Let's say your local pizza or Chinese joint...

You order your 2 slices or General Tso chicken.

You go up to counter to get your food you then sit down eat and then get up to pay when your done.

Do you clear your table and throw your stuff out in the garbage or do you just leave it on the table?

I have never been able to just leave my stuff behind but see many people who do.

If I go to a counter to get a tray of food, I clear my table when I finish.

Depends on the restaurant. If they have clear areas for you to put your tray/dishes then yes, I'll clear. Otherwise it's a confusing mess as to where I'm supposed to put everything.

If there's no waiter/waitress of course you clear your own table. What kind of animal leaves their garbage behind?

Unless they have a staff dedicated to that (like a BK which wants to appear high class), I will clear my table.

If it is confusing and my first time there, I will ask, and act depending on the response.

I can't imagine asking someone at a restaurant if I need to throw out my own trash when I leave. I've never in my life been someplace where it wasn't apparent after 15 seconds of looking around.

I cant think of a time where I paid after I ate, but still cleaned my own table. So, I will vote no.

Let's say you're given something like a tray or plate that you cant just throw away. And let's say there's no obvious area to put the non-garbage items. What do you do then? I've been to a few places like this.

In fact, as much as I rant about Chipotle, this is another area where they fail, at least at the one near me. They give you the little plastic baskets that you obviously cant throw out but their garbage was the kind that loads from the top and there's no place to put the little tray. I would give it to a staff person but the way the line at Chipotle is set up this isn't easy and you're obviously not meant to do it that way. They're all frantically trying to hurry making their fake burrito's. I ended up leaving the tray on the condiment/straw counter.

I always see a space just above or near the trash bins...usually next to the sign that says DO NOT THROW AWAY PLASTIC BASKETS

It's pretty obvious when there are trash cans on the restaurant floor and plastic trays sitting on top.

If I picked my food up from a counter, yes.

If a waiter/waitress brought me my food, no.

Don't think there is really any gray in this one.

What about this kind of trash can and no table next to it where its obvious to leave the tray? I've been to a few places like this. These are the places where I tend to notice people just leaving their crap on the table.
If there's really absolutely nowhere else you can leave the tray, take the tray with your trash to the garbage can, throw all your trash away, and put the empty tray back on the table. Someone will come around and grab the tray at some point. I fail to see why they need to throw away your crap too.

I usually toss a hundred at the table next to me and ask them to clear it. Isn't that what everyone does?

This. I do that even when there's staff that may do it assuming there's a clear place to set tray. I also don't tip though at these places fwiw.

Hmmmm

There is a pizza place i often go to near my job that has garbage cans out and the person behind the counter always brings out food to the customers.

I do often see people leaving their food on the tables.

Is this a grey are or are these people still animals?

Oh, trust me.. I have.

I voted yes, but I don't think that I'd ever eat at an inefficient place that required me to go to the counter three separate times.

This is a pizza maker guy / cashier doing a kind deed by bringing them their food. No gray at all, throw it away, they aren't waiters.

This is the ambiguous example I was thinking of, because I frequent these places often. So it depends. Are you tipping? If you're tipping, you might be giving them extra courtesy by leaving some money for somebody who doesn't make much. You might leave the garbage and a tip. Of course, this could also be construed as offensive. I never have any idea what to do unless I've been to that particular place before. If they serve, does that mean they expect to bus your table and receive a tip?

If you're not tipping, throw it away. That part should be self-explanatory manners.

Ain't it kinda the norm?

1.

"Hi, I'll take a white slice and a meat lover slice."

"Sure, no a problem"

:goes and sits down:

2.

"whitea slicea and a meata lova pizta itsa ready"

:goes up to get food:

3.

:goes up to pay:

"Yea, i had the white slice and meat lovers pizza with a pop"

"what da hella is a pop!!!! Ehhhh funguloo!!!....Itsa $6.50"

So many people have trouble just being a reasonable member of society. Can't believe there are non-schtick "no" votes. You guys should never eat out again, and just let the garbage pile up in your ####### yurts. Primitives.

The last time I was there I did see someone eat and run but did notice 2 singles were left of the table.

Never been to a counter service place where you pay after you eat. You order, pay, eat, throw away your garbage, and leave.

We clear our table and wipe it down if at all possible. Leave it like we would like to find it. And we don't care if everyone else does it or not. That's the standard by which we live, #######it.

I always pay when I order at places like that.

i voted no because the question is confusing. virtually all of the pizza and chinese restaurants around me are sit down places they bring the food and clear the tables, so I tip and leave.

Steps 1 and 3 should usually be combined

And by "we" you mean the bride servant you purchased from China right?

Interesting. In my area, pizza places are either counter service where you are called up for your meal, or full Italian restaurants with hostesses, bus boys and servers.

And I've never eaten in a chinese place, unless it was a buffet. Most chinese places are built for pick-up/take-out/delivery where I come from with maybe one ####ty table out front to sit at while you wait for your food, at best.

Have a place like that near me. Its generally busy at this place and limited seating. I tend to give someone a nasty look if they start to walk away without dropping their waste off in the garbage cans. Not only are they doing a disservice to the staff, but seating is so scarce that the person who wants to sit down will need to clean off the table. Its just rude.
