Does Favre playing helpr or hurt APs production this year? (1 Viewer)

With all the discusion about Favre coming back to play I am curious on everyone's opinon on what him being under center will do for AP's prodcution. AP slipped last year & a lot of people say it was because MIN threw the ball more in situations where they would normally go to AP. DO you think that will stay the same this year or will having Favre back (and Chester Taylor gone) help AP's production go back up to where he has traditionally been? I know he is currently ranked 2nd on redraft boards but thereare definitely grumblings about him being more like the 3rd or 4th best RB available for redraft leagues

So what say the masses?

I'll say it helps his production. Favre helps them move the ball leading to more scoring opportunities, thus ADP's career high 18 td's last year. Yes, he ran the ball fewer times last year for a lower average, but he also doubled his receiving totals from 21 to 43. With Taylor gone this year, we may even see those receiving numbers go up (Taylor caught 44 passes LY so it's reasonable to think a good chunk of those could go Peterson's way).

On a total yards gained basis he only had 66 fewer yards than the year before despite having 27 fewer touches.

What rational person thinks that? No one that pays any attention to football could possibly think that.Peterson's production slipped last year because Minnesota went from having one of the top run blocking lines in the league to having one of the worst in the league. It was not because they were throwing more, and it was not because Peterson was "wearing down" (which is even more frustrating that people believe that).

Peterson maintained his elite FF status last year for two reasons. Firstly, because he is an uberstud that was still able to maintain a reasonable ypc in spite of a horrid run blocking line (the same line that Chester Taylor, whom most consider a solid running back, could barely manage 3ypc behind), and secondly because the Minnesota offense provided so many scoring opportunities. Peterson was tops in the league last year in goaline TDs and goaline opportunities.

If Favre plays well it helps Peterson immensely. I don't see how anyone can believe otherwise.

More yards, less short TDs. Favre will steal at least 4-6 TD's for 5 yards or less.
Adrian Peterson had 30 goaline rushes and 14 goaline TDs with Favre. He had 9 goaline rushes and 5 goaline TDs in 2008, and 3 goaline rushes with 2 goaline TDs in 2007, with other quarterbacks.Favre "stealing" 4-6 goaline TDs is completely dwarfed by the fact that Favre is helping them to run 4x as many goaline plays. That's not hyperbole, those are real numbers.

That doesn't mean Favre isn't stealing Peterson TDs. He is. They just get down there more than if some hack was in at QB. Make no mistake, Favre is taking Peterson TD's away from him. Favre took 9 TD's from Peterson (inside 5 yards) last year. Over 15 from inside 10.Answer this. Ball at the 2 yard line. What do you do? ....................Favre says wrong answer. That's a pass play.

So, Favre stealing TDs that ADP wouldn't have a chance for without Favre still counts as Favre stealing TDs? ADP with Favre scores more TDs that ADP without Favre. Period. The fact that Favre throws more short TDs that otherwise would be a rush attempt for Peterson is true, but completely outweighed by the fact that Favre gives the Vikes far more short TD opportunities than they would otherwise have.

That's not what you said before, nor do I see how it is in any way relevant to the discussion here. Favre "stealing" more TDs than the other QBs doesn't matter when he's also helping set up a whole lot more than he's stealing. You explicitly said that Peterson would have fewer short TDs with Favre. That's nuts. Peterson had twice as many short TDs last year with Favre as he did in his first two years COMBINED with other QBs. Two in 2007, five in 2008, FOURTEEN in 2009.55 minus 9 is a much larger number than 15 minus 4. I'm not sure how that's debateable. And realistically, even the percentages aren't that different when you actually look at it (IE the Vikings' run/pass ration was basically the same inside the 5 in 2007/2008 as they did in 2009).

How many times do the Vikings see the goal line without Favre? True, he might steal some, but in reality they'll be down there twice as many times with him.

Hurts production.Helps longevity
'Wrong answer. Read FreeGel again. Great numbers postAnyways with Brett in lineup, Peterson faces 7 man fronts and thus gets more out of each of his carries. Helps overall production IMO by a ton because of the TD and the yards being relatively the same with better YPC but a few less carries which helps his longevity. But the catches makes up for the carries anyways. Not even close how good this is for him

If you are making $75k and someone comes along and says " I can MAKE you earn $150k, but will take $25k from your earnings" are you in a worse spot than when you were making $75k?Favre says wrong answer. That's a pass play.
