Drew Brees has NFL record within reach (1 Viewer)

No one is talking about this. What do you think? The NFL record for passing yards in a season is 5084 by Dan Marino. Drew Brees is on pace for 5037 passing yards. He has 3463 yards through 11 games and needs to average 324.4 yards per game to set the record.

It's within the realm of possibility, but I doubt he gets very close to it. With both his main receivers hobbled, he's needed quite a bit of luck just to have the performances he's had. (Where would he be without the halftime Hail Mary completion?) He's got some games against good defenses left (Dallas, Carolina), and it's possible that New Orleans will have not much to play for after the Dallas game. Quite impressive in any case, but without being ahead of the pace at this point in the season, it's hard to see him actually beating the record. I really doubt he manages any more 500-yard games.

He doesn't need 500 yard games. He's close with a very manageable number of 325 ypg. As bad as the Saints defense plays of late, he will be chucking the ball a lot to stay in games. He's got a big play offense with burners like Colston, Henderson and Horn able to turn a 15 pass into a 50 yard TD.

He won't get 325 yards every game. Marino had over 400 in 4 games during his record-breaking year, and was held under 250 four times. So the question is, what will offset the 200-ish yard performances he's likely to get vs. Dallas and Carolina? Or if Reggie Bush takes two running plays to the house in the first quarter against San Francisco and New Orleans then doesn't need to pass as much? Brees is on pace for over 600 pass attempts; if he gets there he'll have a shot at Marino's record, but I wouldn't put money on it.
