Dolphins fire GM Randy Mueller (1 Viewer)

per ESPNEWSThis was expected. Is Ron Wolf next in Miami?
He always has the right to change his mind of course, but Wolf has said every time he's been courted for a GM job over the last decade that he doesn't want to return to a full time position in any front office. I'd figure he's there as an advisor to Parcells, and that's it.

Interesting that Cam Cameron wasn't...I wonder if Bill is at least giving him a chance to stick around. I HIGHLY doubt it, but maybe he wants to talk to Cam whereas it didn't take a genius to see that Mueller was, at best, below par at his job.

I'd suspect Bill wants to talk to the players about Cameron and probably to meet with Cameron himself to discuss things before he makes any decision there. If he's lost the players, or if Bill concludes he can't work with him, then he's gone. The last game was only yesterday, though, so Cameron hasn't had the time to have this sort of discussion yet.

They are supposedly meeting tomorrow, after which I assume he'll be fired.

If Cameron is fired, anyone want to bet against me that Bill hires a coach before he hires a GM, just to clearly indicate who's in control there?(Oh, and will that coach buy his own groceries? )

I'd actually take that bet.

Cowboys Ireland emerging as candidate

Bill Parcells is wasting no time in reworking the Dolphins front office. Shortly after firing GM Randy Mueller and a pair of his assistants, Parcells received permission from the Cowboys to interview Jeff Ireland to be the team's new GM, FOXSports.com has learned.

Dolphins sources say that Ireland, the Cowboys VP of College and Pro Scouting, is expected to interview for the job tomorrow.

FOX Sports first reported the week of Parcells' hiring that Ireland would be his primary target, but there was a question about whether he could get him out before the draft. However, to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' credit, he granted permission for the interview despite having Ireland locked up contractually through the draft.

It's expected that Parcells will offer Ireland the job and equally as expected that Ireland accepts.

Parcells met with players this morning and told some that he was firing Mueller but was not sure about head coach Cam Cameron's fate. However, it would be surprising if Cameron survives the purge.

Isn't there a rule in the NFL that allows any assistant to view for a position that would represent a promotion even if they're under contract (and therefore without the permission of the team)?

Interesting that Parcells would not fire Cameron at the same time if he were to do it...He meets with Parcells on Tuesday. Parcells wants "people with passion" on his team...I'm not sure Cameron meets that criterion.

:(That makes no sense. Cameron's not going to resign and void a guaranteed contract. He's also not going to voluntarily walk from his first NFL head coaching job after only one season. This is up to Parcells. Personally, I think Cameron's a goner. This isn't like San Diego's firing of Schotty last year. Parcells already knows he's got a major rebuilding project, so he may as well have his coach from day 1.

I'm pretty sure you're right, but the thought was that Jones would try to say that Ireland wouldn't really have final say with Parcells there. It's been reported that Parcells' contract specifically mentions he doesn't have final say and that those duties fall to a GM, but many people think that despite what the contract says that Parcells holds the power.

Assistants can interview during playoff bye weeks, I believe.

Cam had that O-line working well, Ronnie Brown was headed for a Pro Bowl season if he didn't get hurt..the defense is WAY too old at this stage, and needs to be completely revamped. The have the speed at the WR position in Ginn, and a strong armed QB in Beck ( although I think they'll draft a QB in April)...so maybe there is enough there to leave Cam in as HC for another season...on the other side, maybe Parcells is waiting until the playoffs are finished before he talks to coaches on teams that are playing in the post season, not sure if that would be tampering or not to talk to guys before the post-season is over..Mueller deserved to be fired, he was clueless...
