My guess is that the guy is a sociopath, at least as far as my understanding of the word goes. It's not a dog vs human issue, it's not a race issue, it's not a penalty for a given crime issue, it's a "There's something seriously wrong with that dude." issue.
What is this opinion based on? Strictly anecdotal evidence. I don't know the man. Everything I've read about him could be wrong (except the things that were made public from the court proceedings and that he admitted to, not much doubt about that stuff).
But if you gave ANY credence the entire public history of Vick the man, there are a TON of things that make you think the dog thing was anything but "one time mistake" or a "cultural thing" (if that's what you want to consider torturing your kids' pets for fun). The drugs, the thefts, the fake charities, the knowingly passing of VD to random women, flipping off the fans, blowing Congress off twice when he was supposed to be lobbying for one of his "causes", the hilarious bankruptcy recovery plan, etc.
THAT guy doesn't go to jail for a year (probably with half the population kissing his ### the whole time he was in based on what I've read on this board alone over the past couple of years) and come out a model citizen. He just doesn't. If THAT guy could torture a dog tomorrow and knew he would get away with it, he would. Vick cares about Vick. That's all.
So to answer the question, no, I don't give much credence to anything he says. He lied through his teeth for YEARS about any number of things - many of them now proven beyond any shadow of a doubt. How could he possibly have much credibility at this point, even if you DON'T believe he is a sociopath as I do? He'll say whatever he thinks is best for him. Anything remorseful he says is likely something he has been trained to say.
But he sure can play football.
