No, I said, "he gets overpraised because he was such a critics darling," which was more about praise than actual popularity since not every artist that is popular gets praised a lot (see: Nickelback).
The topic of the thread is "Do you like Elvis Costello's Music?", and that was your response. I'm not going to discuss a disingenuous take.

Also - I showed you three other examples - it's fine if some one does not like an artist/band, but it's uniformed and a bit insulting when those people then try to make up reasons (in a derogatory manner) why some one else does - because its so inconceivable to them that some one could possibly like something they don't.

There’s a lot of music fans out there and most musicians have their fare share of fans for many different reasons and while some of those things may have been true at the beginning- at our age people just like what they like. It’s not about “street cred”.

Not sure how to vote I know who he is but not sure ive ever heard one of his songs

Like if somebody stopped me on the street and offered me $100 to sing my favorite lyric or name a song I’d leave empty handed

Well, I agree there. The idea of "street cred" or "being cool" when it comes to music and what we like seems absurd to me, given that we aren't teenagers anymore, haha. That is why I always thumb my nose at the idea of any artist being a guilty pleasure. I like what I like. You like what you like.

I consider overly simplistic, algorithm-driven pop music that I like a guilty pleasure. It's not because I'm trying to be cool, it's because I know I'm being manipulated with simple universals for profit in a medium that I value more than the market. Hence the guilty pleasure.
