I understand that Pittsburgh leads its division, but do they have to win to clinch? Wondering if there is any benefit to playing Steelers this week or are they going to just coast?
Thanks. It can get complicated.
BusterTBronco said:You're right. The Steelers got nothing to play for. The fact that they are TIED with Cleveland for the division lead with two games to go means nothing. Everybody know the Steelers got the division wrapped up! I expect Roethlisberger will only play 'bout two quarters and FWP might go for a couple of series. My advice to you: bench all your Steelers.
Pittsburgh doesn't even have a playoff spot clinched yet, of course they have incentive to win this week....
So, there is reason for Pittsburgh to keep winning as they could still lose the division title and end up being a wild card.
Anybody have a different take other than this or concur with this?
...
You mean other than the fact that if they lose out and 1 of 3 other teams win out...they miss the playoffs entirely? Nope, you're math is correct, they got nothign to play for. Please bench all your Stillers.Edit: Nope, checked my own math. Thought for sure TEN had the tie breaker, but don't think that's true (TEN has to win out, and PIT lose out). They don't have Pit locked into a playoff spot, but I'm not seeing how with a 5-0 Division record and a 7-4 Conference record they can be bounced from the WC? For some reason I thought they were still in jeopardy from BUF and HOU as well?? Anyone see how either of those teams is still alive? After analyzing the division record, here's what I found:
1. Pittsburgh and Cleveland have the same record at 9-5.
2. Pittsburgh has not clinched its division yet.
2. Pittsburgh beat Cleveland twice--so I guess they have the tiebreaker if it came to that.
So, there is reason for Pittsburgh to keep winning as they could still lose the division title and end up being a wild card.

This could be true but how many FWP owners are still left??FWP's gonna lead alot of people to titles this weekend. These guys are just looking to beat up on someone right now. Having a nice, warm dome to do it in will make it all the "Merry"ier.Good luck, Steelers' owners.
God, I hope so. I have been sticking with Willie week in and week out, and am sticking with him again tomorrow night. I hope he has a big game. I know the Ram defense is pretty stout against the run, but am hoping he can crack the century mark again.FWP's gonna lead alot of people to titles this weekend. He has been benched in favor of Tyrone Carter this week. 'bout time.Q: Anything to play for?A: More in-game reps for Anthony Smith before the playoffs.

HOU and BUF are eliminated. The only way Pitt doesn't make the playoffs is if they lose out, Cleve wins at least 1 of 2 and Tennessee wins out. Pitt has the tie-breaker on Cleve and Tennessee.IndyHavoc said:You mean other than the fact that if they lose out and 1 of 3 other teams win out...they miss the playoffs entirely? I'll agree with the bolded above, but when they are on their game, they can play with anyone in the AFC, and that includes the Pats.redman said:I'd liken the Steelers in the AFC to the Giants in the NFC. They're both clearly a second tier team within their conference and they've been remarkable more for inconsistency than anything else. True, the Steelers are more secure in their playoff fortunes than are the Giants, but I think both need to play better football to feel some sense of momentum in the playoffs.
If they win out, everyone in Pittsburgh gets a free bottle of Heinz Ketchup, so they have that going for them.
I have Will Witherspoon in an IDP league. I don't care if he's tackling FWP 6 yards past the LOS, as long as he's tackling FWP. I hope the Steelers ride FWP this weekend. Then I guess I'm riding Witherspoon to a title.FWP's gonna lead alot of people to titles this weekend. These guys are just looking to beat up on someone right now. Is that river in Cleveland still burning? If they win out, everyone in Pittsburgh gets a free bottle of Heinz Ketchup, so they have that going for them.
