They have a chance because after the bye their schedule is really soft. Only tough game is vs. Colts

The Chiefs at home is a must-win game for the Chargers.

If the Chargers do win that game, they're 0.5 games behind right now with 10 games left to play. It's going to come down to who the better team is this year. Maybe that's the Chiefs, but I think the Chargers would be decent favorites in any poll where people had to back up their votes with money (e.g., in the sports books).

I think the loss at the Chiefs is going to be what prevents it. Had they beat the Chiefs twice they would have been able to win the division tie-breaker at 9-7 (a realistic record IMO) because I don't think they will have a better division record. It could come down to conference record so there's a small, but unlikely chance.

No way the Chragers make the playoffs.

Now as for the Chargers...

I don't know the answer, but I doubt anyone would have even seriously asked this question back in August. My, how things have changed in the AFC west.

Agreed. It's looking like I should've suggested that this division would have a 7-9 champion instead of the NFC West.-QG

This thread has high December-bump potential no matter what happens. ;)
Ahhh WTH, since this has so much bump potential, I'll remind you that there are 2 other teams in the division that you better not forget about. Denver, although in a loss, thouroghly outplayed the Jets last week. If that team can ever figure out how to play a full 60minutes, they will be a team to be reckonned with. The Raiders have as much talent as anyone at every position except quarterback. If that team can ever get consistant play from the QB position, they also just might be a team to be reckonned with.Don't be so quick to make this a Chargers/Chiefs only race.All that being said, San Diego should still be considered the favorites to win the AFC West, although I voted "No" because I can't stand them.

Chiefs are clicking. Raiders/Broncos need luck. You can say the same about any division "Well, its not a top 2 team race, if just those other teams click" Well maybe not every other division but most. However, I want to know why your opinion why San Diego is still favorites?

Because the Chargers have a history in recent years of starting off slow. They are only a game and a half back, the season is still young, and I think the Chargers have the most talent in the division. I still loathe them though.

I think Tremblay hit the nail on the head. If we assume a win in the next game over the Chiefs then they're 0.5 games back from 1st place in the division, and I think they easily outplay the Chiefs the rest of the way outside of that.

So the question is whether or not they win that game with the Chiefs, which now is certainly a must win. Given that last time KC needed 3 long kick returns and sloppy field conditions (let's not forget, SD looked to have open receivers in the endzone at the end on two separate occasions where the receiver slipped and fell down with the game winning TD pass on the way to them) to beat them at home, I'm guessing they've got pretty good odds of pulling that one out.

The Chargers are a whopping 1 game worse off (2-4 vs 2-3) than they were each of the last two seasons, and each of those two years they were looking up at 5-0 and 4-1 teams on top who looked dominant. In all seriousness, if you looked at SD at this point in the season each of the last 3 years, this is by far the easiest road they've had.

I don't think so. The Chiefs' remaining schedule is ridiculously easy, and the Chargers still have to play the Patriots, Texans, Colts, and Titans. I think the Chargers will beat the Chiefs at home, but I still don't think they make it. I know some people are having a hard time taking the Chiefs seriously, but they're a legitimately good team.

I predict the Chargers finish 10-6. I predict the Chiefs finish with at least 7 losses, and the Broncos and Raiders finish with at least 8 losses apiece. Thus, I predict the Chargers win the division and make the playoffs. I realize many will disagree, just posting this to put it on the record.

8 wins straight... That's not wishful thinking by a Chargers fan at all huh :bye:

2-4

Pats

Titans

@Texans

@Colts

Plus other games which one would be a fool to assume they win all of, given that they've lost 4 already that were of a similar difficulty.

No. They won't even sniff the playoffs.

No, they won't make it because the wildcard is likely out of their reach. Their chances diminish even furuther with a loss to NE today. Kansas City has a soft schedule and is already 1.5 games ahead with a win against SD.

Look at KC's remaining schedule....

Unless this start is a total fluke, I see at least 9 wins for KC and maybe even 11.

I'm kind of glad I missed this game, as I did the last one. I might start watching again once they ditch Norv Turner.

There is no way to set expectations for a team that is so horribly inconsistent.
