Drew Henson.... (1 Viewer)

Per the big Tuna on his daily interview. "he will not be with the team in 2007", said Parcells.

Hopefully we'll get a subscription to Baseball America or somethng equal in value for him.

Henson might just go down in sports history as the biggest all around bust. TONS of talent in 2 sports, but he never got his head right.

Before Big Ben there were a lot of people in Pittsburgh wanting the Steelers to get Henson. Sometimes the best moves you make are the ones you don't make...

I heard the Giants have a crate of old French rifles. Never been fired and only been dropped once. Maybe they can get Henson and a late draft pick for them.

It is nothing short of a miracle that in 2003 the Cowboys made the playoffs with Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson and Drew Henson as their only QB's. :o

If the Cowboys know he won't be with the team in 2007, why is he on the team now. Seems like they would cut him and get someone else in who could possibly be on the team in 2007 - or would provide a better alternative in 2006.

As a Cowboy fan, this move REALLY bothers me...I guess there are just things behind the scenes that we as fans do not know, but if not, then this is a terrible call by Parcells IMHO. They never even gave Henson a shot, they played him in one half against the Bears and decided he couldnt play QB? Come on now.....They never even played him in the Pre-Season. I would love to see him catch on somewhere else and be a star

I'm a little surprised. If there is no room for him in Dallas, so be it. But to come out that way is a little odd. I would have expected they could get a 2nd day pick for the guy....

He played in NFL Europe this year, too. And they were not happy with his performance.

There are also plenty of ways to evaluate his progress behind the scenes, such as his study and practice habits, his attitude, etc. I have a feeling there's a lot more that has gone into this decision than any of us realize.

I'm not sure it was a matter of getting his "head right". It's not like the kid had a bad attitude or didn't try hard enough.

I agree, Colin. I'm surprised Tuna announced it like that as well.On some of the Cowboy boards, there's been speculation that New Orleans might have wanted him. Reportedly, Sean Payton really liked his workout when Dallas signed him and was one of his main supporters. And, Payton got to work with him for 3 years as OC of the Cowboys.I suppose those discussions fell through. And so Dallas will most likely release him now, taking a $3 million cap hit in the process. It is interesting that last week, Matt Baker was taking all of the 3rd string QB turns in Dallas' training camp. Henson took no reps in several practices. Its pretty clear that the writing was on the wall.Incidently, Dallas did trade LB Scott Shanle to New Orleans today for a late round draft pick.

Beto, it is a matter of getting his "head right". No one questioned his arm or his mobility. The guy had prototypical size and measurements. But Parcells constantly talked about his decision making, or lack thereof. He had trouble reading defenses and making quick decisions. Parcells talked about him being really nervous and tense and that Parcells was trying to get Henson to relax and let the game come to him. Henson was thinking too much.So yes, it does seem to be a matter of getting his "head right".

He couldn't decide whether to focus on baseball or football. His two years (?) away from football to play baseball cost him dearly, IMO. I think if he had stuck it out in football and entered the NFL right away, he may have succeeded. So in a way, it was a matter of getting his head straight.

If he gets released, it will be interesting to see what happens. I wouldn't mind the Lions to take a shot at him. He is a U of Michigan guy and he has talent. I will be waiting to see what happens.

The guy just doesn't have it, IMO. Lots of highly touted players end up being busts. He's never showed much of anything at the pro level (including NFLE).

He might get picked up, but I don't expect him to ever be anything more than a project. I believe he'll be out of football by '08.
