Dolphins @ Jets - Week 17 - 12/28 (1 Viewer)

=Smackdown=

Footballguy
I think we find out today if this game is going to be Flexed to Sunday night on 12/28.

Next week . . .

Dolphins @ KC

Jets @ Seattle

Regardless of next week it looks like the AFC East will come down to the final week - with the Pats still having an outside chance.

Castoff Pennington returns to NY up against Favre - winner takes the division and the loser goes home.

There's a decent chance the winner doesn't take the division; both teams could win in week 17 and miss the playoffs. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

It's 2 weeks away and I'm nervous and pumped for this game already. For New England to win the division they would have to beat the Cardinals and Bills the next 2 weeks and Miami & New York would both have to lose next week - so I guess the possibility is definitely there.

Does this mean the Jets looking for a bye thread is dead?
BTW . . . . who started that silly thread?I still can't believe the Dolphins are 9-5 !

Here's an interesting stat and a big reason the Dolphins are where they are . . .

The Dolphins had zero turnovers in their win over the 49ers. With just 10 turnovers lost this season, they have the fewest turnovers through a team's first 14 games in NFL history. The 2007 Patriots had 11 turnovers through 14 games.

Also interesting that the Parcells coached Giants ('90) hold the record for least turnovers in a season - 14

If the Jets or Dolphins lose next week then win in week 17, the Pats are the AFC East winner, assuming the Pats win the next two. I could easily see the Jets losing yet another west coast game, then beating the Phins the final game to give the Pats the division...

HELLO . . . . . . Jason Taylor !

Left town cause you wanted to play for a winner . . . how is that working out for you?

Chad Pennington for MVP and comeback player of the year.

combine that with the Brett the turnover machine and the Jets sievelike defense against the run and this game won't be closeBTW . . . . who started that silly thread?

As a Jets fan, I would be happy to see Miami actually come up and make a game out of it, considering that they have been gracious enough to lose 17 out of the last 21 games. I thought rivalry was a term reserved for series where both teams won their fair share.

Do playoff games count toward a rivalry?Let me ask my buddy A.J. DUHE what he thinks.

;) There we go - I knew you Jets fans were still around.Pennington going into NY and beating the Jets for a playoff spot would make up for that silly little streak. Dontcha think?

A term that only a Fins fan would create. Or believe.

IMO Jets @ Hawks next week will decide it between the Jets and Pats.

Preseason expectations sure do a lot for public perception. The Jets have been ripped pretty good for almost blowing that game yesterday, but Miami has been hanging by a thread against bad teams (many at home) for several weeks and nobody really blinks.

I only have one question for you if you'd be so kind . . . On the scale of Jets disappointments how bad would losing to Pennington be on 12/28 for a playoff spot?

I'm thinking worst of all time but I anxiously await your repsonse.

I predict Pats/Jets/Phins all win next week. The Pats win in Baffalo and the Jets/Phins play in OT and end with a tie. Pats win the division.

The Fins havent given up a TD in 3 games.Thats silly. They came away with W's against all of those "bad teams", and the W's are what count. The Jets have lost games to some of those same bad teams you are referencing.

Remember how envious you were of Bills fans when they were sweeping the Fish, not making the playoffs, and getting lower draft picks in '07, '06, and '04?Yeah that's kinda how I feel right now. Have fun watching 8 teams not named Miami play on wildcard weekend. At least ya got message board bragging rights though!

Why so much hate for the Fins?As a Dolphins fan I am by no means a fan of Buffalo, but they are a distant 3rd on the hate-o-meter behind the Pats and Jets. Very, very distant. This team was 1-15 last year, and has a legitimate shot to finish a 3 seed the very next year. Thats good stuff - no matter who you pull for.

Um, okay.Truth is that we do not suck anymore. Are we a great team, no, but we have a shot to win the division with 2 weeks to go. We haven't had that since Dave W and the pre-pot RW teams.Miami's Offense needs to muster a little more this week and next, b/c I do not see us continuing the TDless streak for another 8 quarters.Remember, it took a favre 4th and forever to beat us in week 1, and that is before the O and D got better (although the jets have gotten better since as well).

No way would that come near the Denver Championship game in 1998.... Or the previously mentioned AJ Duhe game.

Jets smelled the Super Bowl, that was Parcells shot right there and the game started off so well....

IMO, Dissapointment as an NFL fan is a relative term... I can only be as dissapointed as far as I think the team can go... In 1998 The Jets could have won it all and it was all right there.

This Team???? Uggh, while I was optimistic all year and saw it as an opportunity to jell and improve as the season went on, I just don't have a lot of confidence in beating a Ravens, Denver, Steeler or Titans team (again)....

Honestly, I get the Chad thing and how it would be spun but, IMO, not making the playoffs after those Tenn and Pat wins would blow no matter who the opponent. I think Jets fans already stared reality in the face late in the 4th quarter yesterday and it wasn't pretty.

IMO, the dissapointment is more in how this team is playing, especially defensively than any rivals or opponents.

As for Jets fans being around... There's only a few of us and IMO it's a pretty good group of fans that are pretty realistic.... Maybe you're looking for Jets fans who act more like certain other fans????

Enjoy your draft prep for '09.

Appreciate the response Reaper - and although I've always despised the Jets and everything green I have also had much respect for Jets fans. Hard to find a more resilient and loyal bunch. In all honesty I don't see the Dolphins going into NY Week 17 and winning - the simple fact that they're still alive at this point in the season is cause for celebration that the team is finally headed in the right direction.

I think the Jets are the slightly better team and think they've got a nice sized HFA over Miami.

That said, if Miami won, it wouldn't be that disappointing; I can't think of a team I'd rather make the playoffs over the Jets. I'm very happy Pennington's having such a great season and I hope he keeps it up. He was all class in New York and did everything you could ever want a guy with a weak arm to do. He always shouldered too much criticism and never received enough credit.

The absolute worst would be a Jets loss to Seattle, setting up a scenario where if the Jets lose to Miami the Dolphins make the playoffs but if the Jets beat Miami the Patriots make the playoffs. I think I might implode.

Not sure how the chronology of this thread is so hard to follow? I offered my honest opinion as I would any other division. You don't have to agree - that's cool. Don't make me out to be the troll because my screen name happened to induce a Junior High cheapshot. I like the way Parcells is building that team from the inside out (certain GM's think it's a good idea to do the opposite). I suppose they're a nice story as they were in Saban's first year. I just don't think they're good enough to close with 2 straight road wins. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd be happy to wager on it.

Can we all agree that everyone here is hoping for two Baltimore losses to end the season? Them losing next week at Dallas is actually quite likely and you never know what Jax will do.

My responses are exactly what Reaper and Chase have already responded with, so I won't bother to type them again. I would rather it be Miami than NE if it came down to that. After the way the whole Spygate thing was handled, if the Cheatriots never make the playoffs again it will be too soon for my liking.

No team would ever completely throw a game, but the temptation would be huge.

I hope the Phins can pull it off. But I will be very proud of them win, lose or Donovan.

Dolphins have had a great year, but the Jets win. Thus causing the unthinkable, the Patriots make the playoffs.

If they beat the Bills, the Patriots will be 11-5,certainly playoff worthy.Unlike the Chargers or Broncos.
