Donnie Avery's TD dance -- SERIOUSLY? (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
First, I will readily admit that maybe I'm getting old. I grew up in the 70s where guys played for the name of the team... not the name on the back of the jersey. But what happened yesterday made me want to puke, and I can't imagine I'm alone on this.

Late 4th quarter, Donnie Avery catches a touchdown pass. A teammate comes over to congratulate him. Avery pushes him away so that he can have the stage all to himself in the end zone. He proceeds to do a STUPID little choreographed dance for ten seconds. The score at the time? Oh, THAT irrelevant matter..... 31-9 Vikings.

Does this bother anyone else? How ignorant and selfish can you possibly be? Maybe he was celebrating the fact that it was the first ball he hasn't dropped all season. These guys should watch tape of Barry Sanders simply handing the ball to the ref after scoring a TD. You want to do your awesome dance in a close game? Fine, I guess. But doing that in a blowout tells everyone you care only about yourself and not one single other person on your sideline. If I was his teammate, I would have wanted to crawl in a hole out of embarrassment.

Rant over.

He'll probably have to wait 12 months to get another chance to do a TD dance, so hey, give the guy a break.

Speaks volumes about the mentality of todays athletes - Avery and Bly this week. It's nothing new, with TO and OchoCinco gimmicks. You know the saying, "Act like you've been there before" but I guess in St.L.'s case, it might not apply :yucky:

Jerry: I started talking with Dennis Wilburn about your renegotiation. Rod: Talking. Jerry Rice, Andre Reed, Chris Carter... I smoke all these fools. They are making the big sweet dollars. They are making the... kwan, and you are talking. Jerry: Kwam. That's your word? Rod: Yeah, man, it means love, respect, community... and the dollars too. The whole package. The kwam. Jerry: Great word. Towel? Rod: No, I air-dry. Jerry: Rod, I say this with great respect, but those players you mentioned are marquee players... Rod: Marquee?!? Jerry: Here's what I'm saying. This is a renegotiation. We want more from them, so let's show them more from us. Let's show them your pure joy of the game, let's bury the attitude a little, let's show them -- Rod: You're telling me to dance. Jerry: No, I'm saying to be -- Rod: "Love me love me love me... put me on t.v." That's the iconography of rascism, man! Jerry: Rod, I'm not a rascist. I'm telling you to be the best version of you, to get back to the guy who first started playing this game. Way back when you were a kid. It wasn't just about the money, was it?...Was it? Rod: Do your job, man, don't tell me to dance. Jerry: Fine. Fine. Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine. Rod: I'm an athlete, not an entertainer. These are the ABC's of ME. Get it? I do not dance.

:goodposting: Felt the exact same way... I thought for sure he had something cool in store for us all, after he pushes his teamate out of the way to clear the dance floor, and all we get is a lame version of the twist what a dip!

The fact that he shoved his teammate away bothered me even more than dancing when down 20+. Avery is a loser.
Me to. I get it that you want to celebrate but pushing a teammate away like that is ridiculous. I have no idea who the teammate was but I would be willing to bet that teammate had a part in getting him into the endzone. Classless move...

Why does this bother you so much?
You think his actions were perfectly fine?He needs to learn how the game is played. I wouldn't be surprised if one of his teammates punched him in the face after the game. He made ALL of them look bad. Spags would instantly become my favorite coach if he benched him for one game after that garbage.

the Rams throwback uniforms -- weren't they from their '99 Super Bowl season? They haven't won a Super Bowl since they changed their uniforms. I say bring them back!

#16 - Danny Amendola
He's getting PT with the Rams? Liked him when he was with the Eagles preseason before they cut him.

Ok, Avery's a doosh then.

 Those were my favorite uniforms EVER in the NFL. Sad day when they changed to that horrid brown mustard color.

FWIW, I assumed, and still do, Avery pushed the teammate away to avoid the "group celebration" penalty. I don't think that changes much though.

:goodposting: this is probably the reason why. besides that, who cares.
There is ZERO chance that he pushed Amendola away to avoid a celebration penalty. Would a guy who does a dance like this while his team trails 31-9 care about getting a celebration penalty? His teammate was invading his personal space, which would have prevented his super duper touchdown dance.

I saw it, and my reaction was the same. I thought he looked like an absolute fool. I laughed out loud at him.

I just don't get the mentality, or lack thereof, that would induce a guy to act like this. Ever.

It gets really tiresome watching some of these tools celebrate every meaningless play they are involved in.

Playing with emotion is great, being ignorant and self-serving isn't.

You just don't do that when you are getting your ### handed to you. What's to celebrate? A TD in garbage time? Big-effing-deal.

So, there's one exact way the game should be played, and if it's not played the way you think it should, it makes you angry? It was one moment of release from a season of pent-up frustration. Maybe it's give the other beaten-down souls unfortunate enough to wear a Rams uniform a moment of whimsy and respite that will help them to focus on playing the game more successfully.

Yes.What Avery did encapsulates everything that's wrong with today's spoiled, me-first athlete. If you don't get it, you don't get it.

He was absolutely looking out for Amendola's best interest. It takes a very thoughtful and alert man in that situation to realize that he would have made Amendola look like a D-bag too. Avery saved him from a Monday morning ridicule. I :goodposting: Avery...

... tool.

I think the worst part of that stupid celebration is that he had just beaten Minnesota's 5th CB as they had already removed their starters. So, you're good enough to beat a special teams player for a TD, what a stud you are. Too bad you didn't do against Winfield earlier in the game when it would've mattered. Then you may have had reason to dance.

I think it would be great if the opponents of some of these clowns who are getting their asses kicked joined in on the celebrations.

This has really gotten out of control. I was watching the USC Washington game, and a play before Washington kicks the winning FG, a LB hits Polk pretty hard, and he falls around the 5 or 10 yard line. The LB thinks its a good idea to dance with a loss about to happen.

I find it laughable as well as the DB's that get up and dance after making a big hit after a 35 yard completion ....

Let me get this right: the only guy on the entire team who scored a touchdown is the guy who bugs you?Yes, you're getting old. It's football, not church choir.

It is kinda of sad that alot of NFL players and "team athletes" in general care more about their personal performance than if their team wins or not. You have a #WR upset this week that he didn't get the ball enough, but in reality he was a major contributor in the victory, due to the fact he was drawing double coverage all day and therefore created situations where the QB could easily find other options, speaking of the Eagles #1 WR. Diidn't mean to get off the Avery topic, Avery is just a typical example of a percentage of today's athletes, where $$$ and all of the extras are more important than winning, but there are still alot of top players who do put the team first. I wonder if Ray Lewis would have been happy if Avery was his teammate and celebrated like that when their team is getting a beatdown.

Ah yes... the good old days of the 70's... where nothing like this would ever happen... *cough* Billy Johnson *cough*....

We're only down 25!!!! :goodposting:

Ray Lewis committed an obvious personal foul penalty that let the Bengals keep alive the drive that beat the Ravens. Ray Lewis helped the other team win yesterday.Donnie Avery scored a TD for his team.
