Does Minn not going hard after V. Jackson mean Rice will be back soon? (1 Viewer)

Is there anyone else out there who thinks that by the Vikings not going hard after Vincent Jackson at the trade deadline they are indicating that Sidney Rice may be making better progress than originally thought?

Maybe the Vikings feel that it isn't worth giving up high draft choices to get Jackson in wee 5 when Rice will be ready in week 8? Even if the Vikings were to have signed Jackson what is to say he would learn the system and have any chemistry with Favre.

In an interview this week Rice said that he is looking at a return in week 8 vs the Patriots. He is off his crutches and starting his rehab.

Just a thought.

:homer:

All indications are that the Vikings did go hard, but wouldn't cross the line into their perception of "unreasonable". Doesn't mean Rice won't play later this season, but not ultimately getting VJ has nothing to do with Rice's situation.

I live in MN ... all the "plugged in" reporters around here were saying the Vikings were going hard for VJax ... partially because they are not sure that Rice will be immediately effective when he comes back ... and they aren't sure when that even will be

It means AJ is a mean son of a gun... and thats about it.
He's not being mean if he doesn't feel he is getting value for a quality player who is under contract to his team.
He chose a conditional third-round pick in 2012 (assuming compensatory picks are part of the next CBA) over a second-round pick in 2011. How was that better value?
Exactly. It was hardball from a hard nosed man. It wasn't what was best for his team.

I'll be interested to see how that eff you performs on the field and whether it helps the Chargers improve and get to the Super Bowl.

We all know it won't help them... I am just surprised AJ can do this with no flack from ownership...

I know they are called "3rd round picks", but they happen after 32 3rd round picks. To me, that makes it a 4th rounder. AJ is a jackass.

I agree. And I meant to say "compensatory" third-round pick in 2012, not conditional. The conditional pick the Vikings were offering would have been if they had signed Jackson to a long-term contract. It really is a difficult move to comprehend by the Chargers. It doesn't make a bit of sense beyond them wanting to stick it to Jackson. And that shouldn't be the focal point of their decision making.

If it's coming from a Packers fan who just saw his biggest divisional rival denied a major weapon as a result of Smith's pettiness, you know it must be true. For what it's worth, I agree with you 100%. I fail to see how A.J. Smith improved the Chargers, here.

And by that time they will be out of the PO race and their QB will be thinking hard about retiring.

I am more surprised that he can do this with so little flack from Charger FANS. In the Vincent Jackson thread, most of them are singing AJ's praises.

It means Hank Baskett is the 2nd coming of Randy Moss. And Kendra will throw Playboy bunny parties for Brett Favre and AP.

See I am not surprised he didn't send him to MN ... I thought he was spiteful enough to not send Jackson to a good situation. I am somewhat surprised that he didn't take any offer that say STL or Seattle threw at him. Although, this does have some traces of "Jackson would only work out a real deal with MN" on it.
