrian Peterson made a ton of sense for the organization. I can’t speak for all Vikings fans but many (including Andy and myself) were praying for Peterson on draft day.

This is the last paragraph contained in that article on warpaintillustrated.com:"As ludicrous as it might be, don't discount the possibility that Kansas City might pick McFadden. Warpaint Illustrated was recently informed that McFadden has been seriously discussed at Arrowhead as recently as this past week. According to our source, the Chiefs definitely have an interest in the rookie running back."
As far as smoke screens go, this one is pretty weak. Gee, "a leak" to warpaint illustrated, I guess holding a public press conference where Peterson professes his infatuation with Mcfadden would have been over the top.

I really cannot see this scenario happening for many of reasons...most of which you folks stated above. KC is scheduled to have Matt Ryan, Dorsey, Albert, and Clady in KC for visits starting yesterday.

While this is no guarantee that these are the ONLY players the Chefs are targeting at #5, history implies that the Chefs may indeed go one of these routes...

well, only 11 more days til we all find out for sure... whether it be one of the players above, or Dmac!!!!

1. I like Gonzo, but you are overrating him to the point of absurdity. The Raiders put a safety on him and did just fine. And since in your scenario the Chiefs don't address their horrendous line, Gonzo will again be staying in to block.
2. About as many as Larry Johnson, probably. This is a short term scenario intended to keep them both healthier by taking some of the load off of them.
I don't see how DMC's arrival lessens Gonzo's workload. In fact, I can't see a scenario in this innovative Wing-T you've got going here, in which Gonzo gets to leave the field. He's either got to block for these RBs, or provide the only other "downfield" target for.........Brodie Croyle.

LJ can't get 300 carries? Says who? I know 400 carries kicked his ###, but is he such damaged goods that he can't get 20 carries?
4. KC isn't winning a Superbowl any time soon, but this might be their best chance to have an above average offense.
For the short term, maybe. They still have no one to block, and no one to throw. And that won't change until they draft some players. You can't get QBs and OTs iin free agency any more.
