Draft Dominator Preview (1 Viewer)

I'll admit it... The first time I used my laptop at my local draft, I was a little nervous. What would the other guys say? But you know what... to my suprise, not one person said a thing about the laptop. What was even more suprising, is the next year, three other guys showed up with laptops. Moral of the story: Set the pace... let the others play catch up.
I have never taken the DD to a live draft. I have been thinking about it this year because it looks so awesome. I have always been careful not to meniton "football guys" around any of my league mates because I believe it is the best source out there for fantasy football. All of the guys in my league are very good and I feel that this site gives me that little edge I need to seperate myself (I have won 2 out of the last 3 years in close playoff match-ups).I think I am going to take the laptop this year and ride out the storm of everyone asking me what I am doing. A couple of them are programmers so they are going to be very interested in what I have....I will just have to put the lockdown on the Dell. We draft very early in our league (mid June) so I am anxiously waiting for the release so I can practice and use it for the draft. It appears you have outdone yourselves again Football Guys.....hats off...or in the famous words of my boy Tony Soprano.....Salute!!

This program is going to kick butt. By the way, I believe Tony is saying "Salud" not "Salute". Salud, as in, "To your health!"

well no kidding....and to think I am really part Italian....ooops! :wall:

Looks like a definite must buy. And since I went 2 and freaking 12 last year, I will definitely use it. But I do have 2 questions:1. I have a position in my auction league called 'Offense" that is an NFL team and is scored based on wins and special team touchdowns. I don't see a way to use this for the dominator. Any ideas on how I can use this position in your draft dominator.2. Are the statistical values (ADV for example) determined in the dominator or do I have to create the calcuations myself.Thanks. With this I might actually win some games this year. :loco:

If you are taking the time to write down the selections on paper, you're already spending more time than you need to.It could not be easier to use the DD during your draft to keep track of everything. It practically runs itself. All you have to do when someone makes a selection is click the name of the player (which is normally at the top of the list) and click a single button which adds the player to that team's roster. The DD automatically advances itself to the next team and is waiting for you to click on the next player. It really could not be easier to keep track of your draft.Assuming you are handy with the PC in general, using the DD will be a breeze.Of course there is some setup to do before hand (entering in the team names, draft order, and keepers if any) but all that info is saved in the DD so you show up ready to go.Of course there are tons of other things working behind the scenes to provide you with the best suggestion for when your pick comes up, but it really doesn't REQUIRE you to go ubergeek on it.
I used it with my online draft last year with much success! We only have 90 seconds to make a selection, and i noticed i was able to make my decision with plenty of time and no stress. Several other teams would take the clock all the way to the end.I can't wait for this new version!

Cool. Did you use it on the same computer you did your draft on?

But I think if you took Jessica Simpson, or even Shakira, and showed her how to use the Draft Dominator (with FBG projections) five minutes before the draft, most of my advantage would be gone. It's like a good chess player going up against a total novice who happens to have Deep Blue running in the background . . . the total novice can suddenly play like an expert.
Which is why I take great pains to make sure I never, ever mention footballguys.com around any of my friends. I don't even mention it to people who aren't in my league. I don't even send people to blackeyedjoe.com for a laugh, in case they see the actual footballguys.com logo at some point and put 2 and 2 together. At my draft next fall, I will simply explain that the DD is my own creation. :rotflmao:(edited for poor grammar)
That's funny. I do the same thing. I even checked the initial list of competitors in the challenge last year and found out that two of the guys I compete against were FBGs too and I didn't even know. Word is getting out which is great for FBG, bad for me. GB doing your own projections. GDB FBG having better ones!

Cool. Did you use it on the same computer you did your draft on?
Bronco,Yes I did. We used cbs.sportsline to do our live draft so I had one window open to the league page, and the DD window.Super quick and easy to switch from one to the other and cover all your bases.

NICE. Looking forward to getting my hands on this soon !!!!

I do have another question. Could you briefly explain the following VBD Baselines:Joe's "Secret" FormulaWorst Starter MethodCustom Baseline based on either Player Position Rank or Fantasy Points.

The question is - what if you're having an on-line draft? Do you think it'd be a little too "busy" to be bouncing back-and-forth? As most drafts have very finite time limits between picks, you could really get yourself doing too much to make your pick.
It can be done on one as many have stated already. I prefer two computers if you have the luxury. In my case I use my work laptop to connect to the drafting site, and my home computer to run the Draft Dominator.

HOw does it handle keepers? In my league, for example, we can keep one player per position. Can I preset the keepers to the appropriate rosters? Also, does it take bye weeks into account?
It handles Keepers and lets you preset them. If they count against a draft pick, you can preset that too. Likewise if they count against the auction cap, you can preset that too. It will handle multiple keepers per team, and they don't have to be the same amount on each team. For example, some leagues let teams keep between 2 and 5 keepers. The bye weeks show up in the player pool. Also the new GameByGame projections will update you weekly projected team strength based on bye weeks.

Joe's Secret Formula is... well its a secret. But essentially it sets the VBD baselines for you giving a little extra weight to RBs and WRs.Worst Case Method - sets the VBD Baselines at the minimum Position Requirements times the number of teams in the league. For example if you have a 12 team league that requires 1-QB, 2-RB, 3-WR, etc... it will set the Baselines for QB at 12, the RB at 24, and the WR at 36.The Custom Player Position lets you determine where you want the Baselines. For example you could set the QB to 14, the RB to 28, and the WR to 34. It is up to you.Similarily the Custom Player Points lets you set the Baselines by Fantasy Points. For example, you could set QB to 312 pts, the RB to 220 pts, and the WR to 180 pts.Once the Baslines are set, all of the other players are measured against these baselines to determine their VBD values. If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to read Joe Bryant's excellent VBD Article: VBD Article

Man, looks awesome. Just hope I am able to figure it all out!
If you are computer literate enough to post on this message board, then you will have no problem mastering the Draft Dominator.Maurile talked about having Jessica Simpson use it earlier in the thread. It really is that easy to use. (for all I know Jessica could be a computer whiz though...)Basically you can use it right out of the box (web). As you get more comfortable with it, you can try using some of the "advanced" features. Don't let the word "advanced" scare you though, they really are easy to learn. At my day time job... I write software for Industrial Plant Floor applications. Most of the operators on the floor aren't too keen about using computers. I've learned a lot about making applications "User Friendly" over the years. There is a catch phrase that we design by called "KISS". It stands for Keep it Simple Stupid.Bottom Line: You should have no problem using it!

Not from the footage I've seen.

It would be nice if a popup warning message appears when you select a player that shares a bye week with someone on your roster as a precaution. You can then have the ability to accept or deny the selection.

I'm choosing to hope they are too busy with last minute debugging to keep up with the board. If I were them I would want to get it out tonight and start the long weekend. Please please please be right. :( :( :(

Joined this site in the "off-season, if there is such a thing.

I attempted to down load the "Draft Dominator", version sited. Attempt resulted in failure to complete as the version sited was in revision.

So, my question David Dodds: do I just down load the new one over the old, failed, attempt.

Or do I.............?

In other words, best advice for this download, please.

Best,

SK

David, thanks for the reply. :wall: You are exibiting signs of being artistic, or is that autistic. At any rate, same question: yes, I want the new one and yes, the previouse one failed in a down load attempt but I'm sure that there are files that reside from the attrempt on my hard drive; DO I DOWNLOAD OVER THE OLD ONE WITHOUT ELIMAINATING IT OR DO I delete it, and risk corruption of lost files in the deletition?Best,SK

The new one will install right over the old one (even on a failed install), replacing all of the old files with new files. So there is really no need to delete the old one.But if you want to delete the old one, here's how: 1) Uninstall the the Draft Dominator (Click Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, and then select Draft Dominator). 2). Browse to the C:\Program Files\DraftDominator subdirectory and delete any remaining files. Keep in mind there may not be any files left after the uninstall.

Hello Gentleman,Whats the latest on the dominator? I see the rankings have been updated, can we expect the dominator today?Got a draft next weekend and I am dying for this to be released so I can prepare!! :chet:
