Giants/Dodgers is comparable when the teams are decent... They haven't been in a few years, so its been on the backburner.
I suppose you could say the same thing about Cubs/Cardinals, but it's just not that often that these two teams are well-matched AND I don't think either of those two rivalries has some of the infamous moments of Yankees Red Sox. The Yankees and Red Sox have been in a fairly close competition for more than 5 years straight now.

Yanks/Sox is the greatest rivalry in all of sports.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: More proof. You're one of THOSE guys.
What's better? It's hands-down the best rivalry in baseball. Cowboys/Redskins? Lakers/Celtics?I can't even think of other rivalries even close to that level, really.
are you serious? how familiar are you with college football?
that's a good point. I was thinking just professional. In general, college rivalries can't be touched by pro rivalries.

I could not disagree more. Watching primadonnas with little allegiance to their organizations, and even less to the fans or the city they are passing thru, where they waltz around for paychecks and egos, is nothing, and I mean NOTHING like the fervor of a college football rivalry. Athletes play for pride that they will never feel again in only a few games of their life. THAT, is the essence of sport. It's not a job, it's a privilege. No comparison. NONE.

Unfortunately, Red Sox fans have almost completely soured me on what used to be my favorite sports team. They're still my favorite baseball team, but I grow more and more indifferent every time I talk to (or hear from) a fellow Sox fan.

I'm not sure what drives me crazy the most: the Theo Epstein/Bill Belichick comparisons (not even close... not even close); the sense of entitlement of the fans; the inferiority complex; the constant bashing of managerial decisions; the absurd notion that this fan base is even close to being among the most loyal in sports; the ####-hole stadium that is so undeservedly revered; or any of a dozen other things I don't feel like listing here.

That, combined with the lack of a salary cap, has really driven me away from baseball. The only aspect that keeps me interested at this point is watching David Ortiz on a day-to-day basis.

A sad state of affairs, really.

You should of had a secondary poll to see who cares about which team.

As we approach September I start to follow the Sox a bit closer. I become interested as the playoffs approach as that is really the only time that I can watch and follow baseball over an extended period.

And yes, I am from Boston and it is the Sox that I watch/cheer for.

If you're a fan of baseball in general you have to be interested in yanks/Sox games. Just like if you're a fan of college baseball you always tune into the Duke/UNC games. If you only follow your crumby little team then you're a tool not a fan.

im sure some of the soccer teams in europe have rivalries that are just as intense if you want to look at pros only.

:goodposting: , as well as the college rivalry post.I think two teams who assemble their teams via draft\free agency almost immediately knocks them down a notch on the rivalry meter. Can you really expect a Manny Remirerz (grew up in the Bronx) and Johnny Damon (who won a championship on Boston) to vehemently dislike the uniform of their so-called-rival?

I think the coverage on these two teams is extremely overblown, but maybe I have southwest coast bias.
Everything on these teams are overblown; resources, salaries and consequently media coverage, that is the way MLB has set up their business model. Don't hate the players, hate the game.

Right, but before that the Giants/Dodgers rivalry was better... They definitely have had their share of infamous moments. These things go in cycles.

the fans make the rivalries, not the players. the players are insignificant. we root for jerseys, not people.

No, I don't really care about either team, i am a FBG!

Seriously, Yankees/Red Sox represent what is wrong about baseball, and what is right about the NFL.

You can't spend your way to the top in the NFL, you have to be smart.

Everybody recognizes that this is a big problem with major league baseball [yes I know about the A's, but they are the exception that proves the rule], but nobody knows what to do about it. Half or more baseball teams start every season having no chance at a world series.

Always disliked the Yankees, but kinda liked the Red Sox, or at the very least, didn't mind them at all. Even got a Boston hat as kid once (Angel game).

Anyway, now I can't stand either. Boston fans have had a big part in that, I guess...not to say Yankee fans are any better...they aren't. I've felt this way for a few years now, but to illustrate my new found disdain, check this out:

I was at a Mariners/Sox game in Seattle recently, and I sat in front of the most obnoxious, know-it-all fan I have ever heard at a baseball game. Literally, EVER. It was all Boston, ALL the time...even when they were up like 7 - 2. Guy still never let up. Their "Captain" gets a single, and the guy kept saying, in that crap accent, "That's what Captain's do, ya see!...there's a captain right there! See, he never let up. He's showing the rest of the troups that you don't let up...EVAH. You see that right there?" On, and ON, and ####### ON the guy went.

We left our seats to get away from him. I didn't care much who won, never cheered or anything, but sure enough, as we were leaving he was babbling about leaving early or something. We come back a few innings later, and he himself had left early.

Just awful.

Oh, and the Ben Affleck stuff was a joke, too. And that movie they were making during the World Series and stuff. They finally win one and it was like they were entitled to it.

Yep, I sure do hate the Red Sox now.
:lmao: Amazingly, Red Sox fans have overtaken Yankee fans on the dbag list. You can't even go to a Sox-Rays game here anymore, you just want to punch these #######s. What's funny is that 7 years ago, the Sox weren't that big a draw down here. Win a series, and all of a sudden the bandwagon was out in force.
For some reason, I keep cracking up at that part. Say, does anybody here know anything about Don Orsillo, the Red Sox announcer? Is he and is family a ####, or is he liked more than Stompin' Tom Connors?

TIA
update?

Well...the whole world is watching.
No it's not.
According to ESPN it is.And I also agree that it's not the greatest "rivalry" in all of sports. The other side needs to win more than once for it to be a rivalry.
DOUSH.
He's a doush who hasn't paid his fees for two leagues he's in.

.
After last weeks series with NY some callers to Boston sports radio were calling for Theo's head

I don't know who the bigger tools are: the ones who chant "Yankees Suck" at a Patriots-Celtics-Bruins-BC game or the whiners in this thread

Try sitting in front of a Mets fan at a Mets/Phillies game. Yanks fans on the other hand are some of the most class acts I've been around.
