Does Belicheck retire? (1 Viewer)

Voice Of Reason

Footballguy
After this loss, does anyone else think that Belicheck is going to retire?

With spygate, rumors of filimg opponents practices, running up the score on teams this year, and general disrespect he's shown to the rest of the league, I think he's created too many enemies to return.

The Pats are not going to be as strong as they were this year again, and I think a lot of the league is going to take pleasure in kicking the Pats whenever they are down. Are teams not going to want to run the score up on them, or do whatever they want to show up or embarrass Belicheck's Pats team after what they did this season? And if so, could Belicheck's ego take it?

I prefer to speculate that there is actually a tape of the Rams walk through, that the league didn't look hard for it but wasn't active in covering it up, and that the tape being revealed leads to BB and anyone else who covered it up being banned for life.

I think it more likely that BB stops coaching but retains a position of power with the Patriots than him voluntarily walking totally away.

I think he is a good coach but he has been over rated. For a tuck rule here, an amazing kick there... they would not have had near the success they have had. This year they managed to stay healthy and get breaks in close games. An under rated O-line has made Brady and Belicheck look a lot better than I think they really are. Not saying that Brady is not a great QB and Belicheck is not a good coach but they have been put on Mount Olympus next to other gods. I am not trying to take away their accomplishment from this year. They won a right to be in the talk of 'best teams of all time' by their exceptional run but I think too many people got way carried away from the hype.

All that said, I do not see Belicheck not coming back next year. His ego is way too much of a driver for him to not come back to 'make it right' next year.

On the other hand, a couple of breaks in super bowl 32, or in the 98 AFC title game, or a stop against the Colts in the AFC title game a year ago, and Belichick might have 2-3 more rings. In other words, your argument cuts both ways. You can't just assume the absolute worst scenario for his career.

I can't see Belichick retiring. He has been breaking down game film since he was a kid. If anyone is a lifer, he is. I expect him to coach until he dies.

He won't retire...no way...his ego won't allow walking off after this tremendous defeat...no way does he give the Giants or the NFL that satisfaction...we'll have to drag his decrepit corpse away from the game...much like Al Davis.

How can you see him retiring? If anything, they'll want it a million times more next year.
Don't know if that's true. Randy Moss openly questioned whether they'll be able to play with the same week to week intensity next year that they played with this year when he met with the media after the game.

Losing early next year will help them. A 12-4 or 13-3 Patriots team next year is not something other teams should relish facing in the playoffs if that happens. This year was something surreal. They weren't just being compared to their opponents; they were being compared to every team in NFL hsitory. They weren't just tyring to win the Super Bowl; they were trying to be perfect. next year, with just one goal and less pressure, I think they play better down the stretch.

I think nearly everyone would agree that the Patriots were not playing their best in the final 4-5 games. In fact, they clearly peaked early in the year when in 9 of their first 10 games the margin of victory was 17 points or more (exception being the Colts). Of the Patriots final nine games, only wins over the Steelers and Dolphins were greater than 11 points.Sure, the quality of opponent improved given the playoffs, with their final four games being against playoff teams. Still, this causes me to wonder if in the end, the whole "spygate" thing really did them in over the long haul. Were they so interested in sending the message to the rest of the league early that they peaked too soon? Or was it just the pressure and media deluge slowly wearing them down? Or did teams slowly learn how to defend the offense and exploit the defense?I'd like it to be connected to their hubris in attempting to run roughshod over the league, but likely it was a combination of all three.

I don't think BB retires

Troy Brown done(little play, well respected guy though)

Seau- probably done

Bruschi, unsure, lean toward guessing he retires

Stallworth-never makes what his contract for 08 is, re-works it or walks

Kyle Brady-unsure how much more he has left, the TE/T got oWned by Osi last night

Harrison-can't play forever, wonder when he retires

Samuel-wants to test FA waters to see what he could get.

Moss-FA that has thoroughly enjoyed his time in NE and may return

Significant offseason especially for BB replacing his beloved LBers. Challenge will stir him up.

This is the all-time most stupid thread I've seen the The Shark Pool.

Belichick retires because they lose a Super Bowl?

I think you can take the 'probably' out next to Seau.

I could see a better argument for his retiring had they won (although that too would've been a long shot). He'll be more motivated than ever to win another SB; a guy like Belichick wants to be remembered as the best coach ever, and now he's a couple titles away from that happening.

From what little I have read about his personal time there really isn't much else for him to do. Coaching is his life.

Besides sending Fed Ex boxes filled with cash to married female employees - coaching is his life. Seems that the guy is as much of a tool in his personal life as he is on the field.

I am not saying I think he is going to retire because he lost the SB.

Can he really spend an entire season disrespecting the rest of the league and come back next season with a weaker team where a lot of teams are waiting to kick him whenever he is down.

I think his ego makes him think he can make the team better next year.

BB won't retire -- though he might not be coaching next season !

IF it is proven that he was taping the Rams before the superbowl I would suspect either a season long ban or a lifetime ban on him from the NFL. Though i think if it came to that there would be a back room deal where belichick would retire on his on accord ( after being told retire or be banned ) .

I think alot has to do with the senate committe findings.

:goodposting: But I think the back door retire or be banned is a horrible way to go. If you go after the bad apples like Pacman for damaging the game then you need to go after a flat out cheater like Belicheck for really damaging the integrity of the game.

Do you honestly think any team the Patriots play needs motivation to beat them? And who says next year's team is going to be weaker? They won't have as good a record, but they'll be considered the AFC favorites again, almost assuredly.
