Does Revis cover Wallace or Ward this week? (1 Viewer)

Revis was on Sanders for about 75% or more of the snaps, the announcers also said at the start of the game, Revis will be covering Sanders due to a "sore hammy". Revis is a great player, definitely ONE of the best in the league today, but the way you talk about him, you make most non Jet fans hate the guy. Just like Bronco fans used to do with Champ, if we are on these boards then we probably watch a lot of football and we all hear and see he is a great player. But you guys acting like he shuts down everyone completely by himself is ridiculous and when he gets burned it's a bad hammy or the safety was suppose to pick that guy up, but when anyone says he gets help, then we don't know what we are talking about.
Anyone who follows the Jets understands that he gets help..everyone does. But to intimate that Rhodes was the reason for success is jsut wrong. When healthy, he shuts down everyone. I don't know what else to say :moneybag:
Wrong. If Jets fans ever admitted he gets help, there would be none of these dumb threads. It's the fact that you list players he shut down and don't give credit to anyone else for helping him that dives non-Jets fans crazy. Comparing him to the greatest DB's of all time, asking how he would do against Jerry Rice, etc, that's what's ridiculous and anoying. And I don't care who called it "Revis Island" first, it's the media that hypes it. Did the WR who called it that create a Nike commercial for it?He covered the third best receiver on the Steelers yesterday and he still had 78 yards against God Jr. 3rd and 24, in the last minute of the game, Big Ben hits his receiver for 29 and a first down. Who was covering that receiver, and who could have tackled him short of the first down? Your man Revis, that's who. But you can go on thinking he's the greatest DB that ever lived. Keep complaining when he loses out to better backs in the MVP voting. It's really ok to know he's a great player, but for some reason that's not good enough for Jets fans.
Profootballfocus was a great resource, I wish it was still a free service because it would answer your retorts more definitively. After watching every snap yesterday, I can safely say that Revis was not covering one person, though he did spend more time away from Wallace. If you check the game thread, I posted at the time that Revis missed a tackle. Whether you want to admit it or not, he's the best corner in the league right now. More specifically, he is one of the top five tackling corners in the league, and is at the top of the list in terms of jamming and covering. No one is not giving credit to the Jets defensive unit, but it's obvious the safeties are the weakest link in the Jets defense (moreso without Jim L), and their lack of a true pass rushing end. If listing last year's list doesn't prove a point, I can list them for this year? Including probably the most gifted WR in the game, Calvin Johnson. He had help, no doubt. But every team helps their corners when facing Calvin, but Revis is the constant. I don't know why you think he gets all this help, it's simply not true. Of course he gtes some help, but again, to intimate he isn't man up more often then not is simply not udnerstanding the Jets defensive schemes. You can't blitz as much as they do and not play Revis alone more often than not. Being a great player is perfectly fine for Jets fans. I just happen to think that when it is all said and done, he will be more than just a great Jet.

Well said. I'm sure most of the people who bash Revis will see this as me being a homer, but on the 3rd and 24 play, Revis wasn't on Sanders. It was a busted coverage and Revis was the only person who realized it, so he was the first person to get there, and then he missed the tackle, which was his fault. Here is a picture of the formation, Sanders is to the left of the QB, Revis is all the way to the right. Although if you want to watch a clip of Revis actually assigned to guard Sanders, this would be a good one.

You do realize you showed a video clip of Revis getting away with a blatant push, right? Is that what you are calling great coverage?

He did get there a tad early, but it happens. The game wasn't exactly the best officiated game. But to his bigger point about yesterday's game - Revis was all over the field, and not just on Sanders as alluded to earlier. I think we've :bag: and I doubt many people want to read any more. So on that, thanks for the banter, it's always nice to pass the time at work

As I mentioned earlier (and someone else verified), he was on Sanders most of the game. I would say close to 75% of the time. He covered Redman, Brown, and Wallace the remaining 25% of the time. I do not recall seeing him on Ward. And on the plays where he covered Redman, it was clear the Steelers were trying to take him out of the play. It didn't work because the Jets other DBs did a good job on the WRs, forcing Ben to throw to Spaeth who had 5 drops by my count.
