Driver's License question (1 Viewer)

I've been working to get to a point where I can get rid of my wallet completely - I'm basically down to needing to carry 2 items - my bank card (debit/ATM/check card) and my driver's license. I'm trying to eliminate the need for the DL for now. I live in Georgia and I only drive two vehicles 99% of the time (my car and my wife's van). So, a couple of questions:

1. Do you have to carry your driver's license on you when you are driving? Could I leave my license in my car and just not worry about it if I'm driving my wife's car?

2. Can I get a 2nd license to put in my wife's car?

3. Any electronic options for an iPhone?

I tried looking on the Georgia DDS site but couldn't find answers to any of these. I plan to call this week to find out but wondering if anybody had any insight/answers.

Also - I know someone will recommend an iPhone case that can carry those two cards and that's actually what I will end up doing if I can't figure out a better way.

You're adult, you should have some form of ID on you at all time when you're out. #### happens.
I live a boring life compared to most people - compared to you I'm Mr. Rogers.

Granted - I agree with you and wish they would provide options for my phone and/or device like a Garmin/Fitbit etc.

Doesn't matter as some states require you to have some sort of id on you at all times when out in public

Go to dmv tell them you lost your license.

They will issue a duplicate.

Boom 2 licenses
What happens if he tries to use the first license at an airport or something? Shows up as invalid? I really don't know, asking.
Had the same idea and your question was the same as mine. Not so much airport but what if I get pulled over with the "old" license.

Please to call DDS tomorrow and I'll attempt to get some answers.

Didn't think of the pulled over angle, does it show up lost, stolen or just invalid? I guess they could see your picture on file in their database and would understand a "hey lost it but found it" thing.

Not that I'm aware of.

You must give your full name, however if you have nothing to compare it to, who's to say your not lying? Definately a slippery slope. Especially in states like arizona & texas where they have an immigration problem.

So, which states require this?

SCOTUS has said you only have to identify yourself if there's probable cause you've committed a crime.

Green card? I'm from East LA.

Interesting discussion. I've always wondered what happens if you get pulled over, don't have your driver's license, but can recite its number. They usually take your license back to their car and look you up, so could they do that with just the number? Or, as the OP asks, do you have to physically have it on you?

1. Do you have to carry your driver's license on you when you are driving? Could I leave my license in my car and just not worry about it if I'm driving my wife's car?

2. Can I get a 2nd license to put in my wife's car?

3. Any electronic options for an iPhone?
Got my answers from the DDS lady

1. Yep, got to carry it at all times

2. No, you cannot. She did say I could get an identification card but when I asked if that would suffice if I was pulled over she said no, so I'm not really sure why she mentioned it

3. They aren't doing anything currently for an electronic version

Looks like I'm screwed and will have to carry it on me for the foreseeable future unless I want to take the chance of not getting pulled over.

Since you are still going to carry your bank card, what's the issue with also carrying your DL? You wearing yoga pants all day or something?

ETA: Phone case with card slot?
I don't want to carry the bank card either ideally. My bank doesn't support Apply pay yet and I haven't researched it to see how viable it would be anyway. I'd love to get rid of my keys too.

Next step--cut yourself off from society altogether?

Go the lost angle, get a duplicate. Put one in your car, one in the wifes. If you get pulled with the original, and the cop notices (theres a chance he/she wont), just say you found it so you put it in your glove box so you wouldnt lose it again. The worst that will happen is the cop will keep it since you are only supposed to have 1. You wont get a ticket or go to jail, if thats what youre worried about.
