Titans hope to remove Britt from PUP this week

Posted on August 26, 2012 by JIM WYATT, The Tennessean

If all goes well, the Titans will take wide receiver Kenny Britt off the Physically Unable to Perform list later this week and he’ll be ready to play 12-15 snaps in the season opener against the Patriots on Sept. 9.

That’s according to coach Mike Munchak. The Titans will have to make a decision by Friday, when NFL rosters must be trimmed to 53 players. “We think he does have that possibility,” Munchak said. “This week we are pushing him hard and doing a lot of different things to see how he responds …”

Britt, of course, might not be available even if he’s up for it health-wise. He’s still waiting to find out if NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is going to suspend him after an eighth run-in with the law since joining the Titans in 2009.

Working on a side field Sunday, Britt looked good as he ran routes and caught passes. He has been recovering from surgeries on both knees. He won’t play in Thursday’s preseason finale against the Saints.

“I feel way closer than last week, and pretty close to myself,” Britt said. “Both knees feel good. I’m not 100 percent yet, but I am getting there. I am still hoping Week 1 I’ll be back.”

Britt might start the season suspended. It's still under review but a DUI is a DUI and chances are he sits a bit.

Britt will not be 100% week 1 and chances are you wouldn't be starting him for a few weeks anyhow.

I imagine Britt projections need to be week 4 to week 13 for FF this year.

He exploded at Philly when the Eagles played the worst game I ever saw defensive backs play. He was uncovered for a good percent of his more than 200 yards. If you take that game away and look at his career, it's quite obvious he's still developing. He drops gimmes still, yet somehow can make a circus sideline catch. He has as much potential as most every WR, but I think people wrongly consider that he's "arrived" when he really hasn't yet. His injury didn't help.

The Titans will give Britt every opportunity and then some. I agree he's a worthwhile pick for that reason. It's just some of the explanations people give for their rankings aren't really very accurate.

Damian Williams has been cheated by statisticians denoting drops. He's got special hands and there's tons of articles on the web where people mention his grabs. He is unexciting and quite ordinary. He always gets glossed over then "thrown to the wolves" and gets it done though. Britt is out and Wright is unsigned. Williams is probably going to be the guy early on since Nate Washington should receive the Ds attention. No one in FF will start him. You drafted players far more talented than Williams. There's no way you choose Williams over one of them in week 1 thru 4. However, he should get your attention and maybe steal up a bench spot for deeper leagues. He's an excellent wait and see candidate.

Britt has drama and finds a way to add more drama. I would not own him in dynasty. There is zero guarantee that he doesn't get into trouble or twist an ankle or something during his suspension. He's an odd-bird that really attracts drama. This is one big reason why Williams is always the easy option.
