Drafting WR-WR thread (1 Viewer)

Hey all...

Just in the start of a very competitive draft, 14 team, IDP, PPR... Drafting 10th. Took R Moss in round 1, and looking at taking another @ 2.05...

Has anyone else gone this direction with a late pick in a PPR draft? I know Chris Smith discussed it for a 12 teamer. Any advice for a brave soul?

Tried it picking 8th or 9th in a draft Went Moss and TO, Didn't end up liking my team

Moss

Owens

Jacobs

W. Parker

J. Stewart

Very risky backs

You will have to take RB's with at least three of your next four picks, maybe all four. If the right value falls the strategy can work, but it's a calculated risk; you've basically handcuffed your draft strategy by going WR/WR. If your competition erodes away the RB talent before your 5th round pick you're not going to come out of the draft feeling too good.

16 team redraft ppr league

Through 10 rounds:

QB: Matt Hasselbeck (6.09)

RB: Brandon Jacobs (3.08), Lendale White (4.09), Jerious Norwood (7.08)

WR: Randy Moss (1.08), Andre Johnson (2.09), Joey Galloway (5.08), Javon Walker (9.08)

TE: Randy McMichael (10.09)

D: Pittsburgh (8.09)

K:

Waited too long on TE, but otherwise pretty happy with the team

tried the WR in the first 2 rounds years ago and gamble on RBs. I got burned in the playoffs. I am a believer you win FF with RBs and QB. easier to find a sleeper WR late in rounds or off the WW than a RB.

I think you'd get an argument from the Ryan Grant, Earnest Graham, Kenny Watson crowd.------------Not a bad draft above. I like what you did Rounds 1-4. Not crazy about picks 5,7,9. (Possibly wait a little on Joey; Jerious isn't a horrible pick -- I guess I don't see him as a ~Top 100 player; Walker is done IMO).

I like the Jacobs pick, Parker and Stewart we'll have to see. I'm high on E. Graham or Rudi Johnson in that tier, could you have gotton them, what about T. Jones?Anyway, I'd start off with Moss and Owens in a PPR league all day. You just picked up about 30 Td's, 175 catches and 2700 yards in those 2, good luck to the rest of the league. If you can hit on one of your RB's, I hope your leauge is for money.I like J. Stewart, if he's healthy he'll compete for ROY.

:lmao:
 :goodposting: You gotta be kidding me. No way he goes that late and absolutely no way he goas AFTER Lewis.

ETA....for the OP I just think it leaves you too thin at RB. I think there are so many options at WR that you don't have to go WR-WR

:sadbanana:
Our draft was in June right after Lynch got caught.
Still no excuse for him to fall that far. Any strategy will work when you draft with a room full of bad drafters.

:whitecorner:

I've been plagued by this question all off-season so far. (14 team PPR league). I'm really leaning toward going WR/WR myself, hoping for either Moss (maybe) but more realistically a top-two duo of Wayne/Owens. After that, I'm just trying to get a feel for if I'm prepared to feel 'comfortable' with two of: Parker / T.Jones / Edge / J. Stewart / McFadden / Jacobs (maybe) / Turner as my starting two RBs. Not sure how I feel about that just yet.

The 2nd tier of RBs that should at least have a shot at being available in the 3rd/4th is looking better by the day, making this a more viable strategy

well this strategy is taking hold quickly

I actually wanted to try it but in an initial dyno picking 12th Wayne/Moss/Fitz already gone by then

and in a redraft picking 9 of ten I had my mind made up on the Moss/TO duo ... NOPE, Moss taken before me and I didn't want a TO/Fitz or TO/Wayne or TO/Braylon combo so I decided to grab a RB and get TO in round two ... NOPE, TO taken by the turn guy

It's interesting how the trends in the NFL relate to our habits as fantasy drafters. Last year was a down year for RB's. Who's to say that this season will be the same as last? I'll gladly let the running back talent fall to me in the second round while guys are stocking up on the top 5-7 wideouts. It's much easier to play matchups during the season with receivers drafted in the later rounds. I also feel like, with these receivers going so early, that the second/third tiers of wideouts are going to be falling as well as the owners scooping up WR's early are scrambling for running backs in rounds 3/4. So, I get my two top backs and then draft value at receiver in rounds 3/4. Over the course of the season I feel pretty confident that those rb's will make up for any advantages the owners drafting receivers early may have. The old adage of running backs winning in fantasy football is still true. You just have to be able to pick the right ones. Drafters seem to be going a little crazy picking receivers early simply because so many first round backs had rough yearsin 2007.

Jones, Graham were gone and I took a shoot with Stewart over Rudi. A win again ov (FBG) - Grossman, Rex CHI QB - 8 17.10 Leinart, Matt ARI QB - 7 10.03 Ryan, Matt ATL QB - 7 14.03 Warner, Kurt ARI QB - 7 12.03 Crap - I really had a difficult time with the 10th pickJacobs, Brandon NYG RB - 4 3.10 Parker, Willie PIT RB - 6 4.03 Rice, Ray BAL RB - 10 11.10 Sproles, Darren SDC RB - 9 22.03 Stewart, Jonathan CAR RB - 9 5.10 Don't really like this group but it will have to do. Hopefully Rice will work out well Driver, Donald GBP WR - 8 8.03 Evans, Lee BUF WR - 6 6.03 Moss, Randy NEP WR - 4 1.10 Owens, Terrell DAL WR - 10 2.03 Walker, Javon OAK WR - 5 13.10 Took a shot on Walker real late, I probably should have went RB at 6.03 but this is just a Footballguys DraftMaster's league.Davis, Vernon SFO TE - 9 7.10 Scheffler, Tony DEN TE - 8 9.10 Bironas, Rob TEN PK - 6 20.03 Buccaneers, Tampa Bay TBB Def - 10 18.03 Colts, Indianapolis IND Def - 4 16.03 Saints, New Orleans NOS Def - 9 19.10 Seahawks, Seattle SEA Def - 4 15.10 It's best ball so that's why I loaded up on DST late.
