Donald Brown (1 Viewer)

This is all I've heard this week.Monday October 25th

Colts RB Donald Brown rested on Monday as the rest of the team prepared for their Week 8 showdown with the Texans. Brown has missed several weeks with an undisclosed hamstring injury. If Brown could heal up, he could play a significant role against Houston as regular starter Joseph Addai is sidelined with a shoulder injury that involves nerve damage. Third-year back Mike Hart is in line to replace both men at running back if they are listed as inactive

I was under the impression under new NFL rules all teams had to report who practiced each day. Why then don't we know whether Brown practiced today?

I believe the Colts took Tuesday off from practice this week.
Great. I have Brown and Hart is on waivers which runs tonight. No room to carry both.
I have been wrong before, but I find it hard to believe that a hammy would keep Brown out another game. It has been four weeks now. McFadden had a hammy and was out one week; in the preseason McFadden missed three. Personally, I wouldn't drop Brown to pick up Hart. But you have to make that call yourself.

It all depends on if you are looking for long-term on a one-week play (and if you need to make the call tonight). If you need a one-week fill-in I think Hart is the player to get. If you are looking more long-term, Brown is your man. If you can wait a few days practice this week may give you more info.

 As an Addai and Brown owner, this is exactly how I read this situation.

I can't seem to find much info from Indy about this situation either. I thought Brown was going to be the play here, but with his ineffectiveness, issues with pass blocking and getting banged up, he is the farthest from being reliable. You would think the Colts would be more disappointed with Brown more-so than the Saints are with Pierre Thomas.

The colts do not practice until Thursday. So don't expect any updates today. They have today off. I am not near CPU, on my phone, but this is confirmed on twitter via colts beat reporters.

You have to believe that Brown is going to step up and take this opportunity. This is a potential "coming out party" for DB on Monday Night. I seriously doubt he'll let Mike Hart have all the action and put himself even further down the line unless he truly is hurt bad.

I owuldn't say he has been ineffective, he just hasn't had a shot. Also, the issues with pass blocking is a joke. Most young running backs struggle with that. The injury problem, now that is a concern..

:goodposting: And most young running backs don't block for Peyton Manning.

I still believe Donald Brown is a myth concocted by the government. I have seen no evidence that he actually exists.

Mark, you're alive! Man I haven't seen you on the board at all this season.I digress...Today should be an indicator of where Brown is and whether we might see him Monday night. If he gets any work in today in practice I would call it good progress (for a rare change) toward an appearance vs Houston on MNF.

:lmao: I thought it was just established a few posts above that they aren't practicing until Thursday.

They aren't. They had a light practice Monday (Brown didn't participate) and are off until tomorrow.

You've seen my record this season, nobody has any business listening to me. My new goal is to lead my division in points and not make the playoffs. :blackdot: I suspect RBBC with Hart getting the lionshare even if Brown goes, but Brown is probably available on a lot more waiver wires.

To quote Boilerdave's post from above: "Since the Colts play Monday night their main practice days this week will be Thursday and Friday."If you want to call this being definitive as it was "established above" feel free. Boilerdave's post never suggested anything other than their main practices were scheduled for tomorrow and Friday, and with all due respect to the OP I'm not really sure his statement establishes anything.

After a full week off the Colts will be doing something today. All that should be inferred from my post is it was too soon (as of yesterday) to know if DB was doing anything this week and that we should see what news shakes out of Indy today. Notice my post said "any work".

Do you think the Colts are really going to practice - do some work - for just two days after being off a week, missing Clark, missing Collie, missing Addai and facing a Houston team that handled them pretty thoroughly in Week One?

I say something happens in Indy today with football players with horseshoes on their gear getting some work in. Hopefully one of them is Donald Brown and we get some news.

Stay tuned.

They are off today per Polian.

Q: The players have Tuesday and Wednesday of this week off. Is that discombobulating at all?

A: No problem at all. In many ways, it's good. It gives the injured guys a chance to heal one more day. Because it's a night game, actually, a day and a half to heal. That's all to the good. We're used to playing Thursdays, Mondays, Saturdays, Sundays. It doesn't matter. We play all over the lot, anyway. So, that's fine.

hmph....i always thought that i made that word up.

I keep reading a lot about Hart possibly getting the GL carries.

May be a sneaky flex play this week.

Do you guys think Brown/Hart split this week?

I'm highly considering dropping JStew to pick up Hart.

Just waiting to hear confirmation that DWill isn't out.

It is a very real concern, whether most struggle with it or not. Try telling that to Tony Romo.

With the news of DeAngelo not practicing today, I probably need to grab either Hart or Brown for this week only. Who do you guys think is the better play in ppr?

Any news out of Indy on whether Brown is fully healthy?

This doesn't look good. From beat writer Phil Wilson on Twitter:

#Colts coach Caldwell also said RB Donald Brown, if he practices today, will be limited. That makes me think Brown won't be back Monday.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. If he practices at all its good news. This is the first practice of the week. They want to go slow and take it easy on that hammy so as not to cause any setbacks. They need him Monday. If he practices limited all week I think I'd feel pretty good.

I would think if you have a young, unproven guy shouldering the load on game day, you want him out there showing he can practice at full speed. With a veteran I'd agree that weekday practice isn't as crucial. But Brown is no veteran and could probably use the reps.

Especially since he's spent a lot of time hurt so far in his career. This is a golden opportunity for him. He needs to be practicing in full. If he's not, his chance could slip away. He has to show this team he can get healthy, stay healthy and be productive. If he's still not able to practice fully today after getting all of last week off that seems very concerning to me.

Could not agree more, PF.

With the information we have so far, I don't see how you can plan on starting him unless Hart is on your waiver wire. Indy playing on Monday night kind of throws a big monkey wrench into using Brown this week

If he doesn't practice in full today (which isn't expected to happen) or tomorrow he won't be starting for me barring some miraculous news on Saturday.

Me either although I am worried it could be like McFadden last week.

Derrick Ward is on a lot of waiver wires. If desperate for a MNF RB, pick him up and sub him in, as needed. :lmao:

Good advice. In PPR leagues, Ladell Betts isn't a bad option either this week in my opinion since I expect the Saints to throw it a ton Sunday night. That would enable to wait through Sunday and get as much info as possible.

Can't decide whether to drop Brown for a guy like Woodhead, Betts, or Goodson or to drop Freeman to pick up Hart and use whoever starts on MNF.Decisions, decisions.

Not sure what to make of this, but it sure complicates things: Adam Schefter on Twitter:

Adam_Schefter

Neither Joseph Addai nor Donald Brown practiced today for Colts. Addai not likely to play Monday night, Brown has a real chance to play.

Brown is the most oft-injured player in the NFL, and the worst thing is he has barely played in a two-year career. Just imagine how hurt he would be if he actually had some tread on the tires. Owners would be wise to forget about him and move on, redraft and dynasty.
