Dolphins say they are out of the Trent Green talks (1 Viewer)

I think this is a mistake for the Dolphins. Either you go with Cleo Lemon or you go with a younger guy you draft pickup or trade for. Green is not a good idea at all. If they give up a 5th round pick and he costs barely anything that is somewhat OK, but unless Culpepper can never run again, I would rather go with him and Lemon than Green and Lemon.
With Green at QB, they're practically guaranteed a play-off birth (if he stays healthy).
You lose your fantasy GM card. If you go with Lemon or a rookie, then you are in instant rebulding mode with no hope of making the playoffs. Culpepper is done and that was obvious to everyone, but Saban when they acquired him. Go with the veteran in Green and draft a talented rookie to watch and learn for a year or two.

Agreed, this is a bit out there, but I think they reach and take olsen from miami with the 1.09, or maybe trade out to the 1.12. If Olsen is on the board at 1.13 the Panthers will take him. Olsen plays very similar to Gates and will enable Cameron to run a very similar offense to what he ran in san diego. While Ronnie is no LT2, the I beleive the dolphins receivers are better. With the 2- 2nd round picks, they can take o-line.All this goes away if Quinn is there at 1.09.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Trent Green is expected to be acquired by the Dolphins this week.

Miami is expected to send a second-day draft pick for the veteran, who would become the immediate favorite to start. Daunte Culpepper would then be expected to be released, although we wonder if his injury will make that more complicated.

It shouldn't be much longer until quarterback Trent Green joins the Dolphins. A source said Saturday the Dolphins are set to make another run at acquiring Green from Kansas City and a trade should be completed this week. The Dolphins and Chiefs were far apart in negotiations last month, but Green's desire to play in South Florida will likely push Kansas City to finalize a deal for a second-day pick in the April 28-29 draft. Green essentially controls his destiny, as he can scuttle virtually any trade by refusing to restructure a contract that calls for a 2007 base salary of $7.2 million. The Dolphins and Green already have reached agreement on parameters of a new contract.

The addition of Green would likely spell the end of quarterback Daunte Culpepper's tenure with the Dolphins. Culpepper, who is due to earn $5.5 million this season, didn't receive medical clearance to participate in this weekend's minicamp because of ongoing problems with his right knee. If Culpepper were released or traded, Green would battle Cleo Lemon for the starting spot, although Dolphins General Manager Randy Mueller has said he hopes to draft a quarterback.

He's always been a class act, best of luck in Miami.

I couldn't disagree more.If you are planning on drafting a QB then Green is the perfect stop-gap solution until the young QB is ready, especially if you don't plan on spending a high pick for the young QB. If they draft a guy like Kevin Kolb(interestingly Bloom predicts this in his 7 round mock... and Bloom knows things) or John Beck they won't be ready until Green is ready to retire anyway. Lemon is the perfect compliment in that he's already practiced in Cameron's offense and has been in the league for a few years so he can push the rook for the #2 job.I like just about every move MIA has made lately and the best was signing Cameron. MIA fans will be sayin' "Saban who?" within two years.

I'm saying "Saban Who?" after 2 months !!!!!!

I guess my take is that Green is one hit away from retirement and what happens when he gets injured? The OL is a weak link and a fragile QB who had a terrible concussion is more prone to injuries. Also, and I know I am in the minority, I think Culpepper is a very good QB if he can run (even is less than his prime). he always completes 60% of his passes and has a cannon arm. I know he isn't cleared yet, but if this guy has the ability to get healthy (they know more than I do here), they should keep him. They also felt that Lemon was a good player and he is not a young rookie (I believe he is 28 this year).Again, if and I guess it is a big if, Culpy is healthy he is a good starting QB in the NFL.

Culpepper without legs = david carr, who completed 68% of his passes last seasonI couldn't disagree more.If you are planning on drafting a QB then Green is the perfect stop-gap solution until the young QB is ready, especially if you don't plan on spending a high pick for the young QB. It seems relatively clear to me (especially after just hearing Schefter on FOX Sports Radio) that Green will be a Dolphin next year and Culpepper will be an ex-Dolphin. The two questions that arise from this situation:

1) Does Miami attempt to trade up for either Russell or Quinn (more likely the latter) or do they take BPA in round one and draft their highest-rated second tier QB later on day one?

2) Where does Culpepper end up, and how long does it take him to get healthy? (FYI, they're talking about C-Pep going to Cleveland on Sirius NFL Radio right now)

It's true that if Green gets his bell rung again he's probably done but you can just as easily say the same thing about Culpepper and his knee. What happens if either were to get injured? Depends on when that happens. If it happened this season I think Lemon steps in as a stop gap until near the end of the season and if they are out of playoff contention they may give a young guy a chance to get some playing time. If the injury happened next season I think they let the young guy have a shot and if it turns out the young guy isn't ready they turn things over to Lemon. I don't think either Green or Culpepper are the long term solution at QB for MIA. We've already seen the best of both of them and they have already started to decline quickly.

Not sure what happens if russell or quinn fall to them, but I think they are looking at their late 2nd (new england's) pick or early third to take a QB. Use the first 2 rounds on O and D line, then go QB and maybe another O Lineman?

Evidently KC is still talking too high. http://www.kansascity.com/159/story/73140.html

Personally if Miami can't get him for a second day pick I would be fine with a Culpepper/ Lemon/ Kolb type of cluster#### going into camp. Miami needs to keep both second round picks so that they can add youth and talent, which is much more important than a slight improvement in QB.

I guess I understand that KC is in no rush, but geez, who do they think they are fooling?
I thought the same thing about TEN/McNair last year but in the end they played it just right. All BAL had to do was wait a few weeks and they could have had McNair for nothing but they gave a day 1 pick just because "they had so many". Didn't make any sense to me. Wait until the day of the draft and some guy falls there will be plenty of people on the phone willing to part with a pick next year.
