Draft Rumors (1 Viewer)

The three-way trade rumor has come out of New York. It goes like this: The Saints and Jets would swap positions, allowing New Orleans to select Mario Williams at No. 4. The Jets would then trade the No. 2 pick to the Raiders in exchange for the seventh selection, wide receiver Jerry Porter and additional picks, likely future choices. That move would allow the Raiders to pick either Matt Leinart or Vince Young. Meanwhile, the Jets would draft offensive lineman D'Brickashaw Ferguson at No. 7, if the Packers haven't grabbed him at No. 5, then trade Ferguson's rights to the Saints.

An NFL source said the Packers and Broncos recently discussed the availability of disgruntled Green Bay wide receiver Javon Walker. There is a chance Walker will be traded by this weekend's draft, and the Broncos are one of several teams that have expressed interest in Walker, who is recovering from a torn ACL. The Packers are believed to be asking for multiple draft picks for Walker. Denver and other interested teams, including Philadelphia and San Francisco, are expected to talk with Green Bay as the draft approaches.

The Jets' interest in Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler remains high, so much so that they're in discussions with the Baltimore Ravens to try to obtain him with the 13th pick overall, according to a person who has been in contact with several NFL teams and has first-hand knowledge of strategy in the top portion of the NFL Draft.

Barring some veteran smoke-screen work by Mike Tannenbaum and Eric Mangini, it appears almost certain the Jets will not take a quarterback that high. It's widely believed they will draft a QB from the so-called second tier of available bodies, with hopes of finding a gem out of the first round. That pool includes Alabama's Brodie Croyle, Clemson's Charlie Whitehurst and Oregon's Kellen Clemens. According to their scouting system, the Jets believe none of the "big 3" QBs is worth the No. 4 pick.

If the Jets don't get Jay Cutler, they're eyeing Alabama QB Brodie Croyle and Oregon's Kellen Clemens in the second or third round.

The Pats should be in a position to trade up or if they stay at 21, have no shortage of choices at linebacker. One name that could top their list is Bobby Carpenter. A.J. Hawk’s partner at Ohio State has an NFL pedigree - his father, Rob, played for Belichick’s Giants - as well as NFL physical skills. Iowa’s Chad Greenway is another option. A high school safety from South Dakota, he excelled at linebacker for coach Kirk Ferentz. His coverage skills and special teams ability add dimensions to his well-rounded game.

If I'm not missing something here... The Jets would...

add: Jerry Porter and other picks

give: their 4th spot

is that right?... they are not getting anything for drafting Ferguson and "giving him" to the Saints? (or is that part of the 2nd for 4th swap?)...

So the Saints get both Mario and Brick? And the Jets just get Jerry Porter and picks in future years?

That's the problem with this rumor. Granted Benson is cheap, but I can't see the Saints just swapping with NYJ and getting nothing in return. ANd later swapping back drafted players for nothing.

Benson is cheap enough to give up the #2 for very little and drop with the Jets then pick Ferguson- I would bank on it.

So the Saints get both Mario and Brick?
uhhh no. Re-read the deal.
The Saints and Jets would swap positions, allowing New Orleans to select Mario Williams at No. 4Meanwhile, the Jets would draft offensive lineman D'Brickashaw Ferguson at No. 7, if the Packers haven't grabbed him at No. 5, then trade Ferguson's rights to the Saints.

That's sure as hell what it sounds like to me.

This whole thing is bogus, or mis-stated. No way the Jets trade the #4 pick for Jerry Porter and some future draft picks. Likewise, the Saints don't get 4 & 7 (Williams/Ferguson) for #2. The Raiders can't use Porter and some cryptic "future picks" to move from 7 to 2. Furthermore, no team would make a deal contingent on Ferguson being available at #7, which won't happen.

Other than that, this is rock solid.

sounds like that to me tooi also like the IF the packers don't grab DaBrick. What happens when they do?

This is a replica of the socalled insider in another thread...The way it's written here... yes, the Saints would get D'Brick and Mario...

But, I would think that the "give back D'Brick to the Saints" is bogus...

That would mean:

Jets

add: D'Brick + Porter + picks

give: 4th pick

Oak

add: Leinart or Young

give: 7th pick

Saints

add: Mario

give: 2nd pick

But then again... this scenario suppose that the Jets are gambling that D'Brick won't be chosen by the Packers and 49ers... fat chance...

So, in this scenario, the Jets are trading #4 for #7, Porter and picks. Fine.Explain why New Orleans would trade down from #2 to #4, apparently for no reason other than to benefit the Raiders and Jets by facilitating their trade. By the same token, the Raiders get the #2 pick for #7, Porter, and future picks?

This doesn't work either - it would have to be tweaked further. Maybe the Saints get the additional picks and the Jets simply get Porter and #7, but they'd be moronic to do that.

hehe... don't shoot the messenger... I was just trying to put some sense into that rumor... :P Exactly my point... why the Saints would want to do this?... just pick Super Mario @ 2 !...

This rumor was posted a few days ago with the poster claiming it was orchestrated by Leinart's agent to get him picked at #2.

Oak gives up future picks, Porter and #7 - Gets #2 and takes Leinart

NO gives up #2, gets #4 and picks Mario, trades Mario to NYJ for D'Brick. Pays D'Brick #7 money instead of #2 money. Maybe gets picks from the Raiders?

NYJ gives up #4, gets #7 and picks D'Brick. Trades him to NO for Mario and still pays Mario #4, the guy they wanted all along, but gets Porter in the process.

The deal is of course screwed if GB or SF take Brick. The poster claimed the agent was trying to arrange compensation for these teams to NOT take Brick.

:loco:

Players that will surely be gone by 6 picks

BUSH

DBRICK

MARIO WILLIAMS

HAWK

VINCE YOUNG

VERNON DAVIS

Outside looking in: Leinart, Huff, J.Williams

D'Brick won't be available at #7. That's a pipe dream, folks...

Then why do so many mocks have Young going 1.07 to the Raiders?
