Donnie Avery- Colts (1 Viewer)

At this point, I see no reason to worry about Collie. I can do that when/of he comes back. What I do know is that Avery has always been pretty good when healthy, and now he's playing with the best QB he's ever had, I think thats fair to say already with Luck as much as it does the crap Avery has had previously. Now its a big if for him to stay healthy, but I think if he does, he's a solid WR3 or flex start most weeks. Just a hunch.

But yes, I did pick him up in a couple leagues. Looked much more appealing than the rest of what was out there. He even made it through waivers in 1 of them which I found quite surprising.

put me in the camp that he is an average talent & that once Collie comes back everyone stops talking about about this journeyman
Collie is one hit away from working in the post office. Avery is the player to have. Now and long term... Dynasty owners do not sleep on him if he is available.

and when Collie comes back & takes his starting job back Avery might be working at the post office (and he won't have his own thread anymore/ again)

Don't see any reason why Collie would be handed the job back. Here's what Colts OC Bruce Arians said about Avery.
“I loved Donnie coming out (of college). I had him rated as the highest receiver coming out of the draft that year (2008)," Arians said. Sometimes hard luck hits a guy, injuries, he’s not in the right system, but ever since he’s been here, his confidence has grown, his speed is back, he’s healthy. It hasn’t been a surprise to me. It might be a surprise to him. I think the sky is the limit for this guy. He’s still young. I think we’ve got a diamond.”

It doesn't really matter whether Collie "takes the job back" or not. If he's healthy, he and Avery will be splitting the targets somewhat. Which will likely drain Avery of any real value. He's not a guy that is going to help you win anything without a bunch of targets.

The "if Collie is healthy crowd" have to be tested for a concussion. He seriously has the highest likelihood of any player, ever, to get hurt again.

The concussion thing is definetly there and something to be considered. If Collie comes back Avery has shown enough to hang onto him because it will be only a matter of time with Collie.

I still say it's Collie moving forward ....

2 different reports both from RotWorld today :

Austin Collie - WR - Colts

Austin Collie (concussion) is listed as probable for Week 3.

Collie participated in full practices Wednesday through Friday and it appears he's on track to be active for his first game of 2012. The Colts say he still needs the approval of a doctor to be met with on Saturday, however. We'd probably give Collie a week to prove his health before putting him in fantasy lineups.

Austin Collie - WR - Colts

Coach Chuck Pagano revealed that Austin Collie (concussion) will have to meet with doctors Saturday before gaining clearance to play versus the Jaguars.

Collie had a "good week" of full practices, but the Colts are taking extra precautions after he had a Thursday setback a week ago. If Collie does get the green light from doctors on Saturday, we tentatively expect him to resume starting over Donnie Avery opposite Reggie Wayne.

First Collie catch goes for 6 yards and he's carried off with a knee injury and will not return.

No fear of Austin collie but who's this Hilton guy? Definite fear of creeping on Avery's targets from him.

3rd rounder from FIU. A lot of people high on him coming out. He's a slot type though, so it depends on how much they go to 3-wide sets. He definitely seems to be getting looks.

Didn't get to watch the game.

How did he manage to get so little on 9 targets? Did he drop the ball? Were these "targets" in name only (i.e. Luck throwing under pressure)? Or was it just unlucky?

Also is he getting any deeper looks, or is he playing a more pure slot role?

Same old Donnie Avery. I drafted him in 2008 and I'm not a believer that he will ever perform with any type of consistency.

Except for the him being healthy, consistently getting 8+targets a game and having a first rate NFL QB throwing to him for the first time ever he's exactly the same old Avery. In answer to the question on his targets yesterday. I blazed through watching most of the NFL so I missed a lot but recall most of his targets were deep shots and I don't recall any drops.

I was at the game and he definitely had 2 drops. One was a bad case of alligator arms. I'd hold him for now. I could see Hilton moving outside which would possibly improve Avery's catch rate in the slot. He simply isn't good enough to be consistent on the outside.

One long pass which was looked like a drop was actually pass interference.

I think this guy could have major value. In dynasty as well.

Without Collie, with a fairly firm grasp on the starting job, with a young stud getting accustomed to him, and with Wayne about to celebrate his 54th birthday maybe Avery can turn into the next, well, Wayne. He developed early on with Manning and became his go-to guy to the point where the Colts didn't have to go out and spend a high pick on a receiver that would hurt his value.

Sometimes situation is more important than talent, of which I think Avery actually does have some of. At his age, he could develop into a solid fantasy wide-out for the next five or six years.

If Luck didn't under throw Avery on a bomb this week he would be receiving a lot of love. I say buy low this week.

I do see some similarities to Brandon Lloyd and he's worth getting just to see how he develops. He's already 28 though and it would be amazing to me if he stayed healthy all season, let alone for 5 or 6 years.

:goodposting: Feels like it's only a matter of time with this guy.

I would sell in a heartbeat to anyone who thinks like Apple Juice. A 2013 2nd rounder would easily get the job done.

That said, he looks like the for sure #2 for the foreseeable future. Hopefully Brazil gets a shot at some point this season.
