Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please move it. I considered the "Free for All section, but the top posts were about snoring and bacon, so I didn't think it fit!

Anyhow, I'm going to be hosting our league's draft this weekend (14 teams, auction) and would like to hear some ideas of cool draft-day things that your leagues have done.

We're going to a separate room at a bar and will have a draft board for picks and the usual beers and nachos, with the game on the big screen, but I'm thinking of having our auctioneer pre-select 5-6 players. Once an owner has successfully bid on one of these players, he wins a sort of "secret prize" which is essentially a free pint at the bar.

I'm looking for other ideas, but my search of other posts basically brought up strippers and Vegas, neither of which is an option.

So guys, what does your league do that's cool for your live drafts?

 
We gather round in a circle and begin, from a slow chant, repeating the words "draft", draft, DRaft, DRAft!, DRAFT!, DRAFT! until we burst out laughing.

Designated manager screams, "first picks up!"

 
We have the boobie fund. 10 year anniversary we are hiring a large breasted attractive topless auctioneer. More like a stripper posing as an auctioneer.

in a league with my buddies we line up shots glasses for anyone who:

1a. calls a player by the wrong first name

1b. drafts a player by stating their first initial followed by their last name in an effort to avoid #1a

2. tries to pick a player already drafted

3. makes a negative comment about a player and then proceeds to draft them

4. drafts any player on the Cowboys

offenses escalate (one shot for first offense, two for second, etc...)

Last year was interesting with Witten, Romo, and Felix on my team.

 
Draft order determined byWWE style battle royal (Nacho Libre mask and tights optional)! Get a garden hose, make a big circle out in the yard, blow a whistle and start pushing owners out. 1st one out gets the last pick. Last man standing gets 1st pick.

OK, I'm making this up, but always thought it would be a real trip anyway!

 
We have 5 random players who if selected have a prize attached to them. Sleeve of golf balls, sports memorabilia, etc. Each year our divisions are determined by a game of chance. Last year all twelve teams putted and the 3 divisions were based on distance from the "cup". In years past it has been floating ducks in a duck pond (12 ducks, 4 ducks of each division). One year it was throwing darts at balloons and the balloons contained division names in them.

Each owner has to bring a side dish or dessert. Two of the owners bring hot dogs and/or wings for the main course. Smetimes we order a pizza. All day event. 24 rounds with IDP...more about the experience than the speed of drafting.

But I don't know what T.J. Houshmandzadeh's real name is, would I have to drink twice since I said the middle initial? This could be fun! :thumbup:

Im going to try and implement this. We change divisions every 3 years. Thanks. :thumbup:
 
Sounds corny, but I put together a powerpoint of all the past season and stats and arranged them with little jokes here and there and patterns from the previous seasons. Guys seemed to like it.

TJ is actually short for Touraj. And you would have to drink three times if you can't pronounce his last name. Rudi Johnson was the origin of this rule, as one of my friends couldn't remember his first name and said "I'll take Johnson, from the Bengals." When asked which one, he first guessed Ron, then Roger, then finally just said, "you know, R-Initial Johnson"It's always fun to pull these rules out of thin air when there is a new guy who has no clue about them.
 
We have divisions set up by odd and even draft numbers. Then all the owners bring an h'or deurve or some appetizer. We have various yard games and a lot of alcohol.... all in all, a great day!
