Love the ritual of getting donuts with the kids. My dad did the same thing. About once a month, it still is something we look forward to. Firecakes is the best in Chicago and really liked Dough in NYC

Have a donut once or twice a year. But if I have a choice, it's a chocolate covered cake donut. Don't really like non-cake at all. Not even remotely tempted by the others.

Not a huge fan.  There's tons of stuff terrible for me I'd prefer to eat before donuts.

But to answer your question, when does't frosting make something better?
When it's a mans hair.

I sort of like the ones that the nightwatchman keeps out of reach. The top shelf donuts. He's gotta...crane himself up for those, maybe even use a stick to pull

'em down. Those are the best.

You guys keep saying frosted.  I believe the term you are looking for is "iced".
You're gonna have to take it up with Dunkin' Donuts , Entenmann's, and a bunch of other places.

* I actually agree, and Krispy Kreme has your back.

Speaking of Krispy Kreme, I could eat like 6 of those glazed rounds of airy goodness without blinking.

I could also spend hours just watching the machine making them, so that's the kind of person you're dealing with here.

Ok help me out here. What's a cake donut and what's a non-cake one?

There are cake donuts and there are raised (regular or plain) donuts.  The cake donuts have a heavier (more cake-like) density.  Regular or raised ones are more light and airy.
Raised donuts are also called yeast donuts.  See Krispy Kreme or Dunkin glazed for delicious example.

I like donuts, but I rarely eat them. I like the powdered sugar and original dunkin donut (which is the cake one with the knob on it). I also like the glazed krispy kreme. Donuts usually make me feel a bit nauseous after eating them. I think it is from all the sugar.

My friends back where I grew up in the land of the original Dunkin' Donut may hate me for this, but there is nothing better than a Hot Krispy Kreme. Love DD, but the fresh warm Krispy Kreme is just spectacular.

Krispy Kreme still lights up their sign that says "Hot Now" whenever fresh hot donuts have just been cooked.

Imo....

If it's a regular circle donut with white stuff on top and rainbow sprinkles....the white stuff is called FROSTING.

If it's a regular circle glazed donut, i think either glaze or icing can be used to describe the coating. Frosting wouldn't work here.

Fake news

Glazed <> iced <> frosted

Having lived in Europe, Australia and America, it is quite clear that the terms frosting, icing and even glaze are used in interchangeable ways within recipes. However, they actually ARE quite different, as seen below!

Frosting

Frosting is the thickest of the three. It has a cream or a butter base and generally will have a buttery taste. It was first invented in 1915 by Mrs. Fred W. Gurney.

Icing

Icing is a lot thinner than frosting and is glossier. In general, it has a sugar or egg white base, but butter or cream can be added to it. Its taste is generally a lot more sugary than frosting. It was ‘invented’ in 1769 by Elizabeth Raffald.

Glaze

Sugar glaze is the thinnest and glossiest of these three. It is made from a sugar base and is often translucent.

three pages and no cronut mention. good.
I love cronuts, but they cost $4.50 each when they were all the rage a few years ago. I haven't even looked for them the last time I was in a donut shop. Hopefully they're more reasonably priced these days.

I greatly prefer a sausage, egg, and cheese croissant over a donut. Or even three donuts.

I don't want sweet, i want meat!

It was a sick and twisted joke by someone a long time ago to add jelly to a donut.

And to all those ever since who have been perpetuating the joke by acting like they like them :middlefinger:

Jelly donuts are as bad as a screaming viking.

Fond memories of getting warm donuts with my mom as a kid. I don't have them often anymore, but if they are brought to a work function, etc I will definitely indulge. Cake donuts only. My favorite would be the ones covered with peanuts.

You've obviously never had a properly prepared Screaming Viking. The key is to slightly bruise the cucumber prior to serving.

Total free choice, warm chocolate croissant. Yummy. Has to be a donut, available anytime anywhere, chocolate frosted; I’ll leave an out for a warm Krispy Kreme glazed. Those just melt in your mouth.
