Drafting/Waiver Wire with an RBBC.. (1 Viewer)

I remember a few years ago, I had the genius idea of locking up the Minnesota Running Game and at some point had Mewelde Moore, Michael Bennett and SOD on my squad all at the same time... Thinking that when this entire situtation played itself out, I would had the starting running back on that great running attack... As you know, it never "worked itself out", different guys led the team in touches every week and Moe Williams came in and stole the goal-line carries.

the worst part about it was that I didn't really know how to root.. You are inevitably rooting for an injury (to your own guy mind you) or for one of your guys to fumble or play so badly that the other one shines.

I have wanted to avoid this type of situation this year but still fall into the trap every once in a while.

I did NOT do this but I did hear a number of people start the season with both Bells and Cedric Cobbs (in this case it worked out), or Dayne, Morency and Lundy (has not worked out to really benefit so far), and i can feel people falling into the same trap with Morency, Ahman Green and Noah.

I wonder what the best approach to these situations is. locking up three roster spots is tough, especially if you are not going to get a guy who will get all the carries, although in some situations (Denver this year for example) it can work to your benefit....

In a way you wind up handcuffing all these guys together and it makes it hard to drop any of them

I assume it's pick a dog in the race, based on talent/ADP/coaches speak etc and run with it.

I drafted both Thomas Jones and Duece this year, first year dynasty, i took who i felt to be the best player at that pick regardless of RBBC or not

I have absolutely no interest in Benson, Bush will be too high for my price.

I tend to avoid drafting a whole RBBC, if it comes down to it i take the player i feel has the talent/experience to become a 20+ touch back a game

at the 1/4 mark, some RBBC pairings have worked out and some haven't.

The top RBBC pairing from August-ish resided in:

Indie (still unresolved)

Den (resolved in favor of TBell)

Tenn (still rotating their two ACTIVE RBs, let alone who their primary back is in a given game)

Car (resolved into DFoster even before DWilliams was injured)

NO (resolved into McAllister unless you are in a PPR league, in which case BOTH Deuce and Bush are viable options)

NE (still unresolved and unlikely to change - both backs are good starting RBs)

Chi (clearly resolved in favor of TJones, though Ced Ben will get some work in blowouts)

I think those are all the projected RBBCs from the preseason.

Other RBBCs have emerged, but I don't feel like going through every team's RB sitch to evaluate.

I would not touch any 3 headed RBBC out there...drafting all of them absolutely paralyzes your ability to pick up new players. Things to consider when you're drafting a RBBC - the coach, the skill and the injury history of the incumbent, and the guy behind them. I've stayed away from the Denver situation...altho I know there will be a stud rb there, I don't want to deal with it unless I get exceptional value in the later rounds

Another important thing is your roster size. Although this year I did draft a RBBC (Jones/Benson), a part of me regrets it simply because my roster space is only 15 spots and I can't afford to drop either RB. What I'm looking to do next year is draft a strong incumbent and a high potential rookie on a different team with a weak incumbent in front of him. This in my opinion is the best way of hedging your bets and it gives you a chance for the best case scenario - strong incumbent keeps job and high potential rookie takes it. When you draft a RBBC from the same team, that possiblity does not exist. They either share or you're waiting for someone to get hurt.

I find it with Julius and MB3.. never sure what to hope for...but I kick myself when MB3 plays well and you almost hope for an injury

Agreed. I think that if the starter went down in Dallas, Barber can become even more valuable than Jones ever was this season.

We think alot alike. This is how I drafted in a first year dynasty about 2 months before the season started.Tomlinson, Ladainian SDC RB Jones, Julius DAL RB Perry, Chris CIN RB Morris, Maurice SEA RB Dillon, Corey NEP RBHouston, Cedric NYJ RB

More often than not, I have problems working with RBBCs or handcuffing my stud RBs for that matter. The reason being, it takes up too much roster space. I missed a couple good pickups this year because I've been holding onto Mike Bell. :X
