Draftguys TV - Thomas Brown, RB, Georgia (1 Viewer)

He's a fine player when healthy, great balance, and a definite worthwhile prospect to contribute to a roster. He's one of the strongest players pound for pound on the UGA team and his work ethic is legendary around here.

The guy that piques my interest if he can regain a step with more rehab time is Kregg Lumpkin. One of my sources, a trainer for the Bulldogs (and a former trainer for the Anaheim Angels whose dad was an NFL coach, coordinator, and scout) said of the recent backs before Moreno, Lumpkin was clearly the best between the tackles runner UGA had--very decisive and good vision. It's a shame he couldn't stay healthy, because as a frosh and a few times last year Lumpkin looked like a viable first day prospect.

Great kid, I'm a big fan of his.

That said, he'll be lucky to be drafted, and I'd give him little chance of being on an NFL roster in two years.

I've had Brown at RB11 right behind the usual suspects all along. He has a unique ability to get small and get through traffic. Nice explosiveness and a good nose for the marker or goal line. I'm not surprised to hear what a hard worker he is. It showed last year.

I agree that brown won't be drafted but IMO that makes him a great sleeper candidate assuming he gets signed as an undrafted FA. If he stays healthy when he was at UGA were talking about someone who would've been drafted in the second round.

For those saying Brown doesnt get drafted:

1) How many backs do you think go this year (approximately)?

2) Who goes after the top 10 that keeps Brown undrafted?

I see about 16 or so rbs being drafted. My list of guys who go before brown in no particular order are:dmacstewartmendenhallricejonescharlesjohnsonfortesmithforsettchoiceomonslatongreen-ellishartlumpkinallenI love his talent but I think his durability issues as well as his size and average 40 will scare away GMs. Plus he wasn't a featured rb. Someone could take a late round flyer on him ala' terrel davis, I suppose

There are a ton of similar valued backs after the top 10 or so. Brown could go in the 5th, he may not get drafted, all depends on if a few teams have him valued in the 10-15 range amongst RB's or not. He was one of the last RB's I knocked off of my board that has 18 RB's on it. I admittedly give the nod to small school kids over big school guys once the draft gets to the deep portions, in most cases their ceiling is much higher due to the unknown of how they'll do against better competition. Classic low risk/high reward scenarios.

1) I think the record for a 7 rounder is 22 RBs, the norm is 17. The trend is to let the bottom of the class go undrafted and bring in a couple UDFAs to work with instead. But a final pick on Bradshaw a year ago may encourage teams to go ahead and take their guy. Every year a name or three goes undrafted to someone's surprise. I expect 18-20 RBs to be drafted from this deep class, but an early run could kill late second day demand. 2) Brown gets drafted. :lmao: though...

I agree Brown is likely drafted, but he's not as good as Bradshaw IMO--never was--Bradshaw's character and coming out early were his concerns. He was considered a 1st day back by many if not for his immaturity in college.

I doubt Lumpkin is drafted, but I hope he can manage to regain some of the old form and make some noise in a camp.

Lumpkin will get drafted, he's 6' 224lb...after stewart and mendall there are alot of talented rbs in the draft but not much size for those teams interested in a power rb

I'll be stunned if he doesn't get drafted. He seems like classic 4th-5th round sleeper material.

There are a number of interesting late round RBs this year.

I'm fairly confident you're wrong, no offense. Forte has good size, Washington runs with size and power, Green-Ellis, Torain, Boyd and my favorite sleeper Simpson all have nice size for rookies, with better triangle numbers than Lumpkin and much better injury histories. Regardless of what Wildman's friend says, Lumpkin was falling behind Brown and Moreno this time a year ago with very little reading between the spring notes lines, then he ripped up another knee ligament. That's twice for him, and he's broken some other bone. He was nice as a frosh, but sometimes things just don't hold together. NFL Draftscout ranks Brown RB14 and Lumpkin RB34. Lumpkin has a very remote chance of being drafted while Brown would be shocker to go undrafted. Will Brown stick? That is the better question, imo. I'd say it's about 50-50 for him making it through a rookie contract.

Ive also got Brown going 4th-5th - with his character, production in a big conference, strength, special teams ability, he should definitely get drafted.

According to my draft guide and my notes from the combine stats brown is the third biggest rb in the draft. I think we have differing opinions in what makes a power rb. Most of the rbs you're talking about are in the 215lb -217lb range, with green ellis being the biggest at 220. IMO a power rb is someone more like 225-235lbs. Although I will concede that AD showed plenty of power and he weighed in at 217lbs last year.

After thinking about it some more and doing a little bit of research I'm convinced that both brown and lumpkin will be drafted. The NFL simply loves the rbs that come out of UGA. No offense to musa smith, verron haynes, and vinny sutherland all of whom were drafted but you can't convince me that any of those guys had more talent than brown or lumpkin
