IMO, it's a bad idea to pre-select a specific position or player for any round of the draft. By having a set strategy of taking position X or player X, in round X, will only let "value" slip by.
To answer the question, I have no strategy for drafting an order of positions. My startegy is simply to get "value" (players based on my rankings and projections using a combo of DVBD, ADP and KSF) with every pick in every round, unless I need to fill out roster requirements.
That was my first thought when reading this as well. I don't have a set order in which I draft players either, but I almost always get my RB3 before my WR3. WR's can be harder to predict and value can be found in later rounds. In other words the WR you get in round 8 is more than likely going to be a better bye week filler than the RB in round 8. Another problem I have with your "drafting schematic" is getting your QB in round 5. Unless great value falls into your lap at that spot, I think you can wait until round 6 or 7 or even 8 and still get similar value at QB. The Mannings and Palmers of the world are going to be gone by round 5 and I don't feel the difference between the next couple of tiers is enough to reach for your QB in round 5. Of course all of this depends on how your draft is going. If there is a crazy run on a position early, you may have to adjust when you take a certain position. Every draft is different, so you gotta be able to adapt.
The best advice that i ever got in FF is the following.
"draft good players"
Sounds simple, but that is the key to winning. I honestly don't know anyone who has been around FF for a long time who wastes time trying to project yearly stats. (unless they have to do it for a job so they can have them for customers like the FBG staff and other people who work in the FF industry).
So make a sheet, write down the players you think are good, and draft accordingly.
I can tell you that I don't draft a kicker until the last two rounds. Other than that its a little of the: Take best player available, if doubtful on who that is, take a RB.
