Draft ALL RBs theory (rookie draft) (1 Viewer)

Anybody who is applying a "rule" to fantasy football universally and not taking things case by case is an idiot. Nobody was picking Singletary because RBs get more immediate opportunity etc. They picked him earlier because the guys in front of him were Gore (literally 90 years old) and Yeldon (low dollar signing who was cuttable after 1 year) and you knew he was going to get a shot to be the guy by the 2nd half of the year. Johnson, on the other hand, had a new signing (Moncrief, laughable in hindsight) and a 2nd rounder from 2018 (Washington) in front of him. He also had a reputation as a slot guy which is Juju's role.

As I stated above, I do agree that there should be a little extra weight given to RBs because I feel they do develop faster (on average) and maintain/gain value into their 2nd year with less difficulty. But it's case by case, it's not a blanket rule
Opportunity to become the #1 on a bad offense vs. the opportunity to become the #2 on a great offense (where the #2 had just put up a top 5 fantasy season) is comparable.  And no one can genuinely consider Donte Moncrief difficult competition while at the same time dismissing TJ Yeldon out of hand.

Regardless, the comparison works just as well if you sub in Terry McLaurin.  McLaurin was likewise drafted around the same spot in the draft with a very clear path to take over the #1 duties yet went at least a full round later in rookie drafts.  Now coming off the 19th best fantasy rookie WR season he still has virtually the same ADP as Singletary coming off the 60th best rookie RB season.

I'm not saying anything about rules.  I'm saying people are already implicitly incorporating this into their drafts whether they realize it or not.

McClaurin: 3rd round NFL pick, 19th best rookie WR season, clear #1 on his team going forward and into the future

Singletary: 3rd round NFL pick, 60th best RB season, probable #1 on his team going forward but with a murky future

ADP = the same.

You can see how much more a WR has to do to reach equal value to a RB in the short term.  So the notion of leaning towards RBs in drafts because of their early returns is certainly not something to just dismiss away, and in reality it's something we all do by default anyway.
