Donte Stallworth.... huge sleeper this week? (1 Viewer)

With Newman being hurt, Braylon Edwards coming back from an injury... and drawing most of the coverage along with Winslow. Is Stallworth in a position to have a huge game? Especially considering they will probably be losing, and throwing the ball... and he blew up on the Cowboys last year?

What do you think? Seems like all of the markers are in place.

Stallworth was brought in to stretch the field. If the O-line plays like it dod against the Giants and Lions, there'll be no time for him to get through a pattern. I'm expecting a ton of 3 and 5 step drops, taking advantage of DA's quick release. DA won't have time for a 7 step, scan the field type play unless the Browns somehow establish the run with a dinged up Lewis, and then work off play action.

ETA: I am a Stallworth owner, and a Browns fan, and I am not starting him until I see that they have corrected the dreck we saw in preseason.

Good points here. Edwards and Winslow benefit from the shorter routes/drops and quicker developing plays. That said, Stallworth could still use his speed and ability to run after the catch if the Cowboys roll their coverage towards the two Pro Bowlers. Stallworth is a shaky start, always has been in my book, but the situation today is favorable from a sleeper perspective knowing the Cowboys secondary remains the biggest question mark on their defense. With Newman playing a limited role (nickel and dime) and Pacman starting it makes for some intriguing matchups. Jones is never going to be a shutdown corner. He's a playmaker, which means he'll make the guy he's covering a playmaker at times, too. Too bad Cribbs is limited with his high ankle sprain. I'd love to see him in the slot today going against Newman/Scandrick.

I started him in the absence of Brandon Marshall. He is a boom/bust type player. Will either get you 100+ yards with a score or a line 1 for 12.

Why is "Stallworth was brought in to stretch the field" some sort of unassailable logic that nobody wants to investigate further? Are they just going to send him on go routes all game long? I too have had Stallworth on a dynasty roster (that I inherited) and have waited, often in vain, for him to reach his potential, but while he's not a WR1 he most certainly is a talented guy who can do other things besides simply running deep. I thought he was incredibly effective two years ago for the Eagles running intermediate crossing routes with McNabb hitting him for nice RAC yards. There's no reason to believe that he can't do that with Derek Anderson too, even with the injuries to the offense.

I think the Cowboys defensive secondary is that team's Achilles heel, and doubly so without Newman, their best (by far) cover DB. That gets lost a little in the discussion about how good the Cowboys are overall, but they definitely can be attacked, and the Browns are one of the few teams with a legitimately threatening TE that will cause problems for the Cowboys in deciding how to roll coverage, who to double, etc.

I like Stallworth. Yeah, he's boom or bust, but he does boom so why not today? I have him starting as my WR3 behind A Johnson and Colston FWIW, and I love his upside in that sort of role for my team.

Anderson's weakest skill is hitting receivers on the run. I wouldn't count on them connecting on crossing routes. Anderson routinely misses, usually behind the receiver.ETA: I'm not presenting any of this as unassailable logic. Assail away.

A Browns fantasy forecast for the Dallas game that mentions expectations for Stallworth along with, QB Derek Anderson, WR Braylon Edwards, TE Kellen Winslow, and RB Jamal Lewis. Go to the link for the rest of the article.

... Fantasy forecast and prediction

Browns fantasy forecast.

Green light QB Derek Anderson. He should be healthy and ready to start and the line should have extra motivation to keep him upright after the Giant debacle. Tank Johnson and Greg Ellis might get to DA but I think that he will have a fine game with over 250 yards and with two potential scores.

Green light RB Jamal Lewis who may not have a big game but should have respectable fantasy numbers, 60-80 rush yards with another 10-20 via the air with an outside shot to score.

Big green lights for the Browns receivers especially TE Kellen Winslow who I feel would like to take out some frustrations out on the team where he originally injured his knee which has caused him soo much pain over the years. Look for Winslow to make the most of his receptions so he's a threat to score this week and gain extra yards after receptions (70 yards possible score). Braylon (80 yards possible score) has crossed a barrier last year where he's a must start every week that he is healthy but I'm also green lighting Donte' Stallworth (65 yards) because I think that their may be a trick or two planned with Stallworth.

Sitting Stallworth in favor of Courtney Taylor in one league until Steve Smith returns.
Good call for anyone who sat this waste of an NFL player. Can you believe this?

He pulled his groin in warmups.

This is the same guy who showed up to training camp with a pulled hamstring and missed the first few days.

Way to completely sabotage the team Donte'

Stallworth doesn't start

CLEVELAND -- Moments before kickoff, the Browns announced that starting wide receiver Donte' Stallworth was questionable with a groin injury that he apparently suffered during pregame warm-ups...

This sort of thing happens from time to time. The Redskins lost a backup LB on Thursday during the coin toss - Khary Campbell. Why are you assuming that he's faking an injury?
